Very good to know Amazon now honors that low-price guarantee thing on preorders of Kindle editions. Guess yall do not need to go cancel and re-purchase pre-orders then. Yay! :D

message 1370: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) | 828 comments I've only pre-ordered a few Kindle books before, but the price was always adjusted if it dropped. Once I even got a few cents back after the fact. *shrug*

message 1371: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Really? I've never had a kindle book pre-order drop automatically. I wonder if it has something to do with the publishers being the sellers on some books?

message 1372: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments All I know is that when Crown of Midnight's price dropped like a week before its release my pre-order was still the old price. I had to cancel and re-pre-order. This is the first one that I haven't had to do that with recently.

message 1373: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I bet that the publishers who are on the agency model being the actual sellers of their ebooks is what causes that. The ones that Amazon controls, like smaller publishers and self-pubs, must auto-adjust. They probably can't adjust the prices on preorders of the books sold under the agency model. That would explain why these prices auto-adjusted and Crown of Midnight didn't.

Anna Kay (annakaybooks) | 697 comments These three are now on NetGalley!

Unhinged (Splintered, #2) by A.G. Howard Lady Thief (Scarlet, #2) by A.C. Gaughen Going Rogue by Robin Benway

message 1378: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Also, Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth dropped from $10.99 to $6.99 in ebook so if you preordered you may want to check on the price. And if you haven't ordered it you may want to do it before it goes back up. A lot of times the price will either stay high until release day, then drop; or they will get low before release and then go back up just before or on release day and then drop again after the initial surge or purchases. This one has been fluctuating a lot, but this is the lowest it's been and I don't see it getting lower anytime soon.

Heard this one's super depressing but if that's your thing then whatever.

None of these are on sale on Nook as of yet. I've been having difficulties getting B&N's pages related to Nook or Nook Book searches to load for me all day so I will probably not keep banging my head against a wall just to check that. But if you have a Nook then you may wish to bang your head against a wall until B&N price matches these.

It is also available for the Nook from BN for .99
I just ordered it. There is a movie coming out also in the near future.

Jean Valjean (OG 2010) (courfeyrack) | 162 comments Has anyone else noticed that a lot of Nook books are priced $1-2 higher than Kindle books? Was going to buy the Charley Davidson series and noticed that all of the books are at least $2 more on the B&N website. Wtf, m8. =/

message 1386: by Hillary (new)

Hillary (eledri) | 759 comments It's been like that for a while now. My poor Nook only gets used for series that I started on it. Rest of my stuff is either HC or Kindle now. :\

Jean Valjean (OG 2010) (courfeyrack) | 162 comments Sheesh. That's ridiculous. They have to know that people aren't going to buy from them if their prices are that much higher. It's just as easy to install the Kindle app on Nook and buy from them instead.

message 1388: by Jenny (last edited Oct 15, 2013 04:38PM) (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments They price match more than they used to but still not as much as they probably should. I think they're partially counting on people preferring epub because Kobo and Google and iBooks are usually more expensive than B&N, but ehh... there's really not much advantage to epub over mobi like they want to pretend, especially since the libraries and any DRMs are still separate.

I wonder how many people don't ever bother checking the prices elsewhere, though. Probably most don't think about it or don't feel like it.

message 1389: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (last edited Oct 15, 2013 04:43PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments B&N already dropped Nook and won't be sponsoring any new models, but I haven no complaints with the one I have because I use it like a tablet.

I'm going to get a reader sized tablet (not sure which brand) for my next reader. I want something which can support all formats (you can have Nook and Kindle apps), and can play my Netflix and do other tablet-esque things.

I try to read most of my non-galley books in epub, and use the Kindle paperwhite almost exclusively for my galleys because it's nice to be able to send them there and have them all in one place. That way, I just grab the reader depending on if I'm reading a regular book or galley.

message 1390: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Did they really? How did I not know this?
(The Nexus 7" is a pretty sweet tablet. Samsung's 8" Galaxy is also quite nice.)

message 1391: by [deleted user] (new)

on tablets looking at getting a windows surface anyone heard much??

I think Ill keep my kindle and get a tablet so I can have all the worlds haha

message 1392: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments I haven't gotten to really play around with a Surface for more than 30 seconds yet. They seem like they're pretty cool though, especially if what you want is a computer in tablet form rather than a tablet that's designed primarily for running the little apps. From what I understand the MS app store is lacking, but then the Surface runs Windows 8 so does it really need a bunch of little apps when you can run PC programs on it? I dunno. I guess it depends on what sort of programs it can run and what you are going to want to use it for.

message 1393: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments An 8" tablet sounds like a nice compromise between the 7 and 9 - big enough to do more media stuff on, but still not too big to lug around.

Melanie, I like having more than one reader option, since I do pretty much all of my reading on readers these days, unless I get an occasional hardcover for my collection, or an arc or find something random on a discount.

message 1394: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (curlykew28) | 16 comments Has anyone heard about merger of BN and Borders? Also, there is still talk of libraries etc moving away from printed books?

Jean Valjean (OG 2010) (courfeyrack) | 162 comments I hadn't heard of that! But, I just googled it and apparently it was back in 2010? Does that mean it happened already?

message 1396: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments Borders hasn't existed for a while now. I think that B&N bought up all of Borders' customer data when they were going out of business, is what that was.

Also, libraries won't move away from printed books any time in the near future for the simple reason that publishers are making it ABSURDLY expensive for libraries to offer digital books at all, AND then they're limiting it to ~25 rentals before the library has to repurchase the absurdly expensive license.

message 1397: by ErikaWasReading (new)

ErikaWasReading (erikawastaken) Though here in Texas we did just get our first all digital public library: http://bexarbibliotech.org/

message 1398: by Stacia (the 2010 club), groupaholic, YA-MA founder (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 5137 comments That's nice, Erika. :)

There are still a fair amount of people who don't/won't own ereaders, so I don't think mainstream libraries would be in danger of switching over to all eink anytime soon, although the number of branches overall are decreasing. I live in a pretty big town with a number of library branches and we've lost a couple over the past few years.

message 1399: by Karen (new)

Karen (lvsbks) I have a Nook HD tablet, and I love it. One of the things I like about it is that there is a place for a micro SD card. I don't have to use memory on my Nook to store books and movies etc. Considering a movie is 1 to 5G you can't put very many movies on internal storage before you run out. I have loaded movies to an SD card so I can change them out just like a DVD without having to delete and reload. The Nook HD is also open to the Android app store so I have the Kindle app on my Nook as well. It's really a great product.

HOWEVER....B&N customer service sucks, their books are higher priced, they don't have as many Indie books available, and they don't get new releases out in a timely manor. For example: Kristen Ashley's last book took 2 days after the release date to become available. Terri Anne Brownings latest book in the Rocker series....3 days. The one before this last one....almost a week. Aleatha Romigs last book, Convicted was released 2 days late. I sent emails asking why it was taking so long, and all I got was.....Sorry. No explanation. They are a book seller for crying out loud. That's all they sell is books...they should be the first to have them available. Amazon is selling toasters, bikes..pretty much anything you can think of, and they still get their books out faster.

Also, B&N will put out 10% off coupons, but they don't include ebooks. When asked they say that the ebooks are cheap enough. Hello....New releases are still 7.00 to 15.00$$$ And so what if they are cheaper than a print book. They should be. There is minimal cost in producing them. It's like they don't think that ebooks market is a growing market. They need to get their head out, and get a clue. I don't want Amazon to our only option, but B&N is going to go out of business because they won't be competitive. I love, love, LOVE my Nook, but they don't support it enough. OK....rant over.

message 1400: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) | 1946 comments B&N customer service DOES suck.

As for coupons not counting toward ebooks, you can thank the Agency Model for that.
