I haven't read Unwind yet, but from the synopsis, I think The Darkest Minds might be similar. At any rate, it was a really good book.

Kate (kateroonie) | 41 comments I'm looking for a contemporary novel- either lighthearted and funny like Life in Outer Space by Melissa Keil and six impossible things by Fiona Wood or something similar to the Fault in our Stars by John Green
Thanks :)

Maybe something like Stoner & Spaz

message 104: by Imasha (new)

Imasha Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck is a fantasy romantic-adventure with a bit of action. It's my all-time favorite book. It's amazing:)

Flash Burnout is funny and serious both. It's a great book.

message 106: by Eliza (new)

Eliza Tilton Wither is another good dystopian.

message 107: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 66 comments I'm looking for something similar to Divergent or in the dystopian genre.

Theo | 116 comments Stormy wrote: "I'm looking for something similar to Divergent or in the dystopian genre."

Not sure what you have already read, but you might be interested in the Chaos Walking Trilogy, which starts with The Knife of Never Letting Go. I also enjoyed Ship Breaker.

message 109: by Kate (new)

Kate (kateroonie) | 41 comments Maybe Uglies? I really enjoyed it for dystopian fiction

message 110: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 66 comments Thanks! Dystopian wise I have read aside from Divergent: Hunger Games, Delirium, the selection, the matched trilogy, and am about to start legend.

I will definitely try those two series out though!

message 111: by Maysie (new)

Maysie | 1 comments An amazing book to read is "cross my heart hope to live" by carmen Reid !! Hardly anyone has heard of it so I'm trying my best to get it more popular! it truly is an amazing book set in the Second World War ... it's the story of a fifteen year old girl who lives in Brussels and when the nazis take over she can't stand it... I don't want to ruin it but PLEASEEE read it it's amazing :) it has adventure , tragedy, suspense and romance :D read read READDD

message 112: by Stormy (new)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 66 comments That actually sounds pretty interesting! Even though WW2 period books are incredibly depressing, at the same time they are also very interesting. I'm a history buff so that might just be right down my alley.

message 113: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne | 4 comments I would recommend the Book: The Broken Gift

"This is certainly an eye-opener of a book. For anyone who might be concerned, how can attempting to answer some of the major questions of the Bible be considered anti-Christian? This will give the reader quite a mental workout, and it is very much recommended. "

message 114: by Trish (new)

Trish Carter | 12 comments The latest series I read that I just could not put down was Pure. It's pretty dark but original. It sucked me in and took me there. And it's so convincing! You could almost believe that this is the future. Definitely worth the read.

message 115: by Trish (new)

Trish Carter | 12 comments So I hate to double post but I don't see another board to ask this. I keep seeing Uglies pop up in peoples lists of must read books. I tried it once and got maybe a quarter of the way through it before I just couldn't take it anymore. Does it get better or have some redeeming quality?

message 116: by Imasha (new)

Imasha Tiger's Curse by Colleen Houck.

The best series ever written.
Beautiful Passionate Romance
Heart-pounding adventure
Dangerous battles
A cliffhanger that'll make u want to die.

message 117: by Kate (new)

Kate (kateroonie) | 41 comments Trish- in relation to your uglies comment, it does get better and worse at the same time in my opinion. I read the whole series and enjoyed it, though some of the plot twists I did NOT agree with, but if you're looking for a book to read that is interesting and dystopian, uglies is a good option
Hope that helps :)

message 118: by Trish (new)

Trish Carter | 12 comments Much appreciated! It's one that I'm sure I'll end up reading eventually because it keeps popping back up but there are so many mixed reviews. I'm reading Chaos Walking series now and thoroughly enjoying it!

message 119: by Julia (new)

Julia | 432 comments I'm looking for suggestions. I've read too much lately about war, abuse, bleakness, sadness, dystopias, death, mental illness, PTSD.

For instance: Smoke, A Fort of Nine Towers: An Afghan Family Story, Boy21, Shanghai Girls, The Laramie Project. Each is very, very good, but together it's too much.

Any recommendations for books about puppies and kittens-- where they don't die?

I saw you had An Abundance of Katherines and The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks marked as to-read. I thought both were funny and (mostly) light-hearted. I also really enjoyed Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging for a humorous diversion.

message 121: by Kate (new)

Kate (kateroonie) | 41 comments I second "An Abundance of Katherine's"- its one of my favorite books and no-one dies :)

message 122: by Julia (new)

Julia | 432 comments I'm pretty sure I've read An Abundance of Katherines, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks and Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging. If I haven't, it'll be new and fun to me. If I have, it won't be new, but it'll still be fun. Thanks for the suggestions!

message 123: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Hey guys :3 Looking for a steampunk / Victorian steampunk book. Standalone or series.

I've already read The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare :)

message 124: by Olivia (new)

The Golden Compass has some steampunk elements.

Soulless is a fun supernatural take on steampunk.

message 126: by Julia (last edited Nov 22, 2013 07:19AM) (new)

Julia | 432 comments It's not Victorian, it's forty or fifty years later, but have you read The Diviners by Libba Bray The Diviners (The Diviners, #1) by Libba Bray ? It has great characters, steampunk elements, is also very good as historical fiction and hello, it's this month's YA read.

Hi Everyone! My name is Kiera and I work for Coliloquy. We have an insanely creative author Heidi Kling who publishes a trilogy about Witches and Warlocks--and we need Read/Reviewers!

You'll get the exclusive third installment early, as well as the first two books for free (all books are published serially and are very short)

Here's the excerpt: "A contemporary young adult series about a modern day witch who must betray everything she knows to save her magic and her forbidden love." The books let you follow the lead witch and the lead warlock's perspectives as they fight against The Council members, witch and warlock history, and their falling in love.

message 130: by Julia (new)

Luck in the Shadows

Swordspoint

Magic's Pawn

The Porcelain Dove

message 135: by Lili (new)

Lili (ceclor97) I am currently on the lookout for cool books about demons -- or, more appropriately, half-demons since fallen angels and Nephil have been done to death! Any recommendations?

Ashlee Lili wrote: "I am currently on the lookout for cool books about demons -- or, more appropriately, half-demons since fallen angels and Nephil have been done to death! Any recommendations?"

Have you read White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout ? It's classic Armentrout - enjoyable page-turner/guilty pleasure type book.

Also, I haven't read Demons at Deadnight (Divinicus Nex Chronicles, #1) by A&E Kirk , Forsaken (The Demon Trappers, #1) by Jana Oliver
or Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1) by Sarah Fine but they're all on my to-read list and are supposed to be really good.

Also, I know you're over angels but if you haven't read Shadows (The Rephaim, #1) by Paula Weston I would definitely recommend it - it's a very unique take on the whole fallen thing and there's a lot of demon stuff in it too (and it's Aussie so I'm kind of proud of it lol)
