Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Earlier today, I finished reading The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches, #1) by Anne Rice by Anne Rice. The Witching Hour is an extremely long novel, 1207 pages, but don't let that put you off reading as once you open the first page you soon find yourself completely absorbed in the chilling tale of the Mayfair Witches. This novel has a spellbinding, engrossing, well-written tale with complex and mysterious characters. There are plenty of compelling twists and turns in the plot to keep you interested and the suspense is drawn out to perfection. The novel is completely unpredictable, I found the ending to be quite a shock! My full review can be found here.

Now, I'm about to start The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving by Washington Irving and Frankenstein (Penguin Classics) by Mary Shelley by Mary Shelley.

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book ooh Ellie I'll have to check out The Witching Hour. I think the only Anne Rice book that I really loved was Memnoch the Devil. oh there was another one but I can't recall the name of it - but it was about a haunted house that's all I remember lol

message 570: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Earlier I finished reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley by Mary Shelley. This novel turned out to be nothing like what I was expecting. I was expecting a generic horror story about a monster but what I got was so much more complex, it's actually quite a philosophical story really. I was extremely surprised and impressed by the actual story itself. I really enjoyed this book and I'm happy I finally got around to reading this classic. My full review is here.

I'm planning to read Eleven on Top (Stephanie Plum, #11) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich next.

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book Oh Alice - we went to Hampton Court Palace this past weekend. I really hope you get to visit this place someday!! It's my favorite palace so far that I've visited (I like it even better than Versailles). It's so much fun, very interactive and they do reenactments of days in the life of Henry VIII. So the day we were there they were reenacting when Henry and the French Ambassador signed the treaty between England and France. Cateryn Parr was his wife and they were walking around the palace all day. You'd see them in a hallway or something and have to bow or kneel lol it was so fun!!

It's a huge palace but it actually feels "cozy" well for something so huge that is.

Like I said I really hope you get a chance to visit some day!!

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book Alice if you want some more info on the Palace check out this site - I think it should be available for you to view (it's a UK site but since it's a tourist thing it should be viewable outside the UK). And it has information about 4 other palaces on there too.

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading Eleven on Top (Stephanie Plum, #11) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich this morning. Stephanie's adventures still make me laugh after 11 novels. There are so many hilarious and witty scenes in this book. But I have to admit I was a bit annoyed by Stephanie in this book. I just wish she'd finally choose between Joe Morelli and Ranger! http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Now I'm reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton by Kate Morton.

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book Still reading A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin by George R.R. Martin am on page 453 so I think that's about half way through so hopefully I'll finish it soon - maybe even on the plane ride home since it's a long flight.

I'm also reading Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary (Fablehaven, #4) by Brandon Mull by Brandon Mull to the children. It's the 4th in a 5 book series that they are really enjoying.

It's a wonderful YA Fantasy series if anyone is into Fantasy. It's about a family who is the caretaker of a secret preserve for mythical creatures.

We met the author at my middle daughter's school a couple of years ago, he's a very nice man and he was really wonderful with the students. He has another series out called The Beyonders that my daughter says is really good. and she also loved his stand alone book, The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull , the Candy Shop War.
