Just posted my third and final blog post about my summer reads.

I started Foreigner this morning in paperback, which easily transports in my purse with my Nook Color. Next up in hardcover, after I finish The Snow Queen, is The Black Prism.

I read the series a few years ago; I'll be curious to know what you think of them. I'm about to go on vacation, so I have all four of Williams' Shadowland books queued up on the Kindle; in the unlikely event that I get through them (if civilization collapses and I'm trapped by the zombie hordes, for example), then I'll also have access to the full works of H. Rider Haggard and a few other goodies.

Once I polish off a A Clash of Kings I'll get to A Storm of Swords and The Hobbit for the Lord of the Rings reading fiesta going on this this community.

Blech. I hated that book. If you want to read a great book about building a cathedral, read The Heaven Tree Trilogy: The Heaven Tree, the Green Branch, the Scarlet Seed. Infinitely better.

Which I am currently reading. Up next: Fortress in the Eye of Time and Mistress of the Empire.

Unfortunately, I fell in love with the mini series, but the book reads a bit strangely. There's some introspection on the part of some of the characters, but not a lot. They just keep on rollin', dead mom or no, and do things that make me go "eh?" You can tell Follett liked Philip the best, since there is a lot of attention put on him right from the beginning. My favorite character in the tv series was Jack, and I hope the novel version of him is as awesome.

I didn't watch the TV series. In the book, the characters are cardboard cutouts and the cathedral building can be gotten from any tourist brochure on how to build a cathedral. I couldn't bear it. Good luck. A lot of people seem to like it, but I many times differ with the consensus.

I am reading Pillars of the Earth now, i like it so far and will probably finish the book. I am also rereading Magician, it feels kind of juvenile this time and i doubt i will finish it. After that i will read The Dragonbone Chair, The Warded Man, Storm Front and Neverwhere but not exactly in that order.

Fevre Dream is one of my favorite books by Martin and one of my favorite vampire novels. Can't telll you how many times I have read that.

Oh and also right now I'm just about finished with book 2 of A Tale Of The Malazan Book Of The Fallen: Deadhouse Gates. Also reading Souless which so far is not bad. But will be picking up book 3 Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson tomorrow or the next day.

I just finished the final book of the Malazan Book of the Fallen (The Crippled God) recently. Great series.

I wasn't planning on reading The Help, but there's been so much talk about it that I got sucked in. I requested it at the library but there are 11 holds ahead of me, so we'll see if I actually get to it this month.

Finished The Help last month for book club. I wasn't completely knocked over by it but it's definitely a worthwhile read, lots of good discussion points if you know someone else who's read it. Good luck getting a hold of it, looking forward to seeing what you think!

I am wanting to read The Black Prism, but am unsure whether to buy it or take it out from the library. The only problem is that the library does not have that particular title, and I will have to wait until next month, as the library is waiting to buy it in paperback format. Unfortunately it is not available in paperback until September. I might just have to go ahead and buy it in hard cover.

I'm re-reading the complete Kushiel Series (i.e.: Phèdre's Trilogy - for the third time - and Imiriel's Trilogy - for the second time). I read Jacqueline Carey's Naamah's Blessing within 3 days upon delivery and G.R.R.M.'s A Dance With Dragons within 5 days upon delivery. All of these I've loved for extremely different reasons. However, my re-reads yet again should send an obvious message. Even so, I've begun to collect Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Revelations and hope to begin this series once I have them all in my possession.

Yes, I'm a bit late to the party -- I've been traveling. Personally, my favorite cathedral book is
Cathedral by David Macaulay -- or it'd work wonderfully as a supplement to any other cathedral book -- much easier to understand the arches and flying buttresses and whatnot in illustrated form.

As for myself, I finished Blood of Elves on my outgoing flight, then finished Shadowmarch by Tad Williams on my return flight and started Shadowplay . I'm going to be reading this series for quite a while, I think.

As is anything by Guy Gavriel Kay. I think he & Jacqueline Carey have some of the most beautifully-written books I've ever read.
