I love JLA and I love Covenant series more than VA, but I agree with Laura. Similarities between those two series went beyond coincidence or inspiration. I hove no problem with inspiration when it's under the radar and I'm not against the fanfic. Like Wallbanger, it might have been inspired by Twilight but that's where similarities ended. With Covenant it was more than that. Do you guys remember when Alex and Rose are brought back to academy? That scene in Dean's office made me pause and think if this isn't plagiarism what is? Because Aiden and Dimitri where standing in same position by the same wall, Alex and Rose were sitting in the same freaking chair and both Dean's said exactly same thing. That can't be pinned on coincidence and it was just the beginning. I did see all the similarities, I just decided to ignore and enjoy. :)

@ Annie I think the scene Laura meant is (view spoiler). I can't think of anything else.

This is first time I heard Obsidian being compered to Twilight but when I started reading Obsidian it reminded me of twilight. But in an "it was inspired by it" way and it grew into its own story pretty fast. For me JLA is a Cleaner. She took VA and delivered polished, improved version. Same goes for Obsidian, if it was really inspired by Twilight kudos to JLA for developing it into the one of my favorite series. Because I'm not a closet Twilight fan and I really hate it. She can keep cleaning up series as long as the authors are okay with it. And if they are who am I to protest? and she can play with anybody's "Lego's" as long as she builds another my favorite series! and that was my two cents! :)

Yeah I thought I'd have a problem with 3rd person pov too. But honestly, it works with this book. It's great to have two POV's, so either way I still feel connected to the story and characters. I'm loving it! But I love mermaids and mythology.

Yeah, I need to just bite the bullet and make room for it. After reading Arsen I am in serious need of a good old PNR or YA, so it may be sooner rather than later!

Well, Arsen by Mia Asher was one hell of a heavy read and had my emotions all over the map. It's definitely going to be a favorite around here, I'm certain, but wow did Cathy's selfishness drive me batty.

On to Heavy Metal (Goddesses Rising, #2) by Natalie J. Damschroder for a break from the emotional reads, then Some Like It Spicy (A Perfect Recipe #1) by Robbie Terman and maybe finally Of Triton (Of Poseidon, #2) by Anna Banks

message 29918: by Annie (new)

Annie Brewer (anniebrewer) | 2351 comments Erin, I want to read that. Sounds good. As long as she's not as bad as Kiera, I'll go batty here and there. But she better not drive me double batty, I'll chuck the book and be done.

She's much worse than Kiera IMO. You'll see what I mean when you read it, but it's set up so you automatically feel differently about the characters than you do in the typical sweet guy vs. the sexy-as-hell bad boy. The are aspects of the plot that made this so very wrong, but I really loved that it wasn't the typical ending we always get with these love triangles. It was completely unexpected, so as much as I hate her, I'm happy with what happened. Definitely going to be some very mixed opinions depending on which "team" the reader is on!! =/

And it is a good point! I understand how frustrating it must be for VA fans when peeps deny the connection between those two series. I was just saying that I'm aware of it all, I just prefer to ignore it. :) Though, I was really surprised Mead is okay with it or she actually got Covenant published.

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) That book/movie is so dark. In a chilling, non-monster way. I remember the very first scene with the father dying haunting me for years now whenever someone knocks on our door after dark, I get anxious

I know. right? From the second book things really got ugly and he still remained Mr. Good. He didn't freak out, he didn't yell, he didn't hit. I'm sorry but not even Canadians can be that nice all the time. Daniel is one of the most boring character I have ever met.

Come up off the couch? Is that some kind of metaphor? I was referring to Close Remembrance (The Krinar Chronicles, #3) by Anna Zaires anyways. 40% into Sins & Needles and not really into so far.

Don't let love triangle stop you, because until like 60% of the last book there is very little mention of Daniel's feelings and after that it's ignored until last few pages. the second book is insanely good with a lot of action and I liked third one too. just not how it ended.
