Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) Hmm I think it's more the stimulation the feeling of being full gives, but that's the thing with fetishes, they can be, and are often, rather bizarre, but to each his own:)

Marlene (marlene1001) | 403 comments One of my best friends is the biggest bullying victim at school. It started in elementary school and goes on til now. I try to support him as good as I can, but one time he lost his temper. Let´s just say it didn´t went well and ended with hospital and police.
That finally woke some teachers up and they started discussing bullying in our school. Comment from one teacher: "Bullying at our school? Now way; I never saw such a thing. That doesn´t happen here."
Umh, okay. And why DOES it happen then? Most teacher don´t even see bullying, let alone do something about it.

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» It's true, and it's so sad! They're like "You can come talk to us if something is going on," but there are really very few teachers who would tell you more than, "I'm so sorry, that's awful. Try to just ignore them, be the better person."

To those teachers:
>.<

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» I am pressing the imaginary 'like' button for your comment.

Marlene (marlene1001) | 403 comments That´s partly the reason why I want to become a teacher: To do it better.
I just hope I can change something, at least one little bit. But I´ll keep trying.

I was bullied in elementry school by the kid who sat next to me in art class. I finally broke down and told my mom, who wrote a note to the teacher--all that happened was that his seat was moved. The art teacher apologized to me for "not hearing what he said" but that didn't help me at all.

I think that was when my general mistrust of people began.

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» I'm sorry, that should never happen to anyone! People can be so cruel and insensitive, it seems.

Let's keep it on topic.. But,

My friend's ex boyfriend was acting inappropriate with her, she told him to stop so she told the teacher. The teacher smiled and said, "It happens to everyone."

I saw a pic today of a thin girl with a tape measure around her waist and a comment about society killing us. She had a waist of around 24", and looked healthy. Now I feel kinda strange because that's how thin mine is naturally, in the same healthy way. You can't really blame something like that on society....

message 226: by [deleted user] (new)

amen to that

message 227: by Fiona (new)

Fiona That's the thing. What is healthy and normal for each individual is going to vary. Gosh, sorry but it would really suck if we all were mirror images of one another. I like variety! So long as we are healthy, it shouldn't matter. After all, how tall we are plays a part in this too. The exact same weight on say,two girls, whom vary in height, by say three inches,is not going to carry those pounds the same way. So,guess what,we might say one appears heavier than the other, when in reality,it is not so. Trying to fit into someone elses mold for what you should look like or what society says is "normal?" No.Scrap that. There are enough phonies out there.Just be healthy and be true to yourself and your self image will reflect the real you. Which, really is what anyone whom cares about you wants to see...the real you.

EXACTLY! All you have to be is healthy. That's even what my modeling teacher told me. Be healthy and nicely toned. That's it. Don't aim for certain measurements or anything. Everyone is different. Even as a model I'm not being pressured into anything. Why are everyone else? It makes no sense! Everyone is different. I'd hate looking like everyone else. But that's what so many people are trying to do. Look like everyone else.

I'm honestly starting to wonder why I bother to post in this topic, because I don't have any problems at all with this subject and people kinda just.... I dunno. Ignore my posts in a way. I have trouble understanding what people's problems are on this subject. I've said what I have to say and now... *sighs* I'm the odd one out in the group. Or at least just many of the topics.

Just keep posting!

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 581 comments Mod
Yeah, I get that. But in a group against discrimination it's kinda hard to make decent posts when(along with not being very good with words) you yourself aren't feeling insecure about appearance(anymore), and haven't had much in the way of discrimination other than religion(and occasionally school) based. I just... I dunno. I don't feel like I fit somehow. :( But I'm kinda in the dumps right now, so... I dunno....

You have no idea how many times I've heard that, but somehow I doubt that's what it is.
And sorry about the long posts. It all just comes spilling out. I've been told it sounds like a lecture sometimes, but not to stop because then I'd be containing myself. I already do enough of that anyway...
But my posts are no good! They're either too long, too short, don't have anything good to contribute, or are ignored(and one of the above). Then I keep feeling like nobody even thought about what I typed. My views are generally different. I'll say one thing then people will turn around and start on a rant about what I was just defending. I'm like the only person here against you all, somehow. And all I'm doing is pointing out the other sides to things and supplying another view. For a lot of these topics also, I just don't have the problems everyone else has so it's just like I'll try and make something decent, then ... Forgot where I was going with that. Oh, that's it. Then it's kinda like they're brushed aside because I don't seem to know or experience these things like everyone else. I just... *sighs* I dunno.... I just don't know....

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» But you offer a new point of view that I don't think really anyone else has. And I think that is the whole point of this group, is to understand people and issues from more than one side. Does that make sense?

message 235: by Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten, Congratulations! ~ Swag (new)

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 581 comments Mod
Yes. It does. That doesn't mean I think I'm doing a good job or that other people are listening to my views though.

message 236: by Ross (new)

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) A counter view is always useful in seeing the entire picture, so in that sense you are playing an essential role on these threads Lynx and I for one appreciate what you bring to the discussion,s as I'm sure others do as well:)

s•u•n•s•h•i•n•e «§KENZ§» I listen; I like to (try to) see every side of something, just because it helps me understand things better with less bias.

Lynx ~ 10/1 Never Forgotten | 581 comments Mod
I see. :/ Well, this has been bothering me for a few days now(which means it's really bothering me because my mind is fairly clutter-free and organized), but I'll try and ignore that. I just feel like I'm supplying all these views and people either brush it aside, don't listen, or assume I don't really know what I'm talking about and what they're going through because I don't have the same problems. It bugs me to no end.

message 239: by Ross (new)

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) I think, and I may be wrong, that you see a lack of response to your posts as a judgment against your views that you have taken the trouble to share with us. But it's likely not that, merely that they haven't thought about it as much as you have. I know I feel like that sometimes, but not just about your posts:) Other posts as well, particularly when they elaborate on something I can't really relate to, but I do try and adjust my POV so as to approach the other perspective:)

I'm listening. I may not reply to many posts. I don't really reply to ANYONE'S posts. But I do see them, and I do think about them. So just because no one replies, doesn't necessarily mean no one is listening, Lynx.
And I don't reply usually because I can't think of anything to say, because you've already said it all. I mean, I could say "you're right", or "yeah, I guess you could see it that way", but would that really mean anything if it was said all the time? Kinda like when I give people hugs (including Internet ones). I don't do it all the time, and, to me, that makes it more meaningful when I do.
So sometimes silence is the only response. Don't think no one listens, because they do. They listen, but they don't speak. I guess that's just what I'm good at. Listening. Thinking. Silence.

And you ARE doing a good job. Your opinions and your thoughts matter, and who's to say they're not good? No one. Who can say that they're wrong? No one. They're called yours for a reason. They might be someone else's as well, but they don't have to be, and they don't have to be wrong because of that. I want to hear what you think, what you feel, about everything on here. And that goes for everyone else too. I'm listening! I'm here!
Who's with me?

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) You are most welcome my lady:)
Just to put it out there, I'm supportive of any opinion that advocates either tolerance, assimilation, and learning to harmonize different sociocultural POVs. Conformity is overrated, and variety is the new black; it's cool to be you, leave the clones to the production line, no mould can hold you if you don't let it:D

@Woolfie: No, no. It's not that. Once again: There's a lot of times I've said something and nobody replied. Which does bother me, but not to this extent.
That's what I'm dealing with though. What you just described. People elaborate on topics and I can't really relate to them. So I try and understand, while showing my view. But since it's different and on such a touchy topic, it just doesn't seem to work... I dunno. It's bugging me.

@Kiyuto: I know that. But when nobody replies it leaves the topic empty and I'm stuck going, "Oh crap. Did I say something wrong?" Then someone else posts something and people flock over to it. I know people read it. I know they are probably thinking about it. But it's like a one sided conversation. I talk and talk and talk and nobody says anything.
I really would prefer it if someone at least said something. I don't feel like I cover everything, they can bring up other points or something. And I know for a fact that I don't cover everything or bring in all views. People turn around and start attacking the thing I just would give my views on. That doesn't bother me one bit. I just wish they'd do so in a way that it was more like replying and dissecting what I wrote. Things are different online in that ways that you really can have a one sided conversation and not know until later. This is supposed to be a conversation and I often feel like it's not. I prefer people pulling apart every sentence looking for flaws in my posts, heck, they can even cuss me out in the process. I don't care! But I prefer it to silence. I want the discussion and debate. But I'm not getting it....

Yeah, they're mine. So I can call them crap. Can't I? Not that my views are crap, but that my posts are because I'm not very good with words.

message 245: by Ross (last edited Feb 08, 2012 07:18PM) (new)

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) Hmm has it occurred to you that apart from a few consistent posters, there' not really much going on here in terms of debate. It's mostly people stating their points of view and others tending to agree without adding to the topic. There's nothing wrong with that, I mean it may just be that people here aren't the forthright 'let's talk about this ya'll' kind. I'm not criticizing anyone when I say that:)
So if you would like people to reply and discuss a point that you think is relevant and important you could either pose questions in your post or let one of the mods know, and we'll see how we can help out:)

Getting back to the topic area:p
How do we feel about the subject of size acceptance?
Is it encouraging obesity?
Does fat=unhealthy?

Yeah, I have noticed that. It's like themed chat. This is labeled under debate. If it's not going to be one it should be a venting corner/view showcase.
:/ I don't see how mods can help. Fact is people just don't seem to want to talk much about this other than sharing their views. I dunno. I'm just irritated and don't know what to do. At first I thought this group was awesome, now I'm sick of trying. A group can't run on just views/opinions and, "oh, you're right!" Heck, I probably have the most different views out of everyone in the group. I would think they'd be sparking at least something like they usually do. But it's not. It's almost like people are so worried about offending anyone or showing even the slightest bit of discrimination or negativity that we can't function as a proper group. There's nothing to push it forward and keep it going.

Kiyuto~Nyan ❤☪☮E✡☥☯✞❤ [Kony 2012] (IHaveDiedEveryDayWaitingForYou) | 564 comments Here's a different view for ya: I don't think Hitler was evil.

message 250: by Ross (last edited Feb 08, 2012 07:28PM) (new)

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) Well I suppose being open-minded doesn't lend itself to a good debate, and that seems to be the 'problem' right there. Now whether or not people are posting what they believe or are trying to look beyond their stereotypes or perceptions that they consider inappropriate it's hard to say. But if there isn't a debate thread, this would be a good argument to set one up.

It's not so different Kiyuto, I share that view, but if we want to discuss it, I suggest we do so in the 'bad people' thread, or the 'racism' one:)
