and am diving straight into
. When I started Blood Bound I was liking it but not loving it, but by the end I was really sucked in, so I'm starting the next one straight away :) I've been told this series gets better as it goes which seems to be true.

Moon Called, I felt that way! I did not even bother to read the rest of the books.
I waited almost a year before trying Blood Bound and then liked it and went on to read Iron Kissedand Silver Borneby that time I loved the series and could not wait for River Marked
I find Briggs characters grow on you. I really like Mercy,Adam and the rest. I heard there is a new book out.

It involves Samuel's Brother, Charles, and a girl that is mentioned briefly in the River Marked named Anna.

right now. Could not stop once I got into it! And I'm super into it. And yes, the end of Iron Kissed? My god. That was... my god. I think I'll start the Alpha & Omega series after this.... I hate it when I've gotten really into a series and hit a stopping point because then I don't want to read anything else and fall into an awful post book lull.

, which I thought was the first Alpha & Omega book, I was completely lost and thought I had somehow gotten a defective book. Then I found out about this anthology.
It is weird how that short story seems to be a secret. I always try to tell people when I see that they are getting ready to read it. :)

I read Cry Wolffirst and I thought the book was severly lacking until someone pointed out I needed to read On the Prowl. Of course after that I loved it!I still think it was an odd choice to put so much into the anthology without telling readers or even doing a better job covering the anthology in the book.

I agree this is unfortunate. I think a lot of people miss it and this is part of the reason that the series is not as popular as the Mercy Thompson series although IMO it is just as good. What I also did not like is that Briggs story is the only good one in that anthology!

The recap in Cry Wolf left a lot to be desired. Now I am thinking how well does she recap in any of her books??

Now I am thinking how well does she recap in any of her books??"I did go to a signing with Briggs and she said that had she known at the time she was writing the short story that she was going to continue that she would have ended the short with a different sentence. Then the people that were around us started talking and I didn't hear the rest.
The first time I read the books I didn't care for them as much, didn't see the appeal. But then this fall I did a re-read of them by audio and I can't believe how much I really liked them and I could finally see why people like them as much as Mercy.

I am one of those who likes the series as much as Mercy. I am not all that drawn to Anna I mean she is ok and I like watching her with Charles but really I like Charles and Bran. Ok I love Bran.... I think I am going to pick up my copy now :-)
Hey do you wonder with all the book store closings how with authors promote their books?
I do see a lot of authors that do virtual signings. I wonder if that is the wave of the future with stores closing and the rise of e-books.

hmm you have to buy the anthology to read one story so that you can read the first book in a series. Hmmm sounds like money lol. I think thats why its done like that. Im finding popular authors who know you will go "well ok then ill buy" are starting to connect their series that are set in the same world like that. Richelle Mead did this with her VA series and the new Bloodlines series. If you are intrested in reading bloodlines you have to Buy (or check out from library if you perfer) the 6 previous books in the VA series. Thats 7 sales per person.
Virtual signings ... I am not sure I have ever heard of such a thing...it seems like the antithesis of why I would go to a book signing...I think maybe I am getting old
What is the point of a virtual signing? Isn't the purpose of a book signing to meet the author?!I really liked Cry wolf, but not as much as Mercy. I never read on the prowl, so I wonder if that would have changed my opinion.

I started
and wasn't too impressed by Anna. After a few chapters in, I found "Alpha and Omega" and it really did change my opinion. I probably ended up liking the book better. And I definitely liked Anna better in

I tHink I might. It's been a while since I've read them and I haven't read the newest. Maybe I'll do a reread before I read that one.

I probably ended up liking the boo..."Anna is not "kick-ass" the way Mercy is. However she is very strong in a different kind of way. Because of the fact that she first comes across as a victim, some readers may not like her as much. For that reason perhaps her character needs to grown on you first.
Picked up Mercy Blade - This is the last one of the series I own and i am enjoying so far...then onto Troubled Waters which I just read a glowing recommendation about - new author/series for me, I am excited.

I liked Gemma, liked that she boxes and the misfits at the gym. Wasn't sure about the boyfriend and some of his actions. But mostly I gave it up because it was so slow. I kept putting down the book to clean and had a hard time going back to pick it up.
I would say give it a try, but get it from the library if you can.

I believe each story gets better and better so I have high hopes for the next book out. Anna can hold her own.

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry to hear it didn't live up to our expectations. It's never a good sign when you have a hard time picking the book back up. I had one of those last week.
Nice to see so many people talking about Patricia Briggs (though I guess she's a favourite for lot of people, including me). I just picked up River Marked in paperback (I was waiting for the ebook to drop in price, but Book Depository had the pb on sale with free shipping, so...). I just have to finish Kelley Armstrong's Stolen before I read it.I'm one of those who prefers Mercy to Anna, too, though Anna is definitely growing on me.
Has anyone read any of Briggs' other series? What did you think?

Patricia Briggs actually got me started in the UF world. I had read all of her fantasy books and got really impatient when she started writing UF (since I wasn't reading it at the time). I finally gave up on waiting for one of her traditional fantasy books. I decided to give
a try and quickly read through the series. Obviously, I am now an urban fantasy addict. If you like her UF series, you'll probably like her fantasy books since the writing and pacing are similar. I really like her Hurog duology

is also a favorite. (Goodreads has this one as #3, but you don't have to read them in order. I'm pretty sure I didn't.) I think everyone has their own favorites. Maybe my favorites are the ones I read first.
Patricia Briggs!! I loved the Hurog and Raven duologies as well. Though as Jean says, they are fantasy, not UF. I love all her books! I reread those two series every once in a while. Did I read somewhere she is going to write a sequel to Hob's Bargain or was I hallucinating?

Thanks for the P. Briggs comments! I read just about everything, so her other books not being UF certainly won't put me off. (I was a big high fantasy read long before I read UF, too.) Looks like my things-to-read list is getting longer. Good thing I read fast.
