Thanks for explaining it to me. I will be happy to help with re-picks as well. Hopefully I won't need it for myself (fingers crossed)!

MountainKat | 31597 comments Reetuparna, here are my picks for you! I hope you find something you like!

From Your TBR/New to You
1. The Biggest Loser - Passion Unleashed by Larissa Ione. This is the second longest book on your TBR and one I loved! This series is excellent and you gave 5 stars to the first to books, do yourself a favor and read this one too!

2. Modern Family - I just recently discovered the Kowalski Family and I fell in love! Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey is the first book in the series and I thought it was wonderful!

3. Channel Surfer - Do Over by Mari Carr, an oh so sweet and steamy story of a married couple rediscovering their love. ~sigh~

From My Read Shelf
4. Law and Order - I was surprised to see that you haven't discovered Cat and Bones yet! The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorites and it all begins with Halfway to the Grave. This is a series I have listened to and love in audio, I can't imagine really reading them now. I have to warn you though, there is quite a cliffhanger at the end of the first book, I went straight into the second just to find out what happened!

5. Dancing with the Stars - I didn't notice any Romantic Suspense on your shelf and thought I would suggest an excellent book here, it is the beginning of a really good series, but I think the first book is my favorite so far. The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks introduces us to the Kelly brothers - I want one for my very own!

6. That's So Raven - I am not a big reader of YA, but I did read and enjoy Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, maybe you will too.

Buddy Reads
7. The Amazing Race - In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks. I am reading this for another discussion the middle of the month and I know that a couple of others are doing a buddy read of this one beginning on the 7th. I was planning on joining them, it could be a fun group read! And who wouldn't want to go to Scotland and find themselves a Highlander!?

8. My Favorite Channel is... - I hate to say how easy this is for me - any channel that shows sports! And since I have read all of these books, it's not really a buddy read opportunity, although I honestly wouldn't mind a reread (Or re-listen in my case since I believe these books are best in audio!) if I can fit it in. I am going to suggest the Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. This is a series based on a fictitious Chicago football team and football is my favorite sport! In fact I am trying to get my picks up before the games start today! =) You have read a couple of them, but not the first, the first book is It Had to Be You. I thought it was funny and sweet, I love SEP and her characters! If you are more interested in car racing, this is another favorite book/series of mine - Flat-Out Sexy is the first in the Fast Track series by Erin McCarthy and it is my favorite! The way the hero falls for the heroine just makes me melt!

How about we aim for mid-month, around the 15th? That will give me time to stick to my promise to myself to finish a few already started series before I start a new one. We can pick a more precise date when we get closer.

Thank you for the suggestions! Sorry I didn't get back for a couple days... lots going on this Halloween weekend! I barely got on to make my own recommendations yesterday.

Anyways! I love all the books you gave me, such great diversity which I really appreciate! I have no idea what I'm going to read first, but I'm going to try to fit in as many as I can, (it's the busy time of the semester so it might not be much), I picked up Hounded today for a dollar since I saw it and I already have several of the others you recommended. I'll look through those first and see if I can find the others around! :) Thanks!

message 365: by Melanie (Moviemavengal) (last edited Oct 30, 2011 01:37PM) (new)

Melanie (Moviemavengal) (moviemavengal) | 31 comments JoJo,

I hope you find something that you would like to read from this list.

From their TBR/new to them
1. The Biggest Loser - Tell Me No Lies by Elizabeth Lowell was on your list with a whopping 576 pages. Also on your TBR list, and a little more svelte at 432 pages is Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. I could have easily picked that for Modern Family, too, as it's a favorite of mine.
2. Modern Family - Can't Stand The Heat by Louisa Edwards is a fun contemporary about a chef and a food critic forced to pay penance by working in his restaurant. The food critic heroine has a gay brother, too. If you want to get really out of your usual, False Colors by Alex Beecroft is not a contemporary, but a historical m/m romance which I absolutely loved.
3. Channel Surfer - From your TBR, I found this short story collection: Sugarplums and Scandal: All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth / Lords of Misrule / Ghost of Christmas Passed / Partners in Crime / Holly Go Lightly / Very Vampy Christmas or you could read a short novella by Courtney Milan, an author not on your TBR. Unlocked is on Kindle for $0.99 and it is a wonderful short book about a wallflower spinster who is horrified when the man who tormented her and ruined her debut season comes back to England. It is a grovel fest as he tries to make it up to her. Highly recommended.

From your read
4. Law and Order (in all its iterations) - Where to begin with recommending series?! I could go on and on. In looking through your TBR, I see you are a big fan of mysteries and paranormals. For a great mystery series, and one that's already on your TBR, try A is for Alibi. Two great paranormal series you might like to try - Bitten is the first in Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. It's about a werewolf pack and the heroine is very pissed that the hero bit her! The other books in the series are about witches, demons, etc. Darkfever is the first in Karen Marie Moning's series about the fae. Don't expect a true HEA as the author taunts us with the relationship with Barron throughout the books.
5. Dancing with the Stars - - False Colors, the m/m historical mentioned above, would be different for you. Also, I see you like some lighter mysteries, but haven't read anything by Alexander McCall Smith. The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is the first of his series set in Botswana. Precious Ramotswe is a lady of "traditional build", sort of Miss Marple in Africa.
6. That's So Raven - White Cat by Holly Black is about a young man in boarding school. He's from a family of curse workers -- sort of mobsters who can cast spells on people, including wiping their memories. Great book with a unique set up.
7. The Amazing Race - Italy! I just finished Your Scandalous Ways by Loretta Chase and it's set in Venice. I saw you have some read Loretta Chase, and have more of hers on your TBR, so I think you might really enjoy this one. The heroine is a courtesan, and the hero a spy. Very fun, and kind of a different book for her.
8. My Favorite Channel is... - HBO. I would highly recommend A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin. It's a fantasy book -- think Lord of the Rings, except with sex, incest and a wonderfully sarcastic dwarf prince character. It's a doorstop of a book, so if you dive into this one, count it for your Biggest Loser read, too! Also, True Blood is loosely based on Charlaine Harris's series, and Dead Until Dark is the first.

Le me know if you need any new picks. Enjoy!

Tell Me No Lies by Elizabeth Lowell Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie Can't Stand The Heat (Recipe for Love, #1) by Louisa Edwards False Colors by Alex Beecroft Sugarplums and Scandal All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth / Lords of Misrule / Ghost of Christmas Passed / Partners in Crime / Holly Go Lightly / Very Vampy Christmas (Love at Stake, #2.5) by Lori Avocato Unlocked (Turner, #1.5) by Courtney Milan A is for Alibi (Kinsey Millhone, #1) by Sue Grafton Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris Your Scandalous Ways (Fallen Women #1) by Loretta Chase The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, #1) by Alexander McCall Smith

Tiffanny PhotoJim! Here are you picks. I hope that you find something from the list that you would like to read. If not, just let me know =)

1. Biggest Loser:
Blood and Gold
The MacKade Brothers: Rafe and Jared
The MacKade Brothers: Devin and Shane *I couldn't choose between The MacKade Brothers. I loved Devin's story the most, and then Rafe's. Overall, though I really liked these two books.

2. Modern Family:
Rough, Raw, and Ready

3. Channel Surfer:
The Guy Next Door
Night Play

4. Law and Order:
This first group of books by Lora Leigh are the Elite Ops Series.
Maverick, Black Jack, Renegade, Heat Seeker, Wild Card, Live Wire

The second set is by Sydney Croft. I really like this series, its paranormal, however it's not your typical werewolf, vampire, demon stuff.
Riding the Storm, Unleashing the Storm, Seduced by the Storm, Taming the Fire, Tempting the Fire, Taken by Fire

5. Dancing with the Stars:
The Regent's Knight

6. That's So Raven:
Delirium * I picked this one because it has a similar dystopian feel that The Hunger Games had.

7. The Amazing Race:
The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf * I choose this one because I read the one before it, and it was surprisingly really really funny. I'm looking forward to reading this one. Oh, and it takes place in Alaska, which I know is not another country, but it would still be really exciting to visit.

Every Last Kiss * This one takes place in Rome

8. My Favorite Channel:

This one was tough because I don't really have a favorite channel or anything. The book I chose is part of the Grimm Series by Shiloh walker. She takes different fairy tales and gives their origins a different spin that's really interesting.

No Prince Charming
Candy Houses

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Hi Tiffany!! Finally, I'm here so let's get this party started...

From Your TBR:
1. The Biggest Loser ~ The Help, Loved, Loved, Loved this book! Starcrossed This one looked really good and had very good reviews.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett Starcrossed (Starcrossed, #1) by Josephine Angelini
2. Modern Family ~ If you'd like a contemporary go with My One and Only, I really enjoy Kristan Higgins writing, it's funny and sweet at the same time. If you'd like alternate lifestyles try Faith & Fidelity, a great m/m book or jump into the bdsm lifestyle with Wicked Ties.
My One and Only by Kristan Higgins Faith & Fidelity (Faith, Love, & Devotion, #1) by Tere Michaels Wicked Ties (Wicked Lovers, #1) by Shayla Black
3. Channel Surfer ~ Supernatural, Larisa Ione, G.A. Aiken, just to name a few of the great authors collaborating on this anthology. If you want something super short try the prequel to Edge of Sight, Taken to the Edge only had 23 pages. But if that's too few to satisfy go with Master of the Mountain.
Supernatural by Larissa Ione Taken to the Edge (The Guardian Angelinos, #0.5) by Roxanne St. Claire Master of the Mountain (Mountain Masters #1) by Cherise Sinclair

From My Reads
4. Law and Order ~ A series that sticks to the Law and Order them and is very long running starts with Naked in Death. If that's not your thing Midnight Man is more along the lines of Erotic Suspense, very hot! Or go for a popular favorite, Darkfever
Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb Midnight Man (Midnight, #1) by Lisa Marie Rice Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning
5. Dancing With the Stars ~ You're like me, you have a very ecclectic taste in books, so I'm not sure how 'out of your comfort zone' these books will be. Let's start with a historical since I don't see too many of those on your list. Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake is a good place to start. Comfort Food is probably out of everyones comfort zone, but it's a truly profound read and well worth it. I just finished Fifty Shades of Grey and fell in love with two flawed but very intriguing characters.
Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers #1) by Sarah MacLean Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James
6. That's so Raven ~ You have much more experience with YA than I do, but here are two you haven't read that are currently on my TBR: Perfect Chemistry and Poison Study
Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

Buddy Reads
7. The Amazing Race ~ I would love to visit Prague someday so if you're interested you can read Daughter of Smoke and Bone with me this month.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor
8. My Favorite Channel is... I don't really have one because I'm constantly flipping through them. But let's just say it's Animal Planet and we can read a a sexy shifter story, Bear Necessities.
Bear Necessities (Halle Shifters, #1) by Dana Marie Bell

Obviously I had a hard time making decisions so I hope you find something you like.

Happy Reading!!

Thank you Tiffanny! I have picks! I have picks!

Let's see...

I have a thing about reading books in order so I might make a couple of minor adjustments.

Lots of good choices here.
I have all the LL Elite Ops books sitting here waiting to be read. Just never got around to it.
I have the MacKade books sitting here.
I'd like to read the next Rough Riders book.
I've heard really good things about the first Naked Werewolf books but would be starting with the first.
The Grimm Circle series looks good.
The ACRO series looks good too.

So many good choices!

Which one to pick? It will come down to what all I can find and what hits my fancy when I pick them up. I can guarantee that I'll be reading The Guy Next Door as my wife tells me that I really need to read the Donovan Bros short story before I read the third book of the Donovan Bros trilogy. Since I bought that yesterday and will most likely be reading it this week, I'll probably start that this week. After that, I'll see but I'll read at least one more.

Cathy Galloway | 700 comments Mandy, Sorry this took me so long...

Picks for Mandy in November

From their TBR/new to them

1. The Biggest Loser - recommend a long book from their TBR Is 360 pages long? That’s the longest book in your TBR that I’ve read and can recommend. Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas and a close second on length was The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt. I loved them both, but the second one more.

2. Modern Family - recommend a contemporary book Wolf at the Door by Christine Warren These books are quick funny reads! Really enjoyed them!

3. Channel Surfer - recommend an anthology, a book of short stories, or a short book of their TBR (for those of us with really short attention spans) Wild & Steamy by Meljean Brook et al. I haven’t read this, but added it to my TBR since it has authors I’ve read and enjoyed.

From your read
4. Law and Order (in all its iterations) - in honor of one of the longest running series on TV, recommend a new to them series that you have read and enjoyed The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig. These are similar to the books you’re read by Tasha Alexander, but I thought they were even better.

5. Dancing with the Stars - recommend a book that is out of your partners comfort zone Long Hard Rideby Lorelei James. This one contains a lot of sex, some of it beyond mainstream, so it may be outside your comfort range.

6. That's So Raven - recommend a YA or a book where a child/ren play a significant role First Truth by Dawn Cook. This is the first in a series of four, wonderful fantasy story!

Buddy Reads
7. The Amazing Race - recommend a book in a country you would love to visit in the future. I would love to visit Scotland! In Bed with a Highlander

8. My Favorite Channel is... - recommend a book that relates in some way to your favorite TV channel - for example, if you like the Speed network, recommend a book with a car racer; or LifetimeTV - a women's lit/chick lit. For those of you who don't watch TV much now, recommend a book based on a TV channel or show that you used to watch. I don’t watch any TV anymore but the last series I did watch was True Blood. Therefore, I’m recommending a book with vampires in it – Heartless I see you’ve read the others so time to get the series up-to-date. If you want to do it as a buddy read, I need to wait until later in the month, because I need to read Blameless first.

Delving into your bookshelves, I can see we almost have the same pattern, very eclectic book choices. Anyway, I'll see what I can do to make November a good PIFM challenge for you. :)

1. The Biggest Loser: The longest book in your TBR is Meyer's The Host. Unfortunately, I haven't read it, but it has good reviews, so maybe it will be worth a chance. On the other hand, Feehan'sMurder Game is near the top also. I think it's about time you continue with the Ghostwalkers series with hot, sexy Kadan (one of my fave GW).

2. Modern Family:
For the contemporary choice, Crusie's
Welcome to Temptation is my rec. Funny, witty and filled with eccentric characters. For an alternate lifestyle, I recommend a novella called Kept, exploring the idea of a sugar daddy relationship and a little 'spanking' action. : )

3. Channel Surfer:
A favorite sexy anthology of mine is Wild, Wicked, & Wanton. Pretty hot in my opinion, so I think you will have fun.

4. Law and Order:
Hmm...I have to dig a little deeper to find a series that I enjoyed and that is new to you. I settled with the epic romantic fantasy of C.L.Wilson's Tairen Soul series, starting with Lord of the Fading Lands. Don't let the cheesy covers discourage you, and the whole series is complete, so if you like the first one, there will be no waiting involved.

5. Dancing with the Stars:
Hmm...something outside of your comfort zone? Considering your eclectic bookshelf, I don't think there is anything outside your comfort zone....LOL...Anyway, here are my choices: Gabriel's Ghost by Linnea Sinclair (romantic scienc fiction) and Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Identity (Totally left field, i know, but its a fast-paced book with a good romance in it...yes I said romance...)

6. That's so Raven: The last YA book I read was Hand's Unearthly. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. Hope you will feel the same way.

7. Tha Amazing Race: I've always wanted to visit Ireland, so I'm going to recommend Nora Robert's Jewels of the Sun, first book in her Irish trilogy.

8. My Favorite Channel: Lately I spent more time watching cooking shows and cooking competitions, so I'm going to recommend books with food and food preparers. Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate is considered a classic and a good example of magical realism. Just like comfort food, I also have comfort reads. Jayne Ann Krentz is an author I pick up when I'm feeling blue, and her books always comforts me. Here are two favorite oldies: Family Man (heroine wants to own a pesto business) and Trust Me (heroine is a wedding caterer).

Well, I hope I have given you enough diversity to choose from. Unfortunately, due to my limited time, I won't be able to do any buddy reads. : ( Maybe next time.

Happy reading!

Carla (carlacollette) | 347 comments Lexa--Thanks for the thoughtful picks. I think that I'll try Virgin River; cozy sounds good, and I haven't found a great contemporary romance in awhile. I'm also putting Divergent on my to-read list, but will probably get to that one another month. Thanks again!

Thanks for the great pics Yz!!

OK, let's see...so many good choices. I need to read Murder Game and Like Water for Chocolate for other challenges so they have a good shot at this month. I checked on my kindle because Kept sounded familiar and I have it already so that's a good bet too. I've already read Wild, Wicked, & Wanton and I agree, it's great! I've never read anything by Jayne Ann Krentz so I am very interested in Family Man and I've already put in an interlibrary request for it. So....I will see how many of these great choices I can get to this month.

Thanks again for the great choices. I love that you noticed that not much is out of my comfort zone, LOL!

Oh my gosh!! Sorry I didn't get to see this earlier!! SOOO many good picks this is amazing Melissa, thank you! I'm always looking to jump out of my comfort zone a wee bit :) haha. These are the picks I'll probably check out!

The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead Angels & Demons (Robert Langdon, #1) by Dan Brown Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning

I've been trying to find excuses to pick up Succubus Blues & Dark Lover after hearing so many good things about them and now I do! LOL. Crossed I'm already going to pick up when it comes out so that will be great!! TY!! I'll let you know what else I swoop up. Most likely those and also The Host since I know its at my bookstore nearby.

P.S. Anyone know who I'm suppose to pick for? I'm the LAST person on the list. But both people on the top are checked off. So do I just not pick for anybody?
