The topic itself. I see the red new on your message as well. But the thread didn't show that there was a new message. The other part of the problem is that once I read this thread, I click on "unread" and it will be showing in the unread messages, and will stay there until I click "mark all read". The way I get around this problem is that I am following this thread so get notifications. I'll let Goodreads know next week. Right now, I'm off to a quilt retreat.

Hi, new here. I'm a long time Stephen King fan. Me and Stephen King go way back... (Way way back, lol). I read a lot and am interested in many different types of books, so I'd like to read the books one of my favorite authors finds worthy.Ive recently been rereading some of Stephen King's classics and have to say they still hold up and are still scary. Last month I read Salem's Lot and it gave me nightmares! The Stand is my favorite book of all time.

My name is Sam. I have joined GoodReads before but was never active. I decided I'd like to make some online friends with similar interests. Stephen King is my favorite modern author (Charles Dickens is my favorite classical author) I love to read though now that my daughter is nearing the terrible twos I'm finding myself having to stay up after she goes to bed to get any real reading done. In hoping when she starts preschool next year I'll have more time to read.

I'm Janaya , I'm a huge Steven king fan and horror genre fan, be it film literature or even music. (Metal head, some might find this horrific ) I'm looking for new recommendations as I'm finding it hard to find anything that truly is sucking me in like I wish to be. Hopefully the king should know of something to satisfy.

Hi. I'm Claire and love the tales Mr King tells me. I am a constant reader as well as a Constant Reader, and of the three or four books usually on the go, it's a safe bet one of them was written by him.

Greetings and Salutations! My name is Kristina and I am from Clinton Township, MI. Ever since I was little I have loved reading Stephen King books as well as other books in the genre. I think SK is a very intelligent man, very insightful and I respect his work and opinions as well as enjoy reading his imaginative workings. I have always wanted to be apart of a book club but not everyone I know shares my reading interests plus I keep a busy schedule. I am always looking for recommendations and love to be scared.

I came across Stephen King's books almost 20 years ago and I have read almost every book he wrote (I need to fill the gaps)
Also, even though I am a belgian, I enjoy some US beers (among others), I love cinema and to travel (when I can afford)

Hi, I'm John Wood, one of the authors on this site. I can honestly say that every single book I've read that Stephen King has recommended has been stellar. Since ebola is in the news again, do NOT miss The Hot Zone, which King called "One of the most horrifying things I've ever read." It's not fiction; it's much scarier.

Hi there! I'm Lydia from Pasadena, TX (just outside of Houston). I've been an avid reader since childhood but did not pick up my first King novel until my early years of college. My first novel was The Stand. I fell in love with King's ability to write true to life characters that leap off the page and stay with you long after the story ends. This totally surprised me since I had always been under the impression that King was just a writer of scary stories. I can now say that he is my all-time favorite author. I love his generosity and his down-to-earth perspectives on life.Anyway, I just finished reading through all of King's fiction in chronological order (took me a couple of years!) and now I'm eagerly awaiting Revival this fall. It's amazing to me how much "Uncle Stevie's" work has been a part of my life as I am now a wife and mother. I look forward to checking out some of his recommendations and the book discussions here!
Welcome, Lydia. One of my friends is currently rereading his way King's catalogue. I'm finally going to start The Dark Tower series. Revival looks to be promising. I can't wait to read what he's got in store for us.
Stephen King loves mysteries, but the biggest mystery is how he finds the time to read so much stuff and then write so much stuff. I think there must be ten of him, only one that we ever see.I have another favorite of mine, and his: A Simple Plan by Scott Smith. King said of it, "Read this book. It is better than any suspense novel since The Silence of the Lambs." I can't find fault in that. It is as close to a perfect book that there is.

Hello everyone, my names is Reenie and I've been reading King since school, he wrote my first proper adult book (Carrie) that I read when I was about 10/11 years old. Since then, if I've ever fallen out with reading, a King book has got me back in the game. He's such a talented author, so I can only hope the books that he recommends are nearly as good as some of his. Another reason I joined was to be around more people who have a similar taste in books. I hope I made some sense, I'm very tired right now, so it could all be babble.

I first read Liseys Story when I was 12 (much to my mother's horror) and have been hooked since. I am a member of other bookclubs here on Goodreads but this is the first SK bookclub I have joined. Hello and welcome,I have been re-reading some of my favorite SK books and especially enjoyed re-reading The Stand and The Shining, two of my favorites. I was much younger on the first read and reading them now, I can see things that I did not fully appreciate as a younger reader. Happy re-reading!!
Dolores, if you just re read The Shining, you should follow up with Dr. Sleep.
Yes, I loved Dr. Sleep. I was a little worried about liking that one, since I LOVED The Shining, but it was wonderful. I have just finished listening to Finders, Keepers. Really loved it, and it is a little different but then SK always surprises us. It is narrated by my favorite narrator, Will Patton. Have you listened to any SK on audible??
Hi, I'm Larissa from Bowling Green, KY. I've read Stephen King since I was in junior high probably. I've also read his On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft--great insight into how he became a writer and his thinking behind the craft. I also enjoy seeing his essays published in various places, like The NY Times book reviews or when he wrote for Entertainment Weekly a few years back. Debra, I'd be interested in reading more of his essays---is there a source where I can find them? I don't see one on this message board.
