I bought two travel guides, one for Paris (will be there in May) and one for Côte d'Azur (summer holiday). They were on sale, I couldn't resist. I prefer paper guides to ebooks even though everybody recognizes me as a tourist.

I had to stop myself from buying more but I purchased 4 books today ( two are in German): Der Meister und Margarita by Michail Bulgakov, Empört Euch! by Stéphane Hessel, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and the second book of the Hunger Games trilogy : Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.
I've discovered the free classics for kindle.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
A Stable for Nightmares or Weird Tales
A Harlot High and Low
The Phantom of the Opera
Carmilla
The Flood
The Fortune of the Rougons
The Masterpiece
The Downfall, Volume 1
I just have to stop myself from overloading my kindle. :)

I'm finding it hard to restrain myself--like a kid in a sweet shop :)
Marlene wrote: "No book-restriction anymore? ;)"Well, actually yes:D It starts again today. I allowed myself to read one book that has nothing to do with school but starting today I will get back to my English, History and Religion books. I just bought those to have something to look forward to...And as I said I had to stop myself from buying more....
I just purchased Ingrid Newkirk's The Compassionate Cook. The Compassionate Cook: Please Don't Eat the Animals

Today I hit my local used bookstore and came home with:The Complete Sherlock Holmes

A Visit from the Goon Squad

(Admittedly, I may have gone a bit overboard- particularly since I just ordered two other books from Amazon yesterday- but, in my defense, I subscribe to the belief that one can never have too many books.)
I bought Mr. Churchill's Secretary: A Novel last night. It just sounded good & today I've read some reviews that back me up. I have my fingers crossed.
I just got Samuel Beckett's novels. I'm looking forward to them.

What a great list. East of Eden (and Steinbeck in general) is a favourite. No, you can definitely never have enough books. It's one thing I never feel guilty about buying. Makeup, clothes, etc-- these things are trifles, books are a necessity.

They are for me too - but as I'm in the middle of my final exams and am going to move in october (I haven't figured out how to take all of my books yet) it probably isn't a good idea to buy so many. I still do, though. ;)

Just got this in the post today:
I've been wanting to read this book forever and it taken me ages to find a copy of it.
My most recent purchases were Expletive Deleted: A Good Look at Bad Language and Through the Language Glass: Why the World Looks Different in Other Languages. I hope to actually read them one day.
I traveled to Havana, Alabama, no doubt named by some veteran of the Spanish American War and attended an estate sale with a very, very large library. I walked out with a much coveted Alabama history of Red Eagle and the Creek Indian War published in 1898. The condition was superb. Then there was a first edition first printing of Robert Frost's In the Clearing, and the first American edition of Lady Chatterly's Lover. Going back in the morning to check out a set of Hubbard's Journeys to Houses. The price tag was out of reach, so I'm hoping to make a more favorable offer in the morning. I had to research the editions and found they exist in numerous variations. Elbert Hubbard founded Roycroft Publishing, big in the Arts and Crafts Movement. I now have the points of issue on a true first. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Mike wrote: "I traveled to Havana, Alabama, no doubt named by some veteran of the Spanish American War and attended an estate sale with a very, very large library. I walked out with a much coveted Alabama hist..."Mike, I'm jealous of the In the Clearing! Sounds like it was a great estate sale.
I have to agree with Andrea. I am jealous and envious of that auction. How much were the books being offered for? I am sure my meager pennies and nickles would not have sufficed.
Andrea wrote: "Mike wrote: "I traveled to Havana, Alabama, no doubt named by some veteran of the Spanish American War and attended an estate sale with a very, very large library. Also picked up signed Hudson Strodes, well known for his bio of Jefferson Davis. I picked up his better known travel writings.
The last book I got was At the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft. I'm excited to read it even though I have 20 other books sitting around waiting to be read. I'm kind of annoyed though because Goodreads doesn't have my edition of the book.
A used bookstore I've been going to since it opened, recently went out of business. As sad as it was, they did have all their entire library of books on sale for a dollar each. *swoon*So, I've added 130 books to my library over the last 3 months. I, tragically, lost my whole collection to a moving mishap. A small step towards rebuilding.
Most recently I've added Eragon, Flowers in the Attic and A Game of Thrones. All books that have stirred loads of conversation that I haven't yet read. =)
Just got The Selected Works of Samuel Beckett, Amerika, The Complete Stories, and Mimesis: The Representation of Reality in Western Literature.
Bought some ebooks (some free, some paid). I scored Ice Cold and Murder Short and Sweet for $10.00 at B&N.
Recently one of my local bookshops was having a 3 for €5 sale so I brought the following: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
Night Road by Kristin Hannah
The Naming of Eliza Quinn by Carol Birch
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
Tara Road by Maeve Binchy
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
