Urban Fantasy discussion
What are you reading?

This is truly one of my favorite series. The characters are so unlike those in many other UF series. To me, they are so much more real, the dialogue is great, the writing style is wonderful. I can't wait for the next book!!

Did you like the audio better than reading? I can't decide if I want to listen to or read these books.

I just bought this one, I enjoy this series!!

Enjoying it so far and things seem to be getting pretty interesting.
Looking forward to

I really like this series. I remember the first book starting out a little slow and being a little confusing at first, but once I figured out how the different players interconnected I just loved it. I had originally found the series shelved in the romance department of my local book store, but if you go in expecting the typical style romance you will be disappointed. It's definitely more UF with a little romance thrown in. But I like the slow evolution of the relationship between Lily and Rule throughout the series. Plus, if you like mysteries this is a pretty good series. Lily starts out as a homicide detective and ultimately ends up working for a special branch of the FBI (or FBI-like government agency, I don't recall exactly).

It's one of my favorites, actually. I don't think Eileen Wilks gets enough recognition for this wonderful series. It's a nice mixture of different elements, though it can be confusing at times. That's why I'm re-reading the books.

im reading at the moment

its about a magicians college. the hero is a depressed young kid , with few dark thoughts, but not suicidal.
i like the writing, a bit of black humor, no lovey dovey things. but as for 23% of the book - there is not much happening, im still waiting for the story to start.
so for now - 3 stars

This is also on my maybe TBR list. I've seen mixed reviews. I'd love to know how it turns out.

I very much enjoyed that series so far too. I can't wait for the next one. Have you tried Stacia Kane's Downside Ghost series? I compared your books to mine and it looks like you have enjoyed many of the same books that I have. I think you might enjoy it.

This is one that I'm not going to know how to feel about it until I see how it all turns out at the end. Yeah, there is a lot of humor, sarcasm, one-liners. But maybe too much so. And based on what I've read so far, it seems that Charley uses the humor and sarcasm as a weapon to keep most people at arm's length so they can't get close enough to hurt her. It seems that most people in her life either think she's crazy because of her ability or have used her so they could benefit from her ability. So while some of it's funny, sometimes her wise-cracking is just sad to me. (Granted, that's just my interpretation.) But even so, that it's able to elicit emotion from me indicates that the author is doing something right. It's an easy read, and I'm holding out hope that Charley is one of those characters that we'll really get to see evolve as the series progresses.

I hope it does end well for you. I love finding new series with great character development.

My next book will be Cathedrals of the World which I am reading and reporting on for a friend.

Street Magic did not work for me either, I think I had to for myself to finished it

I see I wasn't the only one. I enjoy UFs that are unusual (like Carolyn Crane's Disillusionist series) but Street Magic was too...gritty? Will try to finish it soon, leaving books unread isn't me.

Waiting impatiently for mine to arrive in the mail. So excited!

I rather thankfully gave up that job when my arthritis made anything but short bursts of typing really painful. Luckily today is a really good day pain-wise so I am explaining why my reviews are usually so short.
Anyway, tonight I will start More than fiends, by Maureen Child. It is #1 in the Demon Duster's series.

I love that series. Although book 1 started out kind of slow for me. If it's that way for you, just stick with it. It's worth it.

I agree. I put the first book down multiple times before finishing it. I'm glad I did because this is one of my favorite series.
