As far as I know, it is sort of tied to her Lupi series. I'm reading Night Season (World of the Lupi, #4) by Eileen Wilks now, and the characters from the On the Prowl anthology are in the story.

I must say that Kai and Nathan's role has been very brief. I'm about halfway done with the book and I've seem them once so far. I honestly don't remember anything about this book, so I'm not sure how pivotal their role will be in this story.

ETA: I did want to say that this series is worth checking out regardless :)

I've a real love-hate relationship with this series. I get so sucked into each book (#1 was my least favorite) and yet there are so many things that drive me crazy about it. But I still just love it. Enjoy!

Christine | 752 comments I finished A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole and just loved it, despite all the things in it that usually make me dislike a story. Although, near the end, my eyes were starting to remember how to roll. Next up is Deeper Than Midnight (Midnight Breed, #9) by Lara Adrian in preparation for the release of Darker After Midnight next week.

Hey Annie! :)
After a few rough patches, I really got into the story. I loved that Alban was a gargoyle! Plus the Disney Gargoyles series is a childhood favorite) Really unusual and a refreshing change from the vampire/shifter books in the UF genre.

Leesie - A Local Habitation (October Daye, #2) by Seanan McGuire was actually my least favorite of the October Daye books. I think the setting wasn't as interesting for me, but I'm glad I stuck with it. I have read them all up through One Salt Sea (October Daye #5) by Seanan McGuire and I count it as one of my top 5 favorite urban fantasy series. Hope this helps!

I love Nalini Singh. Psy/Changelings is my favorite PNR. Have you read her Guild Hunter series yet?

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 208 comments gin wrote: "I've wanted to read this series a while now. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews. Maybe I'll move it highter up my list. Any comparisons to other series I might have read?"

I'm not really good with comparing series, so I'll tell you what I liked about the October Daye series and what other series I like. I really like the main character, Toby. She's tough, but she does have some vulnerabilities. She's always quick with a comeback, and the secondary characters are well rounded, too. The supernatural element in this series is the fae, although there are some shifters too (cat ones--and that includes one of my favorite characters). I really liked Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire , and I think that book is a good representative of things to come. I didn't enjoy A Local Habitation (October Daye, #2) by Seanan McGuire as much. I think it was the setting or maybe I wasn't in the right mood at the time. I did consider not finishing that book, but I'm glad I did read it. The rest of the books just get better and better. Just be warned that there isn't too much romance in these books. A little bit and it progresses with each book. (It's definitely not a paranormal romance.)

As for my favorite series, I love Mercy Thompson and Kate Daniels. I'm also a new fan of Alex Craft, Charley Davidson, and the Chicagoland series. I think they all share a strong kick-ass woman in common. Hope this helps!

Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones Some Girls Bite (Chicagoland Vampires, #1) by Chloe Neill

some of those are my favorites as well. Chicagoland and Charley Davidson are both on my TBR. If you really like Mercy and Kate Daniels, have you read Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter . I'm reading that series now. I don't think it is as good as the other two, but is very similar.

What did you think of Divergent?"

I enjoyed it. But it's a different style from what I'm used to. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. The writing is much more terse? brief? simple and direct? than I usually like. There are some heavy issues handle in a very matter of fact tone. A lot of things brought up or hinted at, but not much resolved. It really felt like this was just the background and set up for the real story to come. It's not a book I was still thinking about long after I put it down, but while I was actively reading I was totally engrossed. I almost wish I had waited to read it until later in the year when the next one comes out, because I really want to know what happens next. Is that clear at all?

YES! My cousin got me into Singh through the Guild Hunter series. I have read and really enjoyed the first two and have the 3rd cooling its heels in my TBR list. Maybe that should be one of the next books I pick up... :)

I've had Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter in my TBR pile for so long. I'm pretty sure I would like it too. I need to move it up in my pile. : )

message 441: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I enjoy seeing the October Daye series getting some love! It's one of my favorites! The 2nd was definitely a little hard in the beginning for me, but by the end I enjoyed it. Still probably my least favorite to re-read though.

Christine | 752 comments If I was going to start a new UF series, which should I go with first:
Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep Skinwalker (Jane Yellowrock, #1) by Faith Hunter Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire

message 443: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Looove October Daye. Huge vote for Rosemary and Rue. Oh Tybalt... I unfortunately could not get into the Elemental Assassin series at all, despite liking the idea behind it so I can't recommend it. It barely got off my dnf list, and only by sheer force of will.

message 444: by Gin (new)

Gin I can't speak for October dAye, it's still on my TBR. The other two I think I liked equally. Depends more what your in the mood for.

Jane yellowrock is a native american shifter vampire hunter. The books are heavy on were and vampire politics. I can't help but think of mercy Thompson and Kate Daniels with this series.

The elemental assassin books are well about an assassin....and magic. It's kinda cool being from the bad guys perspective. These books are quite original actually. If your in the mood for something a little different I would go with these.
