Philip Whiteland - the man behind Josiah and Archibald (which makes it sound like we're in a queue!)
Charlotte's come up trumps again, with this brilliant review for

This month's Derby Telegraph article about an old flame ;-) https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...
Jim wrote: "nice one Philip"Thanks Jim. The joy of the memoir, as I'm sure you've discovered, is that you don't have to make anything up and that truth is stranger than fiction!
Very true. There have been three instances in my (more realistic) fiction where I've been accused of stretching plausibility too far, but all three incidents were based on real events.
This month's Derby Telegraph article explains why I owe Ted Heath (no, not the bandleader) a pint!http://philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk/2...
I was a mere nipper in the 70's. It probably affected my pocket money. Of course, Ted Heath had less influence on Ireland. We had our own problems.

Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "What, extinct?"You might think that, I couldn't possibly comment!
Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "Well you're still managing to post, so things can't be that bad."Ask an ammonite
Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "Isn't that one of those religious groups?"No, you're thinking of The Joystrings (and that's showing my age)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pFu5...Well well. I never heard of them. Maybe because they are from before I was born.

They abandoned their original name of The G-Strings for some reason
I always knew there would be a reversal of roles between parent and child at some point, I just hadn't quite expected it yet :-)http://philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk/2...
Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "And where is your hat now?"Back in the wardrobe. Rather unusually, I counted them all out and I counted them back in again.
I have this mental picture of a neat queue of hats standing waiting to be checked into the wardrobe!

Remember that business with our local cafe and the missing steak pie? Well...http://philwhiteland.blogspot.co.uk/2...
So is it just a conceptual Steak Pie? Or has there at any stage been an actual Steak Pie. With all this uncertainty, it may be a Heisenberg Pie.
Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "So is it just a conceptual Steak Pie? Or has there at any stage been an actual Steak Pie. With all this uncertainty, it may be a Heisenberg Pie."Ah, you mean like performance art, where the absence of the steak pie is the concept?

Well more that until you open the fridge, there may or may not be a pie in there. When you open the fridge you collapse the wave form.
Or... you can either have your pie or eat it!

Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "I can't remember what I said now. Probably wasn't worth reading anyway."Oh tish!
Philip wrote: "Is this like 'is the light still on when you shut the fridge door'?..."Never a problem if you remove the little bulb every time you close the door. Keep a plastic cup taped to the refrigerator door for it, and you, too, can live the rest of your life without this huge worry.
It requires a tiny bit of manual labour every time you go for a snack (so, good for weight reduction), but the peace of mind is amazing.

The simplest solutions are often the best ;-)
Jim wrote: "I like that story :-)"They must have been doing something in all that time and that sounds as likely to me as anything else ;-)

Regarding which, try this for size:

Ouch! I use Dublin Bus quite a bit, and they are much better than that. There was one occasion though, when I wasn't paying attention, and I suddenly looked up to see that I was travelling towards mountains. Which was rather worrying, as I live in the flat bit in north Dublin, and the mountains were in the south bit. And the time I was visiting friends right down in the south bit, where the bus was every hour, and it just went right past the stop, in spite of several of us frantically waving as it sailed serenely past. We all had to wait another hour for the next one. And then there was the driver who was about 102, who refused to go more than 20 mph, even on empty roads. And the time I was reading and had headphones in, and failed to notice that everyone else had got off the bus and onto another one.....
