Hi! My name is BJ and I live near Pittsburgh with my husband and two teenage sons. SK has been my favorite author since I was in middle school. My Aunt gave me his books after she was done reading them and my Mother never minded that they were for adults. I now have discovered his son Joe Hill's books and I am currently reading NOS4A2. I also adore Anne Rice books.

We are glad to have you BJ. I bet you are going to love NOS4A2. Pop in and join our discussion threads about it. It's the current group read!
Hello everyone, I'm Britt and I am brand new to Good Reads. This is the first group I've joined and I'm looking forward to participating in the group read of "Dark Places". (I've already started it and I can't put it down.) I'm an avid reader, especially of horror, thrillers and dark comedies. I've only read two Stephen King novels (The Shining and Under the Dome) but I loved both. I even had the pleasure of attending the UTD television series premiere where SK participated in a Q&A with the producers and actors and he was a hoot! Anyways, thanks for having me!
Britt, that is AWESOME that you were able to attend the premier, and we are so glad you will be joining in on our Dark Places group read. I'll be setting up the discussion threads as soon as I can get my hands on a copy of the book.
Welcome aboard!
Welcome aboard!
Hello all! I've been a fan of SK since high school after children of the corn and pet cemetery. Lately my current SK favs have been 11/22/63, Duma Key, Under the Dome and Joyland. Also was a huge fan of his EW column, so I was sooooo happy to find this group. His picks usually thrill me and I live them so! Especially Gillian Flynn, Linwood Barclay and now his son, Joe Hill. I'm even reading his daughter-in-law's book, Save Yourself right now. I love all things SK! Amazing man.
Hello, I'm Yulia. I love King's books. Cause he's a great writer I think he will recommend books worth reading. I'm looking forward to reading and discussing in the group.
Yulia! Welcome to our group. Looking forward to hearing more from you in our discussion threads.
Hi Everyone! Nice to meet you. I'm an author who writes about writing and spirituality and also has a YA novel currently residing with her agent. I started writing paranormal fiction after a dream in which Stephen King advised me to. I tell people that "Stephen King appeared to me in a dream," although I doubt SK is actually traveling around on the astral plane advising writers.
That's kind of cool, Jill. I wish you success - you've got SK himself backing you, it seems. And welcome to our group!

Hi, I'm Roz. I know some of you from another group. I found out that you're reading Dark Places this month. I just started it yesterday and I'm completely drawn in. I've also been reading Stephen King for years and am curious to see what books and authors he recommends.
Hey Roz! Didn't know you knew anything about our group. It's a nice surprise to have you joining in.
Oh, Debra, of course I knew about the group. I've been thinking about joining in for a while, and when I found out from Janice that you were discussing Dark Places I hopped in. Hope you don't mind, I've checked out your sai-king-recommends booklist and there's lots there that's going to extend my tbr shelf.
I really have to quit adding so many new books to my Kindle, I will never find the time to get to them all! I keep thinking about my lonely Kindle while I am at work :)
My name is Tia, I'm 25 and I live in central Indiana. I just joined the group because I was looking for a new group to have a place to discuss my new Gillian Flynn obsession. And I seen your monthly group read right now was Dark Places and I'm about 50 pages into it right now. So it seemed like fate! LOL. I just finished Sharp Objects a few days ago and wanted so badly to have a group to discuss that book with, but hadn't seen this club yet! So, I'm happy I found you guys and hope to find more discussions on Gillian Flynn and maybe some rec's for authors who are similar to her! :)

I know the problem. I keep my Kindle in my purse and read whenever I have the chance. Waiting at the doctor's office? Taking a break? In line at the bank? Got my Kindle out.
Welcome to the group, Tia. We are looking forward to your comments regarding Dark Places. There are many Gillian Flynn fans in this group. I've enjoyed all her books. She pulls not punches!
Thanks for the welcome, Debra! I am enjoying talking to everyone so far! Everyone has been very welcoming and talkative! :D
Hello - I'm new to the group. I heard about it through another group (in which the mods of this group are also in - hello Debra and Almeta!). I read Misery in my late teens and while I really enjoyed it, it took me an absolute age to read it but back then I wasn't the avid reader I am now. I tried a couple other King books of the back of this one (The Stand and The Green Mile) but I had already seen the films for both and I found myself comparing them too much and gave up on reading them.
15 years on, I was drawn to read 11/22/63 and it was this book which steered me back to reading King. I will definitely be going back to read the books I had previously abandoned now!
I am also enjoying his son, Joe Hill's work too. Looking forward to reading some books which are recommended by Stephen King.
Hey Sarah! So great to see you here. Glad to hear you've found a renewed interest in King's books.
If you want, come join us in our group read, Dark Places. We are reading it through 10/31. It's a goody!

Thanks Debra. I've not read any books by Gillian Flynn before although a few of them are on my wishlist. I have just bought Dark Places for my kindle so I will join in the discussion.

Hi Sarah. Welcome to the "club". I tried King repeatedly, never getting past the first three pages of a dozen or so novels.
All that changed after reading the first line of The Gunslinger. Now I'm hooked. After completing the Dark Tower series I immediately moved to Under the Dome. Next it was the Stand.
Did I mention I'm hooked?

I had a similar experience. I just couldn't get into King's writing--and then got hooked. I loved the Gunslinger series, even the volumes that some readers hated.
Debra wrote: "I think the Dark Tower series is my favorite of all King's books. It is his magnum opus!"I agree.
I love that series passionately. Taking them all as one story...yeah, it might just be my favorite King. Separating them, there'd be at least four in my top twenty King books.
I've only read a few King books (Rose Madder, Gerald's Game, a few more that I can't remember) and my all-time favorite is Bag of Bones. Looooooooove that book. So. Much. I've read it at least 5 times all the way through and I've seen the Bag of Bones 2 part TV mini-series with Pierce Brosnan at least 15 times. It's just something about the mystery of it. Even though I know what's going to happen, it still sucks me in. LOL
Bag of Bones is definitely a great book and I've read it at least 2 times. I also enjoyed the mini-series. Sounds like you are really hooked! lol

I'm a fan of SK and am curious what books he would recommend (although I know the ones mentioned in "On Writing.")Michael E. Henderson
Hi I am Tamera, live in Illinois, love Stephen King, I have read all his books, some a few times. When I started reading I felt guilty when I read anyone else. Thankfully I learned there are other great writers, but King is still my first true love. This is a great Idea. I am new to good reads just trying to figure it out, at this point.

Tamara, it takes a while to get used to GoodReads. Just take your time and don't be afraid to ask questions. King is also my first really horror love, so I know what you mean! Welcome to the group.

Hi All,I am a die-hard king fan living on the East Coast. Since my mom started telling me bed time stories about Roland chasing the man in black I have been hooked. I love king but am very open to other Authors/genres. Any suggestions on a good book is always welcome.

Welcome, Paul.
Welcome Paul. Check out the group's bookshelves. There's one specifically devoted to books that Stephen King has recommended. Also, we're in the middle of voting for our next group read that will start November 1st. The group reads are a great way to be introduced to new writers and genres.
Hello! After a many-years gap with no Stephen King, I got 11/22/63. How could I forget what a storyteller he is? I'm hooked again - and really interested in his novels and the novels he recommends. I think this is going to be a lot of fun!
Hi!Now I'm stalking you, Victoria, hahaha!
I've had this book for a while, bit decided to start reading it today because it is 11/22/13! Wow, it's been 50 years since that day in 1963. I'm showing my age, but I remember being in kindergarten, school was closed and my mom was ironing clothes by the TV set and made me come watch JFK's funeral, saying, "this is history..."
Anyway, I have read many, many Stephen King books and thought this would be a fun group to join.
Hi Terry! I was just about 9 months old. And it's an awesome book - it's so hard to put down. Lots of twists in this one. He weaves a fine tale.
Hey there - Happy Friday to all of you!I wanted to hit you up to share a digital campaign that we recently launched in support of Stephen King's new novel - and sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep. As a leading Stephen King fan board I thought your visitors & members might really get a kick out of this.
The campaign allows visitors to user their smartphones to "shine" with the now adult Danny Torrance, years after fleeing the Overlook Hotel with his mother at the end of The Shining.
If you have a moment we'd love to know what you think (tech requires Chrome) :

Thanks in advance - let me know if you have any questions or thoughts to share.

Hello!I am Isabella and I started reading Stephen King's books when I was 13 and someone lent me a copy of Carrie. It was love at first chapter! Since then I spent many hours enjoying his great novels and thanks to him I discovered Ketchum, Laymon and Straub.
Horror is one of my favourite genres, but I read a bit of everything, as long as it has a good plot/subject.
Horror is one of my favorite genres, too, Isabella. Welcome to our group.
Welcome to everyone, in case I missed anybody. We are a laid-back group with great group reads. We are reading Heart-Shaped Box and The Killer Inside Me through the end of December. Hope more folks choose to join us!

My name is Sandy and I live north of Boston. A few years ago I found a reading list in the back of a magazine, a list of what Mr. King was reading. I carried that list around in my wallet for a good couple of years. The best author I garnered from the list was Robert Goddard. I remember King saying he had to slow down reading them because he wanted to savor them, he was gobbling them up too fast. Since then, if Stephen King told me he loved baloney and whipped cream sandwiches, I'd probably be having one for suppah tonight!
