J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Welcome Germaine! And I agree wholeheartedly on several counts - there are some stonking reviewers on here and a lot of them seem to be in this group.

So tell us a bit about what you write?

Germaine, I LOVED your love letter to reviewers. They are very unappreciated and so necessary to an author's success.

Germaine Shames (germaineshames) | 38 comments Thanks, Jenn, Cassie, J.A. and Jennifer. I am dashing this off as I pack for Europe. In answer to J.A.'s question, I am primarily a literary novelist and also write for the Big Screen. My author page on Goodreads lists some of my books. Wishing you all a productive week!

Hi, Deb -

I'm relatively new with this group - and enjoying myself - and I am wondering if you are still looking for a reviewer?

Would you be able to send me an actual book, please? (No eReader here!)

I would be honoured to review your book - and I see by your website you have other books.

You are welcome to visit my blog:

please email me at: madley (AT) cogeco (DOT) ca

I look forward to hearing from you,

Even if I kept a copy I still have to pay for that copy then add shipping to the reviewer, its a loss not a gain. An ereader, pdr, .doc whatever file is better because it doesnt cost me any money to order or send.

Patricia | 170 comments One of the things that attracted me to Book Blogging and Reviewing Books, is the fact that no compensation is exchanged. The Reviewer just loves to read!

I agree with Stephanie, I would be careful, very careful. I checked the link and it contains so many red flags, I regret even clicking on it.

Any one charging for a review is someone just looking to make a quick buck or two. There is no reason an author should pay anyone for a review - EVER.

message 109: by C.S. Splitter (new)

C.S. Splitter | 979 comments Slightly different train of thought:

I am actually a bit offended by Amazon's review policy. It states that if the reviewer received the book at no charge in exchange for the review, it had to be stated in the review.

First...how would they know?

Second....I don't see professional reviewers (newspaper, etc..) disclosing how they received their copy of a book. You know good and well that they often get promotional copies sent to them by the publisher.

I dunno, it just seems like they are implying that reviewers who get no-charge copies are somehow influenced by that fact.

Kate | 38 comments Hi - I've so many books desperately seeking reviews. I have sent out so many free e-copies for review but rarely anything back. I do appreciate reviewers are busy but some of my copies have been out for months. Anyway, if you think you're interested in contemporary/quirky/gritty/literary fiction, then do please do bear me in mind.

Many thanks!

David Santos (authordas) AS I said I dont like amazon reviewers. Their review on your amazon book page will look nice, but I honestly don't think it'll help, unless amazon promotes the book somewhere. They can't rate, only review.

I think I have only mentioned it in a few reviews. My thought process is the same as yours, Splitter. How would they know. The answer is, they don't. And I don't know about anyone else, but I am not influenced what-so-ever about how I got the book. If I love the book, I may be a bit happier if I got it in paperback rather than e-format, but that is about it. LOL

And David, the rules that Splitter is talking about are rules that Amazon put up for ANYONE who is choosing to post a review on the site. Say I read your book, and you sent me a copy of it free to review. Amazon is stating that I have to put the fact that you gave me a free copy of it in my review. It has nothing to do with the review Amazon actually provides for the authors who send the books in to them for review.

Ann Werner (writingfool) | 40 comments So many folders here! Thought I'd post my request for reviewers here as well. My novel Dreams and Nightmares was recently released and I'm ready to get some buzz going. I'll be happy to send a paperback or a pdf - not yet in e-book format but will be in a few weeks. It's a thriller.

Hi Ann and Kate!

There is a folder in here called authors looking for reviewers. You can make your own topic for your book(s) so you can make sure it doesn't get lost in the jumble of posts on this topic! :)

Ann, could you share a link to your book with us as well?

Hi, Kate -

Your frustration is clear - and I certainly understand - I would be frustrated, also.

Do you have any of your books in paper format? i.e. a real book? I do not have an eReader and reading pdf type files off my laptop is ok, but limits my mobility.

My queue for reading is toward the end of Sept., but if you could send me an actual book, I would be happy to review for you.

Please email me at:

Hope to hear from you, Kate.

Hi there, I'd definitely be interested in checking it out (I'm such a sucker for dystopian fiction) and doing a proper review. I don't have an e-reader yet though, so I was wondering if you could present me with your text another way? If that's too much fuss I'd totally understand, though.

On the right hand side of the screen just underneath the box that lets you look at the group events, go back to the group home page, etc is a place where you can do a search through all of the posts here in Creative Reviews. You can type in your name, the title of the book, or the title of the post, and it should take you to anything that has those key words in it. I hope that helps! :)

My Shorter Oxford English Dictionary doesn't mention the word "dystopian". Can anyone tell me what it means? Is it an American expression?

message 126: by Amy Eye (new)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
Here is a good definition that I got from Wikipedia:

is the idea of a society in a repressive and controlled state, often under the guise of being utopian, as characterized in books like Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Dystopian societies feature different kinds of repressive social control systems, various forms of active and passive coercion. Ideas and works about dystopian societies often explore the concept of humans abusing technology and humans individually and collectively coping, or not being able to properly cope with technology that has progressed far more rapidly than humanity's spiritual evolution. Dystopian societies are often imagined as police states, with unlimited power over the citizens.

It's a YA tale of a farming family escaping Nebraska when the supervolcano in Yellowstone blows. Kyle Stiff (kylebstiff) Would anyone like to review my sci-fi "choose your own adventure" book?

It takes place in an era when humans have pretty much given up on finding meaning in life. When an imperialistic alien species attacks, humanity barely puts up any fight at all. The main character, however, is a "human fanatic" fighting in a last-ditch guerilla war against the invaders. He's not a superheroic badass, but he is determined and driven and more than a little unbalanced.

Be warned: There are a few graphic action sequences!

If anyone is interested, you can check out the book here:

And you can check out the blog here:
http://heavymetalthunderseries.wordpr...

Also, I'll give out a Smashwords coupon to anyone who promises to write an Amazon review for Heavy Metal Thunder. Glowing review, hateful review, doesn't matter... honesty is fine, I can take it!

Chrystalla Hi guys, new to this group. I have published a YA science fiction novel called Rex Rising.

Blurb: In a world where parasites create new human races, Elei leads a peaceful life as an aircar driver — until a mysterious attack on his boss sends him fleeing with a bullet in his side. Pursued for a secret he does not possess and with the fleet at his heels, he has but one thought: to stay alive. His pursuers aren’t inclined to sit down and talk, although that’s not the end of Elei’s troubles. The two powerful parasites inhabiting his body, at a balance until now, choose this moment to bring him down, leaving Elei with no choice but to trust in people he hardly knows in a mad race against time. It won’t be long before he realizes he must find out this deadly secret – a secret that might change the fate of his world and everything he has ever known – or die trying.

If anyone is interested to review, I can send it to you as prc or pdf.

I am new here, and will be checking out your books as well. :)
