Christie | 133 comments Haha, Jacqueline, I'm the opposite! I've read Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, but not Mockingjay (soon!). Let me know what you think of the book when you're finished with it.

message 3512: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline (missjackieann) I will Christie :) so far I like it. Have you read any of the Hunger Games books? They are pretty good.

message 3513: by Christie (new)

Christie | 133 comments I just read the Hunger Games. It was so hard to put down that I read it all within 24 hours. Hopefully I'll get more sleep when I read the next one. :) haha

message 3514: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments I just finished Red Rose of Anjou in my saga of English history, as well as Sexing the Cherry. I read Oranges are Not the Only Fruit a few weeks ago. I think Winterson has something about fruit...

Ha ha, no you won't. I found the other two 10x more addicting than the first one. :)

message 3518: by Marissa (new)

Marissa (schnuckems) | 17 comments finished We Need to Talk About Kevin, gonna go back and read David Copperfield. Also, normally books are better than movies, but i found the movie and book for we need to talk about kevin equally good.

message 3519: by Christie (new)

Christie | 133 comments Jacqueline wrote: "Ha ha, no you won't. I found the other two 10x more addicting than the first one. :)"

Oh no! Or should I say, oh yes! :D I better wait until I know I have the time to get addicted though. Ahh, the anticiption is too much!

message 3520: by Christie (new)

Christie | 133 comments Oh and thanks for your honesty, Jacqueline. Appreciate it. ;)

message 3521: by Christie (new)

Christie | 133 comments Hey, Marissa. I was just thinking about the relationship between books and movie adaptations today (and how usually book > movie by a long shot). Book = movie is certainly a rarity!

message 3522: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (ladyravencullen) I just finished reading Breathing by Cheryl Renee Herbsman . It was a really great book. I highly recommend it. :-)

I am now reading Rival by Sara Bennett Wealer . So far it's good...haven't quite learned what made the two girls become rivals yet, but I'm wanting to know.

message 3523: by Nicole (last edited Apr 13, 2012 10:03PM) (new)

Nicole (nkb992) | 35 comments I've finished
A Miracle, A Universe: Settling Accounts with Torturers
El Nuevo Mundo Descubierto Por Cristobal Colon: Una Comedia en Tres Actos = The New World Discovered by Christopher Columbus
La Traicion En La Amistad

A Miracle, A Universe was an amazing book by a journalist from the New Yorker who spent a lot of time in Brazil and Uruguay interviewing people and researching the military dictatorships in those countries and their aftermath. It's not an easy read but it's worth it.

I've almost finished Utilitarianism and am waiting for the semester to end so I can finally have time to get back to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

message 3524: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments I just finished Girl, Interrupted and The Free World: A Novel and I'm halfway through Ragtime right now. I'm also re-reading A Game of Thrones since it's been so long since I had to stop midway through A Clash of Kings that I figured it was easier to just start the whole series over again.

message 3525: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Furger (librarian_witch) I'm doing a lot of reading for classes, but in my free time I am reading http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15... and I just finished The Hunger Games. Frankly, I was unimpressed and I do not plan on reading the other two.

message 3526: by Jacqueline (last edited Apr 19, 2012 03:54PM) (new)

Jacqueline (missjackieann) I just finished Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress and started on The Club Dumas. I am also working on Eat Thunder & Drink Rain: Poems.

message 3527: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (roaming_librarian) I am currently reading Crisis on Infinite Earths. Over the past few months I have really jumped into the world of comic books especially DC. Batman is a favorite of mine, but I am trying to see what the other Superheroes have to offer. So far this graphic novel is a bit slow and hasn't really grabbed my attention. I am, however, learning about a bunch of smaller heroes that I normally would not have known without reading this graphic novel.

message 3528: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (fallenmurphy) I am almost done with Wild Rose The True Story of a Civil War Spy by Ann Blackman which I hope to use for my upcoming research project next semester.

message 3529: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline (missjackieann) I finished Eat Thunder & Drink Rain: Poems, not as good as I hoped. I am now reading A Discovery of Witches along with The Club Dumas.

I just finished The Woman at the Light: A Novel by Joanna Brady. It was a GoodReads win and I really enjoyed it. Historical fiction set in the Florida Keys. Not your normal setting for historical fiction.

Now started my next win, Finding the Perfect Wave, Part One by Cheri H. Miklich. Not far enough in to have an opinion yet.

message 3532: by Beth (last edited Apr 30, 2012 03:07PM) (new)

Beth Just finished Stolen A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher and Solace of the Road by Siobhan Dowd . I really liked Solace of the Road, but Stolen not that great. I'm currently reading Trainspotting by John Hodge and Bog Child by Siobhan Dowd

I just finished The Union Quilters: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel by Jennifer Chiaverini. Another Goodreads win, and I really liked it. Historical fiction set during the civil war, but from the Union not the Confederacy.

Just started the next one, Pocket Kings by Ted Heller and am just about 5 pages in. No opinion yet.

message 3540: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay Just finished The Fault in Our Stars and Legend of Drizzt, book #2.

Now reading: LOTR Fellowship of the Rings and Legend of Drizzt, book #3.

message 3541: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nkb992) | 35 comments FINALLY got to finish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo since I got home for summer break a few days ago. It was fantastic. Probably going to start Catching Fire next.

message 3542: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Furger (librarian_witch) I'm currently reading Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John Le Carré and fulfilling my unquenchable thirst for nonfiction with Henry Kissinger's On China. Both are keeping my mind stimulated during a summer of monotonous jobs.

I'm really interested in starting On China. How are you finding it?

I just started reading Stray Bullets and A Game of Thrones. I'm hoping that they're entertaining.

Ashley, I love it. It presents a completely different view of the Cold War and Chinese history than what has been presented in the classroom. I find Kissinger's writing engaging as well. I personally find Henry Kissinger and his policies distasteful, and a lot of his opinions are presented without much to back them up, but this is true of any history text so it's easy to weed out the unnecessary things. The paperback version is finally out (and it's much cheaper than the hardcover!) Good luck and let me know how you find it! :)

message 3546: by Niel (new)

Niel | 390 comments I have started reading Valhalla Rising (Dirk Pitt, #16) by Clive Cussler , so far living up to the Dirk Pitt series

Thanks for information! It sounds like we're on pretty similar pages when it comes to Kissinger so it's good to hear that it's still an engaging book.

I just finished So Much Pretty and I'm starting Becoming which is interesting enough so far.
