Christie (cereale) I thought that it might be a good idea as the group keeps getting bigger to start introducing ourselves so we can get to know one another. Include the last book you finished (any genre) and your favorite paranormal author, so we can start to get a feel of what everyone's tastes are.

My name is Christie. I work at the Kannapolis Library as most of you know. I like many different genres of books including paranormal, nonfiction, young adult, historical fiction, and fantasy. The last book I read was Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin which is a historical mystery. My favorite paranormal author is Molly Harper. Her books include Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs and How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf which are quite hilarious.

The library has both series. They are really good.

Mary Wenner | 6 comments Sounds like a good idea...
I'm Mary and I work in medical billing. I like many different genres of books also, but mostly mysteries, romance, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy. I just read a historical romance called [Book:Reckless|7715163] by Anne Stuart, I am now reading Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris (yes I know I'm late reading that one, but I was waiting for a copy from the library). My favorite paranormal author is Kim Harrison, although I definately love Katie MacAlistertoo. I love this group because it's giving me all kinds of ideas of what to read next...

Peaches (princesspeaches) | 94 comments I'm Tina, a pregnant SAHM of two currently on bed rest. I've loved supernatural books since I was a kid (R.L. Stine anyone?), and moved on to bigger stuff in 6th grade at the encouragement of a teacher.

My favorite authors are currently Katie MacAlister and Jennifer Estep. I don't see that changing any time soon!

message 6: by Erik (new)

Erik | 97 comments Been a SF/Fantasy nerd since my dad got me my very own Lord for the Rings for Christmas when I was nine. Living through the Star Wars craze in early elementary school probably helped.

Started reading paranormaly books as an offshoot of urban fantasy (is there a difference between the genres?). If there is, my favorite author is Kim Harrison, if not, it'sJim Butcher.

Just finished Season of Mists by Neil Gaiman and am currently working my way through the rest of The Sandman graphic novels, and the Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold

I am currently reading Nalini Singhs latest. I have been on a young adult kick here lately. I feel that ya is where it is at right now for fantasy and paranormal. We have recently added alot of ya to our collection and my bookshelf is waaay too full. I am looking forward to Jennifer Esteps young adult book that is coming out soon!

I've heard that Hamilton's newest book will actually be good! Hopefully it will be like the first few instead of the last ones

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily (librarylil) | 54 comments I'm Emily and I'm the newest staff member at the Kannapolis Library. I read mostly fiction written for teens or kids; I rarely read what I call "grown-up book."

I read a little bit of everything but my favorite genres are fantasy and contemporary fiction, with the occasional historical fiction and non-fiction book thrown in. Within fantasy, I especially like fairy-tale and mythology retellings. About a third of the fantasy I read tends to fall into the paranormal category, but I just seek out stories that sound interesting with characters I like. And bonus points for good humor!

I just finished "The Time-Traveling Fashionista" and am currently reading "Cloaked" which is a reworking of many different fairy tales. In terms of the paranormal, I recently fell in love with Rachel Hawkins' "Hex Hall" series. I also do a lot of audiobooks. I am currently listening to Keith Richards’ autobiography and parts of it are read by Johnny Depp.

message 13: by Peaches (new)

Peaches (princesspeaches) | 94 comments I just put the Hex Halls on hold! So, they are good?

message 32: by LaNita (new)

LaNita (lanita_lynn) Hi! I'm LaNita! I have lived in Kannapolis for a little over 3 years now. Originally from Bassett, VA (near Martinsville). Went into the Army, married a fellow Soldier and became a military wife after that. After 16 1/2 years, I lost my husband in Iraq in 2006. After a few years at Ft. Hood, TX I needed a change of scenery... On a visit to Mooresville (yes I am a NASCAR fan) I felt like I had come home. I found a house in Kannapolis I love and here I am! After years of the Army moving us around, I am finally putting down roots. This is my FIRST book club! Going to have to pop in at the library and get a card!!

As for what I read...I used to read a LOT of historical romance, then while in college I read TOO MUCH history. Literally took a couple years off from reading after that! I started reading again this year. Tried reading romance again but I guess my tastes have changed! I read paranormal, sci fi, horror and mystery now. I think I just love a GOOD "dark" book!

Thanks for letting me join!
