message 1852: by Paul (new)

Paul Lannuier (ww2pt) | 27 comments I just started Provenance, and I’m about 2/3 done with The Affinities. Last night I finished The Stars Are Legion.

message 1854: by Paul (new)

Paul Lannuier (ww2pt) | 27 comments Finished The Affinities (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️), slogging my way through Provenance (not liking it as much as I did Leckie’s Ancillary trilogy), and I’m almost halfway through The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu which I am loving!

message 1857: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Murrell I’m excited to start The Last Commander. The first book in the series was amazing.

The Last Commander (The Galactic Crusade Trilogy Book 2) by Pablo Andrés Wunderlich Padilla

message 1858: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 40 comments I am reading The Boy on the Bridge

message 1859: by Allan (new)

Allan Phillips Finished Dreamsnake by Vonda McIntyre this morning and about to finish Altered Carbon. So I started Roadside Picnic by Arkady Strugatsky (sp?) on Audible and Not This August by CM Kornbluth. Got a couple others I can finish in the next few days, so I've got the group series read teed up.

message 1860: by Thieryn (new)

Thieryn | 2 comments @Allan what did you think of Dreamsnake? It's one I have had on my bookshelf for a while, and haven't had the motivation to prioritize it yet.

I finished the first book of the Bobiverse a few days ago, We Are Legion (We Are Bob) (Bobiverse, #1) by Dennis E. Taylor . It was my first audiobook and well worth it.

Currently I am reading Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, Welcome to Night Vale, and Watchmen

message 1861: by MadProfessah (new)

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 76 comments I loved THE BOY ON THE BRISGE!! I hope he writes a 3rd one to make it a trilogy.

message 1862: by Allan (new)

Allan Phillips @Saha: As a Hugo/Nebula double winner, Dreamsnake got on my radar. You see more straight sci-fi than fantasy in that list, so it intrigued me. I did the audiobook as it was somewhat shorter, suited to my driving routine. I found it to be very solid fantasy, somewhat predictable, but with a few adult moments that lifted it and made it unique and distinct. Most fantasy of this type that I've read was written by men, so having a female author and protagonist was refreshing. I'd recommend it, and it's not a lengthy commitment like a lot of fantasy can be. Hope that helps!

message 1863: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just started reading Starship Grifters by Robert Kroese last night -- laugh out loud funny!!!

Mary Catelli | 659 comments Kirsten wrote: "I just started reading Starship Grifters by Robert Kroese last night -- laugh out loud funny!!!"

Yeah, that is a comic series.

message 1865: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I'm loving it. The callouts to classic sci-fi plot tropes is so funny.

message 1866: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Murrell Kirsten wrote: "I just started reading Starship Grifters by Robert Kroese last night -- laugh out loud funny!!!"

I read and loved all three books. I thought the prequel novel was the best.

message 1867: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Oh, didn't know there was a prequel. I'm definitely loving it. I do like it when authors poke fun at their own genre.

Reading the series in publication order works fine. Better than in-universe order, at that.

Jennifer | 40 comments MadProfessah wrote: "I loved THE BOY ON THE BRISGE!! I hope he writes a 3rd one to make it a trilogy."

Really? I am enjoying it, but not sure if I like it as much as The Girl With All the Gifts

Allan Phillips Just finished Roadside Picnic after reading VALIS as part of the group series read. About 40% through Ancillary Justice and have started Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and Slan. I know, I have about 7 books going at the same time, that's just the way I read.

message 1880: by MadProfessah (new)

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 76 comments @Paul SATURN RUN is surprisingly good!

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I added these two books to my Currently Reading pile:

Clyde (wishamc) MadProfessah wrote: "I just did a DNF on CJ Cherry DOWNBELOW STATION after slogging through about 200 of 500 pages."

Whoa! That bad?
I have read "Downbelow Station" three times and still think it is one of the best SF novels ever. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

message 1886: by Allan (new)

Allan Phillips Watch out reading The Eye of the World! You will get hooked, then two years later, you'll wake up after finishing all 15 books! Really glad Sanderson finished it!

message 1887: by CD (new)

CD | 112 comments I have started Blackfish City by Sam J. Miller.

message 1888: by Allan (new)

Allan Phillips Finished Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie last night, and will finish Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep tonight. About halfway through Van Vogt's Slan and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Inspiration for what to take up next has not hit me yet, although Dan Simmons' Song of Kali and Consider Phlebas are possibilities.

message 1889: by Scott (new)

Scott Song of Kali is great.

message 1891: by MadProfessah (new)

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 76 comments @Clyde yeah I find that fascinating how different folks can have such disparate reactions to the same text. What other sci fi books do you like? I can’t believe you’ve rad DOWNBELOW STATION three times! I rarely ever re-read but I have re-read some of DUNE (Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse:Dune) three times.

My favorite sci fi author is Peter Hamilton (The Night’s Dawn trilogy).

I’m currently reading the last book in Justin Cronin’s THE PASSAGE trilogy, THE CITY OF MIRRORS.

message 1892: by Brian (new)

Brian | 2 comments Reading Poe's Gold Bug, then onto The Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley.

Scott I am reading Red Sister by Mark Lawrence, the monthly pick for my real life book club.

message 1894: by Paul (new)

Paul Lannuier (ww2pt) | 27 comments I’ve finished The Long Earth (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) and Sleeping Giants (⭐️⭐️⭐️); still working on Saturn Run, and started The Player of Games late last night.

message 1895: by MadProfessah (new)

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 76 comments @paul what did you like about THE LONG EARTH?

message 1896: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) The Collapsing Empire.

I know I should be finishing Old Man's War series first before starting a new Scalzi series, but I really have to read this before the Hugos.

message 1897: by Silvana (new)

Now your post makes sense. I read iit on my phone last night. Unfortunately it has a tendency to chop words from posts.

message 1899: by Allan (new)

Allan Phillips I know I'm being a dinosaur here but how do you quote someone and how do you insert book links?

message 1900: by Allan (new)

Allan Phillips Finished Song of Kali (Dan Simmons) & Slan (A.E. van Vogt) yesterday. Started in on The Martian Chronicles to quickly knock out that classic.
