You can post this in share your ideas folder. Personally, I don't even know what it means. Perhaps our eclectic readers may help.

Harsh Kumar (harshkumar) | 24 comments To be precise , I do not have any big expectations. I am sure that I will enjoy myself among all the readers here. All I am looking forward to friendship and books. I have been looking at the threads here and they all seem to be awesome. welcome, all.
Thank you, Aditya
By the way, this group is teeming with Adityas...
Soon we are going to have identity crisis :D :)

message 169: by Rian (new)

Rian Nejar (riannejar) I think this sentiment by Col. Smith, "...discovering/rediscovering our motherland... via the voices of her children" expresses a heartfelt expectation.

Otherwise...as a reader/writer, interesting authors and books to read, inspiring ideas to write about, and in any group, gregarious interaction and camaraderie as is human nature.

And to help resolve social conflict, as even bacteria in colonies do... :-)

Sumit Sharma (digitalsumit) | 12 comments Hi everyone,

Feels great to be a part of goodreads and looking for active discussion with like minded people and hopping to achieve my goal for 2015 to read 10 books on entrepreneurship, startups and marketing. Recommendations are welcome :)

Thanks

All the best, Sum it. :-)

message 172: by Pranjali (new)

Pranjali | 4634 comments Hii,
I just joined the group, so don't have any suggestions maybe latter. I don't have many friends who read much, which is very sad because after a good book (or even a bad one), i really want to discuss it, talk about the story. characters and everything else. so that's why i am here.

message 173: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
Pranjali, we are too keen to discuss books. You can just state your opinion in the various forums here. You are welcome to. :)

Just saw this, Col. Smith...what part of my answer to "Newbie corner - what do you expect from this group?" did you find less comprehensible? Perhaps the last sentence, linking to a recent research article on self-organization of bacterial colonies for optimal survival? That's a metaphor for how groups with the simplest of shared intentions come up with structure and written/unwritten rules so as to ensure sustainability, and an allusion to my own writing that attempts to bridge cultures and genders in the midst of social confusion and conflict. Complicated, I agree! :-)

Forgive me...should've said: "Just an indirect reference to what I write about." But you might think I write about bacteria...

Barbara Tarn (barbaragtarn) I just joined, so I'm not sure if and where I could do this. I do not wish to spam anyone with my books, but sometimes I need beta-reader (as fact-checker mostly) for my story. Would it be all right to open a thread under the writerly thread requesting beta-readers for unpublished stories?

You can add a new discussion in this folder: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

There is the promotion folder if you want to promote your books: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

message 182: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Tarn (barbaragtarn) beta-reading is not really a review - it's before publishing! :) I'll post in the review folders when the book is out...

Barbara, for now you can create a thread titled beta reading in review folder itself. As of now we don't have a separate folder for that
thanks dely, as I always say, you are an honorary mod of this group :-)

Sorry, I didn't read carefully! I know GR is plenty of groups for authors that are looking for beta-readers and readers that like to do it. Maybe you can look for them.

Thank you! I was thinking I wouldn't get a reply until tomorrow either! :)
I will start the thread like you suggest... I hope to find people who can help me write better stories! :)

message 194: by Debra (new)

Debra Schoenberger Hi everyone,

I am looking for someone who has the intestinal fortitude to read and review a philosophy / political book. The epub/pdf is available internationally for free (203 pages). If you live in the USA or Canada, a free print copy is available. If you have a book blog that's even better!

Here is the link to the book:

http://www.ireadbooktours.com/blog---...

Please let me know if this is something you are are interested in.

Cheers! xxx

Jalem (dawny33) Hello people,

I have just come across a site proposal for Book Recommendations, which I think you all would be interested to have. (http://area51.stackexchange.com/propo...)

So, in case you want the site to be up and live, then do go ahead and support it.

message 198: by Rick (new)

Rick Harsch i am rick harsch, not an Indian, so I have to ask if that is all right. I just joined goodreads, so am not very handy with it yet, but I typed in geography, hoping for a general geo group and this was first. I have a strong connection with India as my wife is from Chennai, and my two children are of course half Indian.

I am also good friends with the Indian author and translator Prasenjit Gupta--his book of short stories is in my bathroom where I am re-reading the stories, and his translation of Nirmal Verma stories is within reach to my left.

Rick, all are welcome here:-)
Glad to know of your connection with India.
The group was possibly named so to attract more Indian readers.

message 200: by Rick (new)

Rick Harsch Thanks. Are there really thousands of active members?
