Valerie I read it a long time ago for school. It didn't keep my attention. I finally saw the movie a few months ago, it didn't keep my attention either. Some people were really able to connect with the book. I didn't.

Sarika Fils-Aime Dally!!!!

message 17: by Tara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tara I read it a few years before it was assigned for school on my sister's recommendation. It was one of my all-time favorites for a long time. I also recommend the movie. It was released in 1983 so I suppose it's a bit dated by now, but it's still great story that translates well to film. If you liked The Outsiders, you might also like some of S.E. Hinton's other novels like Rumble Fish.

karlipagemaster I did in 6th and 7th grade. I fell in love with this book and I still love it. Johnny is my favorite character!

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I read it in 6th grade. The class was supposed to read it together but I read ahead and finished it in just a couple of days. Good book.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Many of the kids in my class didn't like to read, so while they were whining, I read the book and finished long before the rest of my class finished it.

Rachel Alice I actually read this on my own. My mom had been trying to persuade me to read it for months when I found it for $3. I kind of wish I had read it for school, it's much easier to write book reports on books I actually like.
