Jessie (Jessie08) | 128 comments I just finished Say You're One of Them, and I would not recommend this to anyone. Also, I'm still working my way through Anna K.

Tami--That was my experience too!!

Jessie--I have that one on my TBR list so I'm interested in why you wouldn't recommend it!

message 2353: by Becca (new)

Becca (bee11) I just finished "The Perks of being a Wallflower" and I'm in the middle of reading "Generation Me" for fall orientation. I loved Wallflower, but as anyone read Generation Me?

message 2354: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments Ohhh how did you like wallflower? I finished it a few weeks ago and loved it!

message 2355: by Becca (new)

Becca (bee11) It's now one of my favorite books. I'm so glad I decided to read it! I swear, I wanted to quote the entire book to everyone I know. It was simply amazing :)

message 2356: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments Yeahhh, that's how I felt hahaha.

message 2357: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Richard wrote: "Hmmm. How is it reading multiple books at once? I always tend to focus on one book at a time, even though I would like to read all my books at once haha."

I wind up focusing solely on one of them eventually. For instance, I applied myself and finished Fifth Avenue, 5:00am this afternoon. I usually read more than one book if nothing is grabbing me and holding my attention.

message 2358: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments Ahhh... That's a good idea. I feel bad cause I just started a book blog, and this book is the second one I'm doing, but the book is long and I have a lot of stuff going on, so it's taking a while. I'm only 37% done right now (232/619 pages).

message 2359: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker That's why I didn't want to have my personal blog be just about books: If I'm not finishing, I can't post and consistency is important when you're starting a blog. Are you writing for our blog?

message 2360: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments No, it's just a blog I started on tumblr.com. I have two actually: a personal blog and a book blog. Once I finish this book I'll probably be posting one every week. The next books on my list are quicker reads.

Jessie (Jessie08) | 128 comments Jamie wrote: "Tami--That was my experience too!!

Jamie, there were a numnber of reasons. I never felt like I knew any of the characters, plus the author used African words throughout the book but not in the way where you could understand what they meant which made it pretty confusing at points, also despite it being a book of short stories it felt very slow at points. Overall I just thought that it was poorly written.

But it has gotten some great reviews. So don't let my opinion stop you from reading it. Just let me know what you think of it when you do ;)

message 2362: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline (missjackieann) i finished Lord of the flies and now I am reading Women and Writing by Virginia Woolf.

Just finished Frankenstein. I loved it. So different than what I thought the story was.

Not sure what to start now. Since I am at work, I should probably do just that, Work. But.....I already hear the books that are out in the car calling my name. Oh and my ereader too. :)

I lasted until lunch break. Decided on 1984. Hopefully will love it.

message 2365: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments Now that I have an iPod touch I'll just be gettin free e-books from B&N and read those. Cause I'm against replacing the actual book with an electronic version.

message 2366: by M (new)

M I just finished Mark Twain's The Diaries of Adam and Eve. Very interesting and funny.

message 2367: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Tami wrote: "Just finished Frankenstein. I loved it. So different than what I thought the story was. "

Oh man, I know! I read that my senior year in high school for AP English and it totally surprised me. I wasn't looking forward to it in the beginning, but I ended up loving it.

message 2368: by Jules (new)

Jules (randomisedhabit) | 123 comments I just finished The Lost World and Other Stories, which was pretty interesting, though a bit too drawn-out elsewhere. Now I want to watch that crappy The Lost World TV show! Heh.

Anyway, I might either start American Psycho next or continue with Jane Austen's Letters or English Romantic Poetry. It's probably going to end up a mixture of all three... or something else entirely. We'll see.

Samantha (samhanson) | 179 comments Richard wrote: "Now that I have an iPod touch I'll just be gettin free e-books from B&N and read those. Cause I'm against replacing the actual book with an electronic version."

You can do that with an iPod touch? I need to hook mine up!

message 2370: by M (last edited Jul 20, 2010 07:41PM) (new)

M Since I just finished Middlesex, I'm going to start on the Sherlock Holmes series. So, a A Study in Scarlet first. :D

Well and also still reading Anna Karenina.

message 2371: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments You can do that with an iPod touch? I need to hook mine up!"

Yeah, you can. You just need to get the eReader B&N app and then through it log onto your B&N account and voila, access to your online library :D.

Jules, I love the contrast: American Psycho and Jane Austen's Letters or English Romantic Poetry!

message 2373: by Laura (new)

Laura (thatlibrarianlady) I finished Neverwhere. Now I'm reading Stardust.

message 2374: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Within the past few days I have started and finished A Million Little Pieces and A Northern Light. I think I'm going to start The Count of Monte Cristo soon.

Is Stardust related to the movie that came out with Michelle Pfeiffer?

I've never seen the movie so I'm not totally sure, but I looked at the synopsis and it looks like they're the same story to me.

message 2377: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Yeah, it's the same story. I've seen the movie and read the book, and I actually think the movie was better for once.

message 2378: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments Ahhh... Probably due to Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro xD.

message 2379: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (samhanson) | 179 comments Just downloaded the B&N ereader! Haven't tried it yet, read some reviews on iTunes saying it won't load so hopefully it works for me.

To keep on topic: I just finished Brave New World, really enjoyed it. Planning on starting Franny and Zooey next because I do love me some Salinger.

message 2380: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I've been doing really badly about finishing anything. I haven't had much time to read lately and when I have had time to read, I get easily distracted. I'm almost halfway through Out of Africa, which I love, but it's not the type of book that you just speed through. I'm a few pages into Atlas Shrugged and One Hundred Years of Solitude, both of which I'd really like to read. I think I want to read the Marquez book more though. Hopefully, I'm able to get some time and some concentration soon because I miss reading!

message 2381: by Jess (new)

Jess Yeah, I understand what you mean, Lori. I was working on RW Holmen's A Wretched Man: A Novel of Paul the Apostle for a while, which I finally finished.

I decided to take a break from heavier/historical stuff to read Aimee Bender's The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.

message 2382: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I felt the same way about Stardust. The movie is one of my very favorite movies, but I didn't really care for the book.

I just downloaded the ereader app, too, and it works for me. Maybe the people who are having problems just haven't upgraded to a newer O.S. yet.

message 2384: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellieag) I just finished reading It Started with a Dare and am now reading Wildthorn. (I've been reading lots of YA lately.)

message 2385: by Jess (new)

Jess I finished reading The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. Meh. I really did NOT like that book.

I started Maeve Binchy's Heart and Soul, which I received from Fodor's as one of their giveaways. It's good so far!

message 2386: by Jeana (new)

Jeana (tessamay07) | 3 comments I have just finished reading, Barbara Kingsolver's Pigs in Heaven. I enjoyed it and I thought it would be a good read since I had read The Bean Trees for Highschool.

Currently reading Carrie Ryan's THe Dead-Tossed Waves, which is fantastic.

message 2387: by Laura (new)

Laura (thatlibrarianlady) I'm going to have to watch the movie when I'm done with the book (Stardust). I've been enjoying the book so far.

The only thing I can't figure out about Gaiman is the way he structures his endings. The book could have been over by now if he had structured it a little differently. I felt the same way about Neverwhere. The last little chunk of that book was just unnecessary.

message 2388: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments The movie is amazing!!!! I need to read the book haha.

message 2389: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (kalypso) | 214 comments The last book I finished is Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I am now almost done with The Girl Who Played with Fire. I am not sure what to read next. Part of me just wants to keep going and read the third one but I also have a million other books I would love to start.

message 2390: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments The Millenium trilogy is staring at me from my parents' bookshelf... But I also have so many books of my own I still need to read. Am currently reading The Magicians and hopefully finishing it tonight, after that I'm starting either Take a Chance on Me or The Count of Monte Cristo.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is DEFINITELY worth reading.

I've heard that's good too. I want to read it at some point.

message 2394: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I just finished The Magicians and I didn't like it. I'm always sad when I don't like a book, especially one I own. I expected so much of it cause I love books about magic, but the main character was just a miserable, arrogant, never satisfied boy. Plus, this other world in the book sounds just like Narnia, which to me doesn't really signal creativity.
Now I really need something light and fun, so I've decided on Take a Chance on Me cause Jill Mansell always delivers feel-good funny books.

message 2395: by Brecken (new)

Brecken (breckenrobb) I just finished Heart of Darkness and it's one of those books you are not sure how to feel after you have finished it. I'm kind of stuck in a standstill wondering about the essence of humanity and how none of us truly know how to handle world situations sometimes. Should we be concerned, should we turn our back? And I think that was Conrad's point. Maybe no one knows. Nonetheless, it was an eye-opener, and although sad, I enjoyed it.

Starting (or re-starting, too slow for me the the first go-around, giving it another shot) Run by Ann Patchett now!

message 2396: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I finished Take a Chance on Me and I loved it! Jill Mansell always gets it right with witty characters and just plain feel-good romance. Which was just what I needed after the disappointment of the Magicians.

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments Ever since joining goodreads I've heard great things about The Millenium Series, but I'm still only number 273 on my library's waiting list! I have a million other things to read, but I'd like to read them before I go back to school.
I might break down and buy The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo...

message 2398: by Richard (new)

Richard (nemzep95) | 448 comments Yeah I want to read the Millenium series, but I doubt I'll get it before I go back to school. Maybe my school library or local library near my school will have it.

message 2399: by Rayna (new)

Rayna (Poindextrix) (poindextrix) | 59 comments Yea, getting it from my school library is a definite plan since they employ a lot more resources to get books for students. Of course once I get back to school I probably won't have time to read it...

If there is a Goodwill near you that's an awesome place to check for books. I have found a lot of the more popular books people have donated and paperbacks are only 50 cents. It's hit or miss but worth a shot.
