Hmmmm, your message is marked with a red "new", when I look at it.
Don't know why you don't see it.☻
Wait, did you mean the topic itself? I'll have to check next time.

The way I get around this problem is that I am following this thread so get notifications. I'll let Goodreads know next week. Right now, I'm off to a quilt retreat.

Definitely suspicious!☺
Definitely suspicious!☺

Ive recently been rereading some of Stephen King's classics and have to say they still hold up and are still scary. Last month I read Salem's Lot and it gave me nightmares! The Stand is my favorite book of all time.
Ps I'm Sandy from NW Indiana.
My name is Sam. I have joined GoodReads before but was never active. I decided I'd like to make some online friends with similar interests. Stephen King is my favorite modern author (Charles Dickens is my favorite classical author) I love to read though now that my daughter is nearing the terrible twos I'm finding myself having to stay up after she goes to bed to get any real reading done. In hoping when she starts preschool next year I'll have more time to read.
I have also noticed that the red mark doesn't show when there are new messages for this thread. That's how I've missed ALL our recent newcomers. Weird.
So, here's a hearty welcome to all you new SK fans. What a great group we have going here. I hope you find you enjoy reading books SK has read and recommended with the rest of us.
Almeta and I are going up north for a long weekend, so won't be checking back in until Monday or Tuesday. So, here is a welcome in advance to anyone who pipes up while we are gone!

Hi Janaya. Welcome to the group. I'm sure you will find some of King's recommendations compelling. I've read some books I would have never chosen just based on SK's liking them. I expanded my horizons and so have others in this group.

Glad to meet you Sean. Look forward to your thoughts on the July/August group reads, and future discussions as well.

Glad that you have found us, Kristina. I think that you will find this group to your liking, we are not very demanding of your time, but do like to share reads that will likely suit you.
So far the Stephen King recommendations have not been disappointing! Controversial sometimes, but not disappointing! ☻

Hey Carol! You are in the right group. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Welcome aboard.

My name is Fred, I live in Brussels, I am an avid reader (and I am working in the publishing area - children books).
I came across Stephen King's books almost 20 years ago and I have read almost every book he wrote (I need to fill the gaps)
Also, even though I am a belgian, I enjoy some US beers (among others), I love cinema and to travel (when I can afford)
Cheers

Since ebola is in the news again, do NOT miss The Hot Zone, which King called "One of the most horrifying things I've ever read." It's not fiction; it's much scarier.

Welcome John.

Thank you Debra! :D the pleasure is mine!

Anyway, I just finished reading through all of King's fiction in chronological order (took me a couple of years!) and now I'm eagerly awaiting Revival this fall. It's amazing to me how much "Uncle Stevie's" work has been a part of my life as I am now a wife and mother. I look forward to checking out some of his recommendations and the book discussions here!

Revival looks to be promising. I can't wait to read what he's got in store for us.

I have another favorite of mine, and his: A Simple Plan by Scott Smith. King said of it, "Read this book. It is better than any suspense novel since The Silence of the Lambs." I can't find fault in that. It is as close to a perfect book that there is.

I've added A Simple Plan to my wish list. It sounds intriguing!

Thanks for the tip. I've added to my shelves.

Lydia, I totally agree with what you said about Uncle Steve! Welcome to the group. I hope you will enjoy reading his recommendations with us.
John, thanks for the blurb to A Simple Plan. I added it to my review. And welcome to our group!

Hi Mike! Welcome to the group. Feel free to start in on any of our 2 current group reads. They end April 30th, but that doesn't mean you can't contribute to the discussion after the fact.
You will find many avid King fans here, so you are amongst like-minded folk!

I hope I made some sense, I'm very tired right now, so it could all be babble.

My name is Jazzmine and I love to read. I have read all but three of King's books. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. I first read Liseys Story when I was 12 (much to my mother's horror) and have been hooked since. I am a member of other bookclubs here on Goodreads but this is the first SK bookclub I have joined. I'm so excited to get reading!

Thank you Debra! Glad to be here!

I have been re-reading some of my favorite SK books and especially enjoyed re-reading The Stand and The Shining, two of my favorites. I was much younger on the first read and reading them now, I can see things that I did not fully appreciate as a younger reader. Happy re-reading!!

Debra, I'd be interested in reading more of his essays---is there a source where I can find them? I don't see one on this message board.

Will Patton is my favorite too! You should give James Lee Burke's audiobooks in the Dave Robicheaux series a try--Patton is amazing!
Stephanie and Larissa! Welcome. Sorry I didn't notice you'd popped in here sooner. Love to have more SK fans here! Hope to hear from you in one of our group reads.

I've been meaning to mention this for a while, but for some reason, this thread is never marked with the red "new" when there are new messages in it. Does anyone get the red flag, or am I the only one who doesn't?
