Sheila B. Nicole wrote: "There is only one Matthew, Joe Manganiello. He is everything that embodies Matthew Clairmont." I love Joe, but he seems too big to be Matthew and too warm! Vampires are cool and Joe is all heat - no amount of make-up could hide that. I also wonder if an actor already playing one supernatural character would want to play another?

Valerie Grendell Jennifer wrote: "I don't get the Richard thing either. Matthew is supposed to be breathtaking and foreboding! Remember, all creatures are scared to make him angry. Maybe my standards are too high, idk?"

I think "high" is in the eye of the beholder. I think you don't picture it because you don't know his work, or you are going by different set of standards set in the character description. To each their own. I'm #RA4MC all day. ;)

Jean Sheila makes a great point about Joe. Way too hot blooded and American for Matthew. The author's description pretty much lays a trail straight to Richard Armitage's door. And while we're at it Hugh would make a great Walter Raleigh since Walter and Matthew look like brothers. ;-)

Valerie Grendell Kshitija wrote: "I think Richard Armitage or maybe Hugh Jackman?"

Yes to both. In that order.

Brilliant idea. I think many of the other's ideas are based on American actors and they don't necessarily equate the old European appeal that RA has, just the good looking part.

Great video!

Removed Removed Richard Armitage would make an incredible vampire...but don't see him as Matthew. What about Henry Cavill? Sorry if someone has already posed that suggestion. I do think he'd be awesome in the role.

Jennifer Gilliland Thanks for the video. I can see where you are coming from. I'm sure whoever they choose will do a great job. I am more concerned about the script. Even the best actor cant save a movie with stinky writing.

message 660: by Jean (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jean The script is in the hands of David Auburn, a Tony award winner. The author has indicated she's pleased with his selection. DiNovi and Greenspan are the producers. Women who are storytellers

message 661: by Jen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jen Henry Cavill??

Can't wait to read who and when...

Hijinee Martinez Richard Armitage is a good one.....this is going to be hard for the director....i feel sorry for them to have to chose between such wonderful actors...

I hope the directors have chosen actors who really fit the parts and not based solely on a typical American box office draw.

message 667: by Erin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Erin The guy who played the new superman

message 668: by Jaclyn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jaclyn Elmore I still think Sam Witwer would be perfect for Matthew.

Manuela Miranda It's been 2 years since the discovery of witches came out and to this very day, I still think Michael Fassbender would be perfect or even Ben Barnes! Not entirely sure who would be perfect for Diana but I sure do hope they don't cast a Kristen Stewart wannabe... PLEASE Warner bros, be smart about this. :)

message 670: by Laura (new) - rated it 4 stars

Laura Someone tall, thin and lithe although I'd never object to Fassbender.

Jennifer Henry Cavill... He was in the Tudors and he is very handsome and a fantastic actor. Unfortunately in the lastst superman they did not use his awesome acting skills.

message 672: by Paul (new) - rated it 5 stars

Paul Thomas These are great suggestions. Michael Fassbender is a great choice, the best choice for the heavy lifting of the acting part, but he maybe would look too German for all the Frenchy Frenchness the character is supposed to be. This Gaspard Ulliel person's look is just right, although maybe way too young to have that much presence, menace, and maturity (we cant all be Barbra Streisand in Hello Dolly). Richard Armitage doesnt have the face, but that can be overcome (helloo Renee Zelweggers entire career).
Maybe not a popular choice, but I think crazy James Franco has the energy of someone who's been lingering about for centuries, that could be suddenly jolted back to life by the love of a compelling and powerful woman....

message 673: by Paul (new) - rated it 5 stars

Paul Thomas Hugh Jackman is perfect. but he's too little overexposed. you would just be seeing Hugh Jackman.
but the physicality is just what she described, and we know he can pull it off beautifully

Heather Patton Matthew Macfadyen

Melissa Rogers chavez Henry Cavill would be perfect imo! He has a British accent but also speaks French and is an amazing actor! Hopefully he's not too tied into the Superman franchise...

Tiffany Mautino Benedict Cumberbatch, through both books I never pictured anyone else.

Michelle I would definitely go with Richard Armitage. He has such a range that would make him ideal for this.

message 678: by Kristen (new) - added it

Kristen Stone If it was 20 years ago I would say Michael Nouri. I pictured him when he was younger when I read the book. I pictured Justin Bartha as Marcus.

message 679: by Lynn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lynn Josh Brolin

Martina Traykova Matt Bomer

message 681: by Jean (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jean Paul, I find it absolutely inexplicable that you are so totally against Richard Armitage as Matthew, to the point of disparagement, but you pronounce that Hugh Jackman is perfect. There is more than a passing resemblance between the two. #RA4MC

message 682: by Erin (new) - rated it 4 stars

Erin True but they do act very differently

message 683: by Paul (new) - rated it 5 stars

Paul Thomas yeah they do look alike, i was mistaken.... I always get Richard Armitage and Dominic Cooper swapped in my head. Richard is a great choice. but I wasnt disparaging Dominic, he's great.. just making a lil Zellweger jab ;)

message 684: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

I like your humor, Paul...glad to see another Armitage fan!

Kshitija Cindy wrote: "Alyssa wrote: "I was maybe thinking Patrick Dempsey?!?!"

I like Patrick Dempsey, but don't see him as Matthew...not European enough or something. Still like Richard Armitage."

I love Patrick Dempsey, but he looks too American! Love Richard Armitage for Matthew!

Kshitija Raven wrote: "Ellie wrote: "I agree Richard Armitage is the man for the job."

Absolutely :) !"

100%. I don't think I can watch the movie if it's not Richard Armitage!

Kfinneron I agree with someone a little older like Hugh Jackman, even Christian Bale or Jude Law. Can't wait for the movie. The second book was awesome too.

Didn't think of Jude Law. He would be good..

message 689: by Enge (new)

Enge Eddie Cibrian as Matthew and Rachel Bilson or Brandi Bucharest as Diana.

message 690: by Fik (new)

Fik Michael Fassbender or Henry Cavill i think could portray a good Matthew. The actor casted must be of a certain age to be able to portray all 3-4 movie sequels. So they can't possibly choose an exactly the same age actor as the book character. Movie logic guys. Plus they gotta appeal to the 16-30+ age target audience in order for the movie to be a success. What do you guys think?

Natalie Tom Hiddleston!

Removed Removed Joseph Fiennes, tho he might be a bit short in height.

message 693: by Erin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erin Benedict Cumberbatch. He's all I can picture reading the first book.

message 694: by Elena (last edited Jan 17, 2014 09:34AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Elena Henry Cavill or Armie Hammer

Margaret Foxe Fassbender! Hands down. No question. He is who I pictured when I read the books. Wouldn't mind Benedict Cumberbatch in the role, or Tom Hiddleston. Hiddleston rocks the dark hair, and he has also played a brooding, tortured vampire before. But he's got to be British (or European) with the appropriate amount of gravitas.

Leaf-in-wind Benedict Cumberbatch..?

message 697: by Margot (new) - rated it 5 stars

Margot For me it would have to be Aidan Turner ( Mitchell the vampire from Being Human)

message 698: by Alana (new) - rated it 3 stars

Alana I agree with Joseph Fiennes...I do think Fassbender could pull it off...if Clive Owen were a little younger...

message 699: by Monika (new)

Monika My favorites are Henry Cavill, Bradley Cooper

Jennifer Shelby I pictured Matthew as a broad-shouldered fellow, capable of a few brief emotional moments, but largely the warrior type. I'd like to see an unknown get the role, but I think Daniel Craig could pull it off.
