And as he uncovers one mystifying clue after another, he becomes convinced that the facts are not what they seem to be. With no help from the criminal authorities, and armed with just his relentless pursuit for the truth, he launches his own investigation only to discover that a dangerous mastermind is still at play, still lurking around to plot the ultimate finale. As Alec marches ahead, he is whirled into a series of chilling events. Gruesome murders, night-stalkers, FBI undercover operations, corporate fraud...

A true story, one the Establishment have tried hard to suppress.

The Key? is the literary equivalent of digesting the red pill: some will embrace the brutal truth, others will recoil in fervent denial.

It's pending verification for a giveaway. I've added a downloadable five-page excerpt.

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) Neat idea. Mine is The Not Exactly Scarlet Pimpernel, by C. P. Lesley, available as of June 2012 from Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and the iTunes Store. Historical fiction with a contemporary twist and a strong romance component.

Ninel Pennington, better known as Nina, has one goal in mind: to finish her Ph.D. dissertation on the French Revolution. But the professor she has chosen to supervise her work has too many students already. To win his acceptance, she must excel in a virtual-reality computer game based on her favorite novel, The Scarlet Pimpernel. When she lands the coveted role of Marguerite, the novel's heroine, Nina is overjoyed. Sure, Marguerite's a beautiful birdbrain, but Nina can ace this assignment in her sleep! Or so she thinks until she realizes that she's committed herself to spend two weeks as the estranged wife of her least-favorite fellow grad student, cast as the Scarlet Pimpernel himself.

The game also pits Nina against Marguerite, a coquettish socialite who wants only to get this meddlesome stranger out of her head. As the Pimpernel's adversary closes in, and Nina figures out that only an alliance with Marguerite's husband will ensure her survival, she becomes ever more desperate to fix Marguerite's life.

But Marguerite, it turns out, also has a few pointers for Nina. And before Nina fully grasps just how much trouble she's in, the Scarlet Pimpernel proves to be a good deal less estranged than she'd ever thought possible.

Mark Holtzen Hi,
My name is Mark Holtzen. The Pig War, Kindle version, will be available for free download on Amazon on July 14th and 15th (this Saturday and Sunday). When his parents send him to remote Mobray Island for a summer with his curmudgeonly grandfather, bookish Kell thinks his time is going to be a boring bust. But he and his boisterous sister Grace are quickly drawn into events from the island’s past—The Pig War of 1859. What was The Pig War? Did pigs actually fight? What if Kell and Grace are caught with the buried revolver they've uncovered? And why does their grandfather go fishing without his fishing gear? By summer’s end Kell learns that Mobray Island holds more adventure than he bargained for: shady ancestors, shadier neighbors, and even some discoveries about himself. www.markholtzen.com

My new crime thriller, Copacabana, is now available in Kindle format from Amazon UK: http://amzn.to/MMuSOq and Amazon US: http://amzn.to/Lyx8bM

It's a dark, brooding tale, described by a Top 500 reviewer as 'appealing to readers who like their crime and morality a little on the unconventional side'.

Here is a brief synopsis of the book:

Having retired from the crime world, Pete Murphy relocates from Liverpool to Rio de Janeiro. Here he throws himself into the wild and sordid nightlife of Copacabana in an effort to forget that brutal murder which forced him into exile.

This self-destructive routine is interrupted by the arrival of John Mullan, a young petty thief who has long idolized Pete, and is now on the run from associates back home. A situation further complicated by the £2000,000 of stolen money which John has brought with him.

As the repercussions of this theft become ever more clear, the scene is set for an explosive showdown.

Pete Murphy is about to meet the ghosts of his past head-on.

In Copacabana…

Ian Loome (lhthomson) | 14 comments Hi everyone,
I have (gulp) seven novels now on Kindle and they're all available for blogger review. Just drop me a PM by clicking on my name and sending me a message!

Here are the books and synopses:
Buried in Benidorm by L.H. Thomson
Buried in Benidorm
Ex-priest and newly minted agnostic Max Castillo ekes out a living as a private investigator from his houseboat in Benidorm, Spain. He's finally got a little free time ... until a big-shot turns up dead at a local golf course. Now, his former employer is calling in an old debt, and Max is neck-deep in gangsters, grifters and girls with grudges. A decades-old secret could hold the key to solving the case, but can Max figure it out before one of them leaves him ... Buried in Benidorm?

Vendetta in Valencia by L.H. Thomson
Vendetta in Valencia
When a beloved local candidate and national hero drops dead of a heart attack, his doctor can't believe it. Soon, the doc's old friend Max Castillo is on the case -- although Max isn't even sure there's a case to be on. But he's a long way from his beloved Benidorm in a bigger town, with big secrets. Can Max keep his head above seawater and save his friend's reputation? After all, someone has a Vendetta in Valencia ... and that can be murder.

Quinn Checks In by L.H. Thomson
Quinn Checks In
Warning: this novel contains strong language and violence.

Liam Quinn is back in his hometown Philly after three years in the pen for forgery. Now the ex-boxer, ex-art student has been given a chance to make amends by working as an insurance investigator, restoring a little of his family's pride and getting another chance at the woman of his dreams. But a gallery heist isn't what it seems, and pretty soon, Quinn is running out of people to trust. The biggest mobster in town, a sweetheart named "Vin The Shin," is calling him out; a steady string of lowlifes want his head, and the local police think he's hiding something. But hey, when trouble comes knocking? That's when Quinn Checks In!

The Process Server by L.H. Thomson
The Process Server
Bob is a Process Server, a lowly functionary. Worse, he's a "Smith," lowest on society's rung in 2253. Well, almost: the poor bastards still living on Earth have it worse than anyone, addicted to the fully immersive MultiNet and doomed to short, pointless lives working for the Big Six Corps. Now Bob's been given a job, to deliver a summons to a bureaucrat halfway across the Galaxy. His 251-year-old pilot Jayde Chen -- a war veteran trapped in the body of a 14-year-old -- is by his side as Bob dodges intergalactic gangsters, rogue AI, religious extremists and marauding corporate tycoons. Can Bob and Jayde free an enslaved race, uncover a murderer and save their ship?

The Antique Hunters by L.H. Thomson
The Antique Hunters
The Antique Hunters: a Romantic Comedy about people coming together...over things that are falling apart!

Burton Trimble has a problem. He's managed to keep his head down around his sociopathic boss and father-in-law, Howard. But now the old man is sending he and his wife, Delphinium, to the south of France on an antique hunting vacation that seems suspiciously like getting him out of the way.

While there they'll meet a psychotic genius chef, a heartbroken jailbird and a cast of characters you could only find in "La France Profonde," as they figure out what's really important to each of us.

Abigail Deane and the Demon's Gate by L.H. Thomson
Abigail Deane and the Demon's Gate

But Abigail has an air of magic about her, and there is great trouble afoot. Aided by two fellow social outcasts, can she fulfill her destiny, foil a knight's curse, and save our world from darkness?

Abigail Deane and the Demon's Curse is YA Modern Fantasy fiction. Join Abigail as she tries to fulfill the legacy of a crusading knight bound to a curse for eternity, while thwarting the schemes of the evil, Witch-hunting Council of Paderborn. In a story that stretches from ancient Africa and the Holy Land to modern day England, Abigail's beliefs, feelings, hopes and dreams will all be tested as she tries to prevent the demonic overthrow of Earth.

Jenelle Hey all, loving looking through all of these, L.H. I'm really interested in your "Abigail Deane" story (being from Chicago myself, and interested in all things fantasy, particularly if it's YA... but I don't read things on screen... do you have a print version available on amazon or anywhere?)

Would love to add my YA Fantasy novel to this group/shelf:

King's Warrior by Jenelle Leanne Schmidt

When the realm of Aom-igh is threatened by the darkness of an ancient enemy that was thought to be only legend, the peaceful nation of Aom-igh stands little chance against the impending storm. A king, whose reluctant rise to power has lead to years of peace and prosperity, is given no choice but to seek desperate measures to defend his people. He calls upon his feisty daughter to venture out into the kingdom to seek the aid of a lost warrior; one who had defended Aom-igh in the past. The princess, who relishes the thought of the adventure, is in for more than she could have imagined as she embarks on the quest with her maid and a young squire. Along the path of their voyage they meet strangers with mysterious secrets, enemies whose wickedness would weaken the knees of the stoutest soldiers and creatures of lore long thought not to exist. However, the marvel of the adventure only just begins when they meet the man they have been sent to find, a man with a past as mysterious and a future as clouded as any they have ever known in life or legend. The hope of their world rests on the steel he wears at his side…

Editorial Reviews
Review
"Planet Janitor does deliver an interstellar romp that hearkens to the best of Robert Heinlein or Philip José Farmer... A rollicking plot-driven adventure... The dangers are intimidating, the wonders evocative and the thread that ties it all together is always just a little more tangled than it seems." --The Canadian Science Fiction Review, December 13, 2010

"An intriguing and exciting cross between Aliens and 10,000 Years B.C. - Stevenson shows us a future filled with proof that we should listen to Stephen Hawking's warnings about alien life forms and what they want to do to us." --Gini Koch, author of `Touched by an Alien' & `Alien Tango', December 1, 2010

"Stevenson's book considers the possibility of an elite industry of environmental cleanup specialists who take on all sorts of bizarre environmental jobs... Clearly, this is a timely topic that hits home in the wake of the Gulf oil spill." --SF-Fandom, September 21, 2010
