I know that feeling.

message 6413: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) I just finished Lamentation Lamentation (Matthew Shardlake, #6) by C.J. Sansom . I felt the plot got a bit bogged down and slightly repetitive in the middle, but I love the series and Shardlake is a great character.

Kimber (kimberlibri) | 785 comments Finished Dissolution, almost finished with Winter Siege and trying to decide what to read next. I might go for three '4 star' books in a row by reading my first Brother Cadfael, A Morbid Taste for Bones. Any other suggestions? I have most of the last few months reads on my kindle but just haven't gotten around to them yet.

The Brother Cadfael series is wonderful. I think you'll enjoy them. The author, who wrote the Cadfael series under the pseudonym Ellis Peters, also wrote a few books under her name, Edith Pargeter. A Bloody Field by Shrewsbury by Edith Pargeter A Bloody Field by Shrewsbury and The Brothers of Gwynedd (Brothers of Gwynedd #1-4) by Edith Pargeter The Brothers of Gwynedd are really great books if you haven't already read them. I also read To Dance with Kings by Rosalind Laker To Dance with Kings by Rosalind Laker last autumn, and I was really amazed at how intricate the story was. On the non-fiction spectrum, I really enjoyed The Affair of the Poisons Murder, Infanticide, and Satanism at the Court of Louis XIV by Anne Somerset The Affair of the Poisons by Anne Somerset. That is a really interesting book about a pretty wacky period of French history.

The Leftovers was one of those books that left me in a daze for like 2 days after finishing it! What a trip. Very good book!

Dawn (caveatlector) Why??

I have that one on my TBR, is it bad or just not fitting your mood??

message 6420: by Linda (new)

Linda (ladylawyer8650) | 1702 comments I just discovered Kate Quinn, but I want to leave all things Roman and get The Serpent and the Pearl: The Borgias, Book 1. That would be book one of the Borgia series, right? Is it a book to skip or read?

message 6421: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I've started a few more books because why not have 12 books on the go at the same time....

The Great Transformation The Beginning of Our Religious Traditions by Karen Armstrong The Great Transformation: The Beginning of Our Religious Traditions which is looking pretty interesting from a cultural and geographical point of view as well as the religious one.

Runaway by Alice Munro Runaway, I expect this to be good as the author is the queen of short stories.

I also started and finished The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding (Hercule Poirot, #33) by Agatha Christie The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding

It gets good ratings Linda (and yes it's the first one). I haven't actually read anything by Kate Quinn yet, so I can't say for sure.

Gretchen (eab2012) Linda- Yes! Read it but you will want the second one readily available.

I have to read another of her books, Too Much Happiness by Alice Munro , for a book club meeting. I'm not much of a short stories fan which is why I've never read Alice Munro books, but I hope I like it. Honestly, I don't know how to find the time, there are so many books that I'd like to read at once.

message 6425: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) I've read The Love of a Good Woman by Alice Munro The Love of a Good Woman and thought it was great. But I'm a big fan of short stories. I hope you like her, she is a really good writer.

You can always do like me and just start all the books at the same time!

Well I'm already doing that, willy-nilly, albeit on a smaller scale. So far, so good :)

I would suggest getting Dark Fire to keep your roll going. I thought it was much better than Dissolution

Histolicious Histolicious Finished The Iron King (The Accursed Kings, #1) by Maurice Druon what a superb read!
Thank you so much for recommending this one to me.

I continue the Series with The Strangled Queen (The Accursed Kings, #2) by Maurice Druon

And i started with Die Zeichen der Furcht Aus den dunklen Anfängen von Sherlock Holmes by David Pirie it´s the second instalment of David Piries Arthur Conan Doyle & Dr. Joseph Bell Series.

I really liked it - he has also written two others on the Great Patriotic War, one on the battle of Kursk

Last Citadel by David L. Robbins

and one on the fall of Berlin

The End of War by David L. Robbins

Of the three I probably liked Citadel the best

Not Paul Doherty's best series.

Margaret (margyw) | 3341 comments My personal favourite is the Brother Athelstan series. Set mostly in London at the time of the regency of John of Gaunt.

The main characters and the supporting ones are all bursting with personality.
