Hey Ya'll,I am an avid reader of all genres,I read everyday. Graphic Novels are new to me but I figured If I joined I could get some pointers on what to read. So Far I loved Locke and Key Series, and Fables. I am from Connecticut,Father of 2 boys. Also an aspiring rapper since I was 8 years old.
Hi I'm Jessica. I have been collecting graphic novels since I was 16, my brother gave me Ghost World for my birthday. I like to read a variety of graphic novels but almost always prefer some humor in my reading!
Hello all. I am a 44 year old comic book geek. I have been reading mostly DC Comics since Middle school my favorites being Batman, Green Arrow and the JSA. I no longer collect actual comics but do so virtually. I know of Marvel and if you ask me my favorite I would have to say the Avengers especially Hawkeye and Mockingbird.
Looking forward to seeing what you all are about. My favorite writers are Grant Morrison, Greg Rucka and Marv Wolfman.
Hi, the names Robbie. I am new to GR and slowly adding past read books.Look forward to discovering new adventures and hope to make some friends along the way.
Hello, everyone. My name is Faye. I live in the Philippines and I absolutely love reading comic books and graphic novels. My all-time favorite would probably the Y:The Last Man series.
Hello, I'm Jake from Northern Ireland. My favourite graphic novels include all Preacher, Transmetropolitan and all Batman.
Meran, from the Portland, Oregon area.Have read 'comics' for all of my 60 yrs (yes, even as a toddler... my mom says I taught myself to read ;) )
Loved Transmetropolitan! (I still think my blog should be named "I Hate It Here" for my feelings about Oregon)
I read superheroes as a kid (that's all I could find) but don't care for them, as an adult. I liked Sandman, both the Dream and the Gasmask versions; fairy tales are 'my thing' so I love FABLES; also American Vampire, Hellblazer, Madame Xanadu, Wasteland, Walking Dead, Criminal Macabre, Buffy, Girl Genius, all the Oz (for kids but awesome story and art) comics, Unwritten, Saucer Country, Dark Tower; and I'm a gamer, so KODT (knights of the dinner table) even though it has bad art ;)
So, as you can see, I read all these whenever I can.
I hope I gave some ideas for more reading to some of you folks!
Hello everyone! My friend Axel and I are working together on a graphic novel.
We've only just started and are still trying to figure things out but you can follow the development of his drawings here http://lewisandtemple.tumblr.com/ and my words here http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...
Would really appreciate any comments from comic fans!
Many thanks,
Dave
Hi group. I started reading graphic novels a few months ago at the young age of 30. I wasn't terribly interested in them as a kid (not sure why), but now that I'm older I'm trying to catch up. Hopefully being in the group will help broaden my tastes some more.
I'm just beginning The Cartoon History of the Modern World, parts I ⅈ I just found they were around..... I'd read the first three, the history of the Universe (in 3 volumes). Great stuff! If you've not read it before, it gives you humorous, non religious, how man and history came to be, that kind of thing.I'll be doing his Cartoon Guide to Statistics right after. I've always wanted to know how to do them ;)
All by Larry Gonick, if you're curious.
Hello, I'm fairly new to the group. I joined because the voices in my head told me to lol. Seriously though, I joined because I'm a huge comic book/graphic novel nerd, so much so that my friends are becoming interested in this kind of culture to see what the big deal is. I'm mostly a Marvel fan, but I like some D.C., Dark Horse, Vertigo and Image comics as well.
Hi! My name is Mihai and I'm from Romania, but just moved to UK. I'm planning, together with a good friend of mine who's an artist,to start an online graphic novel. I hope it will soon be ready and maybe get some opinions from you guys. Thanks a lot!P.S.: I'm into Batman, Sandman, Superman, Green Lantern and still looking to expand my graphic novel and comics horizon.
Hi! My name is Morgan, I'm an MSc Publishing student at Edinburgh Napier University (originally from America). As part of a school assignment, I have to propose a book that MAY be published next trimester. The first step in this long and complex process is market research. That hopefully means you guys :)
I created a brief survey (it's in 2 parts but it's almost all multiple choice) to guage the market for my proposed new product. Please take five minutes of your day to answer the questions, it would help me greatly and I think you'll enjoy it!

Thanks very much in advance and tell your friends!
Best,

Hi guys. I'm Charlie. I'm a comic book illustrator, writer, and fan. I just signed up for GoodReads after some friends recommended it. Seems like a pretty great place so far. Looking forward to talking to you all about comics and stuff.
Hi I'm Punk, newly arrived in planet Goodreads - and I write graphic novels about adventures in the music industry. Maybe there's a way of showing you a sample if anyone's interested. But mostly, I'm here to say hello. And this seemed like the perfect group to join (thankfully you can't tell that I don't wash or clean my teeth too much)
Welcome Suge, Shaokun, Morgan, Charlie and Punk :)Punk wrote: "Maybe there's a way of showing you a sample if anyone's interested.

Sure, you can post anything self-promotional in the Off Topic & Promotional Folder.
I lied. I do wash. I'm even clean shaven (about the only person during during Movember). Although my self portrait in the graphic novels always has a bit of a beard going. Must be wishful thinking
Hi, my name is Devon. To be honest I haven't read too many comics so far but I am gaining a new interest in them. I'm a late bloomer. So far I have started out reading Watchmen, Ghost World, and Black Hole and I hope to expand that list (thus giving my reason for joining). I am looking forward to reading graphic novels with the accompany of more experienced readers.
Ken, I have been a fan of Comics for ages and while still love a superhero romp, have also gotten into some of the no hero stuff mentioned by many of the previous posts like Y: the last man, Transmet, Preacher, 100 bullets, and Locke and Key. I think Warren Ellis is awesome, in his sick and twisted way. I am always looking for suggestions, both caped and not to pick up and read.
Hey Ken, Logan here. Been reading comics/TPBs/GNs for a few years now. Currently reading Chew, Vol. 3: Just Desserts, loving this series. Other series i'm also currently reading are DMZ, and Y: The Last Man. Glad to be a part of this community here and hopefully will find many more books to read.
Hello everyone!I'm from Croatia and I'm so happy that I found this group (because my friends don't read any graphic novels and guys prefer Bonelli)! I'm reading bande dessinée for years and recently started reading some argentinian graphic novels (the last one being El Sueňero by Enrique Breccia). I'm glad that I finally have someone to discuss the books with and can't wait to find some new graphic novels and comics.
Welcome Devon, Dana, Logan and Dora :)@Dora: What you mean by Bonelli is black and white italian comics, right?
By the waym Enrique Breccia is awesome. I loved his Eternauta. :)
@SérgioYes, Bonelli was italian comic book author (he passed away few years ago), he created a bunch of heroes and people here adore his work.
And Breccia, yes, he is so awesome, I met him at the ComicCon, he was sitting there for hours until everyone got their drawing. :)))
INGINIO STRAFFI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His "Winx Club" is doing VERY WONDERFULLY, As usual. AND He is getting ready to celebrate 10 YEARS OF "WINX CLUB" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greetings! Just thought I'd do the decent thing and say hello. I'm from Belgium and I've been into the sequential artform for, say, a year or 2. My favourite publishers atm are Fantagraphics, D + Q, Image and Dark Horse. Looking forward to some enticing discussions on this forum. Feel free to add me as a friend whenever you like. Cheers!
Hi everyone, I just found out this awesome group existed! My name is Aniell and I enjoy reading mangas and graphic novels occasionally.
Hi. I'm Anton and I'm from the Philippines.I started reading comics back in 1997 (I was 7 years old) with an issue of the Ultimate Spider Man comic my brother has. Then, I stopped for a long time and re-started about a month ago. My focus is mainly on Marvel because my brother is reading DC. Although, we both have love for Vertigo.
My favorite characters are Dr. Doom and Dr. Strange. I also use them in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. :)
I'm Jacob, a mathematician currently living in Kansas. I read a lot of Marvel comics as a young teenager, then stopped in the '90s (when everything got terrible, and I got a little older.) I rediscovered comics in grad school, and was very pleased to see they had gotten much better.I usually prefer superhero/sci-fi over indie/emotional books and Marvel over DC. I like cool ideas and well-planned plots with satisfying endings. I hate inconsistencies and bad writing. Also, I tend to be a bit of a completist, so I end up reading a lot of terrible stuff, too.
But, if I was going to be trapped on a desert island and could only take one graphic novel it would be Asterios Polyp, which is totally real-world and emotional, so my self-description might be flawed.
Hi J. ... such high praise for Asterios Polyp...Darn it, now I'm gonna have to order it!
Don't you people have any sympathy for my wallet?
heh, thanks for the tip, always looking to read stuff that's out of the ordinary that I had no idea existed before "reading" about it here on these threads
I'm Marta, I'm from Mallorca, Spain. I draw and I would like to make comics. I want to have a solid base on comic culture and read the best graphic novels I can and comment them with people that have a great knowledge about comics.
Hi and happy new year to everyone.
I'm Skylark, from Spain. I'm a teacher, hoping one day to become a profesional writer. I mostly read fantasy and sci-fi, currently with a fairy-tales retold and steampunk challenges for 2013. Any recommendations will be more than welcome!
I also plan on re-reading some of my favorites graphic novels soon: "Maus" by Art Spiegelman and "The Sandman" series.
Hopefully, I'll get time to join some of your groud reads too.

Hi my name is Chris and I've been reading comics and graphic novels since about 1983. I was fortunate enough to live through, and experience firsthand the publication of such seminal works as Watchmen and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns both of which I read as a child and later revisited many times as an adult. I've always enjoyed graphic storytelling, though for the past few years I've had a renewed interest in superhero comics.
I'm Elizabeth and I'm new to the group. Anyway, I've been interested in comic books since I was young. I think that can be attributed to my dad who has been collecting comic books since I was a child. He currently has over 6000 in his collection. I started out as a fan of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics (don't judge me :D) but then moved on to Slave Labor Graphics comics (which I still enjoy). I also really enjoy the Sandman series. However, my favorite comic book series would have to be Batman. I'm definitely a DC fan. My boyfriend, also a comic book fan and collector, is more Marvel and Image comics.Anyway, I look forward to making new friends and taking part in book discussions.
-Elizabeth

That's so great! Thanks for telling me, I didn't notice :) I'll see if I have time to join, I would need to re-read Vol. 1 first.. and I'm also currently into the Walking Dead series. I'll keep an eye on the Sandman's boards

Hey everyone, I'm Natalie. I've only recently started reading graphic novels and found that I really enjoy them. So far I've read Watchmen and Arkham Asylum, and I'm reading V for Vendetta at the moment.Looking forward to some recommendations for others to read!
Natalie wrote: "Looking forward to some recommendations for others to read! "Hi Natalie,
I also only recently started reading GN's (about a year ago), and started with Watchmen. I would recommend the series, "Y: The Last Man". It was one of the first series I read and I couldn't put it down. My wife also read it and loved it too.
It is 10 volumes, but just start with volume 1 and you'll be hooked!

I am Joyce from Hong Kong. I love graphic novels. I love it so much my graduation thesis is on graphic novels (Persepolis, Epileptic and a bit of Maus).
Watchmen is my favorite so far, but there are too many people who tell me I shouldn't make this decision before reading sandman. Will definitely read it after my thesis is done!
Read Stitches by David Small today in one sitting. Intense and depressing, but that's totally my style. Re-reading value is high!
