Would you read adult? I think it's probably easier to find your theme in adult books.

Have you tried the Anita Blake series?

also this series is really good and quite sexy...once you get back the first book. It's kinda lame but it totally gets much better after that.

Thanks Casey. That seems to be the theme with the books I'm looking into the first one bombs and then the series get incredible. These are what I was kinda looking at
DarkfeverSome Girls BiteDark LoverSuccubus Blues
None of this stuff really grabs me but blurbs sometimes don't. I'm in a funk!

NA/YA I haven't read yet that u loved wanted!

adult high fantasy kinda dark magic ninja assassins very cool
Also I feel like these must be mentioned because I heart them and they're slowly spreading through the group and taking its members over one by one and you should be next:

I actually like all 3 of those series, but Fever and Georgina Kincaid get better as they go, whereas Chicagoland starts strong and goes downhill somewhat.
GK is faster to get into and Seth is adorable, but Fever starts getting super crazy around book 3.

Have not read those in your list but heard good about all. Seriously, the series that starts with Witchling, gets really awesome and sexy lol. I've actually told some people just to start with the 2nd book, but you do miss a lot that way.

I've also recently enjoyed the hunger games and most of the wool books. I was going to ready the next wool book, the prequel but after Wool 5, I'm not sure. I didn't care the 5th book. I think the author was too hung up on his own characters.
Thanks for any suggestion

That Angelfall looks like it might be something I would enjoy. Thanks

They too ME over!

I see you have Unwind on your to read list. That one is good and a bit different.

I got unwind sample on my nook to check out today. It sounds different enough that I'd like it.
Thanks

Now thinking between fantasy or regular paranormal...
i.e Finnikin of the Rock or My Love Lies Bleeding

The DH book I read was just okay and I never had any desire to continue with the series, but I know a lot of people are big fans of that series, so maybe I'm just super picky about my pnr. I preferred the first couple of books of her League series better, maybe because I think space assassins are more interesting than random paranormal creatures.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I will check them out. I have heard good things about Angelfall as well.

Angelfall and World After are great in you like Dystopians. The romance is really pretty light and it more about survival. Crazy stuff happens in both books.

No but it looks good, I will add it to the list :)

Or you could go with something a bit older (and therefore hopefully more obscure) like the Prydain Chronicles:

I dunno. I mean one has to assume if she's asking for books that she loves to read. But how much? Has she made it past the obvious choices yet? So hard to guess.

Anything that's scary/creepy-- something a bit like the mara dyer series maybe?

I second Jenny's recommendations as excellent YA fantasies.
I once did a Giving Tree request for a family where the mother filled out all the tags for each member of the family so the gifts were more her idea of what she wanted to see her family get, like educational games, family movies, etc. So it's possible the girl isn't an avid reader but the parent hopes to encourage more reading, that sort of thing.
If that's the case, or if you just want a little variety, I sent this series to my brother for his classroom (he taught sixth grade at the time, so eleven year olds) and he said his kids ate it up. It's a graphic novel, so it's a little different than the usual, but still a fantasy.

I highly recommend

Something by Gail Carson Levine? Ella Enchanted? Fairest? Shannon Hale's The Goose Girl might also be a good fit. Eleven also seems like a good age for a girl to become enchanted by The Enchanted Forest Chronicles.

Thanks Jenny! Its always a dangerous game to play picking out books for someone you don't know, but thanks for giving me some good ideas. This is not usually my genre so thanks for getting me started!

Thanks Rachel! I had not even thought of Bone. You are right if she is a reluctant reader a graphic novel might be a good way to go.

I was looking at Tamora Pierce. I've never read her but I have heard a lot of tweens, teens, and adults rave about her series.

Thanks for the ideas Kelley! Had not thought of those.

I love her books. Cannot recommend them enough. Her first two Tortall quartets (Song of the Lioness and Immortals) are shorter than your average YA these days since at the time publishers thought kids wouldn't read longer books. With Harry Potter, her books have gotten longer.

Much to my dismay, my niece WON'T read longer books. But she does like to read, she's just discouraged by the long ones. She's read the Lioness series. Hunger Games was her favorite book but also the longest she ever ready. She's 14. Anyone know any dystopian like books that are that length or shorter I could get her?

You could convince her to read ebooks so she doesn't notice the length? lol
