Loved A Tale For the Time Being! I hope you like it too -- it made for a great discussion at my book group.Deepak wrote: "Half way into this interesting novel by Ruth OZeki.
Currently reading The White TigerThe White Tiger and just finished Watching the Dark by Peter Robinson, a good mystery. Watching The Dark
Just finished reading The Fault In Our Stars couple of days ago.
Currently, I'm reading After Dark by Haruki Murakami
Im currently reading The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick. i highly recommend this book! if you loved Silver Lining Playbook then you will love this more.
Currently reading Real World by Natsuo Kirino and not liking it as much as Out. Anybody has any other Japanese authors to recommend? esp thriller writers.
I just finished reading The Longest Distance by David Scott. I highly recommend this book as it really lifted my heart to a new appreciation. Really well done! He is also a local author here in Singapore.
I am currently reading Shanghai Diary by Ursula Bacon.
Who's chasing after Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series? I am also on the look out for the next book in Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series. Have read all books in those two series and I am sure you would love them if you are keen on reading some Paranormal romances :P
Currently reading The Circleby Dave Eggers. Not really liking it that much though...Next on my list is The Way We Live Now by Anthony Trollope.

It got me hooked to other series such as those written by Shelly Laurenston and Christine Feehan's Dark series.
Merry Xmas everyone! This group is so quiet... I just started on The Girl You Left Behind. Such good weather to snuggle in bed with a book recently. :)
I just finished "Why Nations Fail". Very good read. Simple to read, but there's some points you could get confused if you don't understand economics. If you read this book with "How Asia Works" hand to hand, it kinda gave you a worldview of today's modern economy and politics.
I heard that Capital in the 21st Century is a good read, but will not get that so soon.
Hwee wrote: "Hello! I'm currently reading Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. Anyone read his stuff?"Yes! Love Brandon Sanderson. His YA series is out with a sequel.
And this is my latest read:
I tried reading the lies of locke lamora but i cant get into it...yes! i will have to re-read steelheart before i borrow firefight from the library :)
I just saw The Imitation Game and am now about 35% through Alan Turing: The Enigma. Parts of it get quite dry and academic (it is supposed to be a definitive work after all) so it remains to be seen if I'll finish it.

I haven't started Words of Radiance! But I recently read Alloy of Law. Do you think I need to go reread Way of Kings before starting WoR? #slowauthorproblems

Finished reading The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima. Moving on to Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo.
Sorry I missed your comment earlier!Hmm it's a huge committment... I would suggest just google the spoilers :B
Charlotte wrote: "Finished reading The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima. Moving on to Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo."OMG Siege and Storm! The Grisha trilogy is awesome! I'm on Ruin and Rising now, and am trying to read as slowly as humanly possible so it doesn't end so soon!

I remember The Way of Kings quite clearly, so I didn't have to read it. I think we need to wait for all books to be out then marathon them. *hint: George Martin*
Oh, and my latest read is this:

I'm about halfway through and still enjoying it. Hope it lasts (lol). Waiting for my pre-order Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and the Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black to arrive.

I have yet to start on a Brandon Sanderson book yet. SteelHeart is sitting on my shelf collecting dust due to the mixed reviews I have heard. Perhaps I should start from the Mistborn trilogy first?

I think it's because it felt like Sanderson dumb down a lot for a younger reading audience. His books for adults are beyond awesome.

Agree so much. I cant even finish firefight because i really dont like the writing style and 'simplified' characters. His Cosmere books are so good on the other hand.
Huge fan of Brandon Sanderson here even though I only discovered him mid-2013 via the Mistborn series! Just joined this group today and was hoping to find fellow Sanderson fans in Singapore. I finished reading The Way of Kings in Jan 2014 and read Words of Radiance very soon after its release. In between, I've reread The Way of Kings just because it is just too good. The best way of rereading The Way of Kings is to do it together with Tor.com's weekly reread of the book. You will notice things that you might have missed before. Having said that, you might want to give the comments section a miss though, to avoid spoilers, especially in the later chapter rereads which were only completed after WoR was released.
I read Sixth of the Dusk on Sunday. It's really good for the world- and character-building it contains in just over 90 (e-reader) pages.
Just started on Gardens of the Moon as I've read a lot of praise for Steven Eriksson as well, albeit in the grimdark vein.
Charlotte wrote: "Finished Siege and Storm and moving straight to Ruin and Rising!"I finished that book a few days ago! Was abit sad because I actually liked the Darkling :(
Reading All the Light we Cannot See by Anthony Doerr now. Yeah I shipped the Darkling and Alina so badly. Damn that ending :(
I just finished The Death of Yugoslavia
. It's detailed and chronicles Yugoslavia's slide into war, where eventually 7 nations would be carved out in blood. Well-written, and it gave me a good overall picture of the war.
kickbutt wrote: "Reading
now. Only 5 chapters in. Weird that I feel like I can relate to the male protagonist."Finished this awhile ago! Thought it was pretty good and interestingly insightful. Nothing like I'd expected it to be!
Here's a shameless plug, guys. I've been taking pictures of Singaporeans reading in public spaces since October 2014 under the hashtag #readersofsingapore on Instagram. I try my best to include the names of the books, so it's a fun place to go if you're curious as to what other Singaporeans are reading. If you guys want to join in the fun by spotting readers in public, feel free to use the same hashtag. I already have a few people regularly posting with the same hashtag, but more the merrier, yes? :)
myzombiedream wrote: "Reading The Grace of Kings now. Heard loads of good reviews for this book."I tried reading it, couldn't get into his narrative style, or the characters. Unfortunate as I too heard a lot of great things about it. Hopefully you enjoy it a lot more than I did!
Just started on the unabridged 1300-page monster Count of Monte Cristo. Will easily take up a couple of months for me :-)
Read recently two coffee table books pertinent to Singapore that I would recommend:i)
. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...ii)Through Lens Of Lee Kip Lin. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Enjoy!
The Voyage of Lucy P. SimmonsI have just read The Voyage of Lucy P. Simmons by Barbara Mariconda. This book is just too magical. Amazing. I just love it!
