Who would you like to see play Matthew in the movie, if one were made?
I would like to see Cam Gigandet as Phillipe!
Jack Davenport: from BBC series "Coupling" would be the best.
Richard Armitage is the perfect choice. Look at his body of work, his physical presence, already has the accent and has played a Frenchman (Monet) beautifully. Put that darkly handsome face into the character and then read about 100 pages of the book. No other meets those demanding specifications.
OH MY GOODNESS!!! SAM WITWER DEFINITELY!!! for Matthew. There is no one that would change my mind. He's the only person I can picture being Matthew.

I agree with Richard Armitage who has that perfect evil sexy look but also can show a sweet side.Example in Robin Hood the BBC series he's the bad guy but you feel sorry for him at times. In North and South he's a bit of a "Mr. Darcy" from Pride and Prejudices (The Colin Firth verison of course). There is a whole website dedicated to encouraging Warner Brothers to cast Richard Armitage. Definitely Michael Fassbender: he has the look, the intensity, the acting chops, and he's the right age! I can absolutely imagine him as Matthew, especially the seething intensity he displayed when playing Magneto in the latest Xmen film- check him out!

David Giuntoli from Grimm. Hands down. Look at those eyes. Right age, build, coloring and capable of brooding.

A Discovery of Witches is a refreshing twist on the vampire/witch theme. I imagined the whole way through the read James Caviezel (Person of Interest) as Matthew Clairmont. His steady and controlled demeanor, combined with a haunting good looks, fits the moody Matthew. Caviezel is extremely versatile and could very easily take the character of Matthew from the cold brooding vampire to the extreme tempered and "hot blooded" creature that he is. Caviezel is Mathew!!
I'm still enthralled with Richard Armitage...just saying.

Haven't seen it but will look. Not only does he do strong and brooding, he has the looks of someone who has lived and seen the centuries go by.

Richard Armitage is a fabulous actor and very attractive. I loved him in "North and South". I am sure he would do an excellent job, but honestly, I think the role should go to a slightly younger actor.
