Achuth Mohandas | 9 comments Hello folks, I joined Goodreads a few months ago and I wasn't totally active in this site. Now, I'd like to be more active here and learn about people's expectation and usual reactions on books. I am planning to publish my new book this year and I hope there's a lot to learn from you guys. Also, I hope to get some quality readers for my book. Would you guys be able to help me and my book reach its target audience?

I currently finished elon musk.

message 254: by Vijay (new)

Vijay | 3 comments When it comes to reading I am very picky and always rely on the input and recommendation from friends about the book to read. I am looking forward to friends and get similar kind of help from this group also.

Vaibhav and Vijay, you will get what you seek in the various threads.
Achut, for your book promo, you may have to join author centric groups as this group caters more to readers than authors. Good luck. :-)

Hi Vaibhav, if you like sci-fi then I suggest you give 1984 by George Orwell a read. It's one of my current reads (tends towards the dystopian genre but lots of tech concepts in it) and has been good so far. One more suggestion is I, Robot by Isaac Ashimov if you haven't read it already. I've seen the movie and it was pretty awesome. Will read the book sometime in future but my hands are full at the moment :) Not a big fan of non-fiction, but I've heard great reviews about Dr. Kalam's autobiography Wings of Fire (also check out India 2020 by him). Hope these help :)

It is difficult to explain at one go. You will slowly learn th ropes if you regularly navigate the site. There are book recommendations, book reviews and you can make virtual friends.

Hi! ☺

Like any other site, GR too needs a little getting used to. Don't worry, you'll learn quick enough. As for this group, you may browse through the different discussion threads in the group and join in any of the interesting discussions here. We have a thread for discussing Classics (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) here. I think I found some Bengali titles in your profile, so you might also be interested in checking out the Bengali Literature thread in the Regional Indian Literatures folder. Do go through the various threads and join in the discussions. :)

Hi Karthik, I think you mean Motivational books. I don't read the genre much, so can't really suggest any, but do check out this thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The thread isn't active now, but you may revive it, hopefully someone interested will respond. Alternatively, you might also ask for recommendations in the 'Recommendations' folder
(https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...)

Sheeraz Khan | 21 comments i have been on and off on this group for most of the time, the biggest mistake i did, sometimes due to lack of time and sometimes i felt so new but anyhow this time i expect myself to be active and learn new things from this group and honestly i learned a lot after my first book got released that its not about promoting my book at all lol, i can rather have a list of friends who will eventually be there for me when am ACTIVE haha

message 274: by Shobhit (new)

Shobhit Shobhit (shobhitg) | 253 comments I am looking for connecting with readers from various cities to grow my knowledge. I am willing to connect with writers as to gain from their experience. No specific genre but I prefer whodunnit, romance, selfhelp, poetry etc. I am in general a fast reader in many languages and can read any kind of book. I am always open to suggestions about what book should I read next. If any new writer seeks any assistance like reviews or publishing guidance, I am happy to do that, free of cost, to support them.

This is Abhijeet. A solution Architect, Engineer, an Author of Fiction and avid reader of non-fiction. Best work which I have read recently is feast of vultures by Josey Joseph. I believe there are exceptional stories out there and what we are feeding our generation is a same old stale pizza.

Tui Allen (tuibird) | 12 comments Hello. I am so new to this group this is my very first post here. I was excited to be accepted as I am not living in India but in New Zealand. My reasons for wanting to belong were:
1. I have several Indian Facebook friends who I really enjoy talking to.
2. I think India leads the world in respect for animals
3. I am interested in Indian attitudes to spirituality especially where it relates to animals
4. I am reading a book about the Indian mathematician Ramanujan at this very moment. I am fascinated by Ramanujan's relation to the divine in his life and I think he is almost a one-man proof of the existence of divinity. I wonder if others here may have read this same book. It is called The Man Who Knew Infinity A Life of the Genius Ramanujan by Robert Kanigel The Man who Knew Infinity

I had never heard about that book but I added it to my wishlist, it seems very interesting.
I'm not Indian, but I hope you will however enjoy to talk with me. Though I'm not Indian, I'm vegetarian and I'm also interested in spirituality ;P

Yes, group reads are helpful to know other members. Well done!
I usually never take part in group reads because I want to read whatever I fancy, and I think that I wouldn't like that book. Isn't it a thriller or mystery? I hope you will enjoy both the book and the group read ;D

message 292: by Aditya (last edited Mar 13, 2017 08:52AM) (new)

Aditya Sarvepally (adityasarvepally) Hello everyone!! (And by everyone I only meant to some 10% of everyone, who actually ARE active)

Aditya here, from Hyderabad. An ENFP, who lately developed interest for book reading..

And I am here to literally stalk you all guys (maybe not all, am just exaggerating :p ), see what are your fav genres, to know what all the books that you have read & also how you felt about them.
And this is what I expect from this group, from any group, actually for that matter.

And all this for only one purpose, to just know what are all the wonderful books that are left, demanding to be read by me..
(Might also to get to know you better, & become book-buddies)
Wow that feels so good!
So looking forward to all that..
Happy Reading!! :)

Abhishek Sharma (abhi_luuluu) Hey all!
I was wondering if we have an online WhatsApp group dedicated for the same purpose as, to be honest, the UI of the groups at Goodreads is not very seamless
.

message 299: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 210 comments Hey everyone! This is Paritoshika from Delhi. I just wanted to confirm and inquire about a few things.
1. Where and how do we ask people who are interested in reading the same book as we?

2. Is the discussion restricted to only Indian books or we can discuss any book?

3. What exactly is a thread and how to create one? ;)

I am actually a novice 😅 and I am trying to learn how groups function. I will be highly obliged if anyone could help me find answers to the above questions. Thank you!
