Newbie corner - what do you expect from this group?
Hi smitha, Im very new to this online group in Good Reads. But feel the warmth already of good friends. An early judgement might not be apt. Give me some time to give you a good response. I would surely like to admit that I liked the welcome I received from the group.
What to expect from this group? Energetic and friendly conversation. Even if you could never guess by the way I write sometimes, I used to teach English in Thailand, and I often had students who were Indian and who, like me, took a lot of pleasure in reading and talking about the books they read. I guess that memory and perception of them really took root in my mind because I automatically assumed that, like my former students, the conversation here about books and other topics would be vibrant and hospitable. And so far I can attest that I was absolultely correct.
We have a thread for non-fiction..http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...
We havnt separated biographies though.. But I guess you can use this thread to discuss about non-fiction books..

thanks.
we can add subsections for biography/autobiography and improve yourself fiction in the genre folder. I'll do it now
How about an auto recommendation system based on the genre specified and the books read. Right now only when someone recommends a book to you, then only you come to know. Also, a tab for the most recent and best reviewed books.
I feel its out of the scope for us. Moderators can just add or delete threads and suchlike. Changing the format will come under Good Reads managers. Let us see what Aditya, Hazy and Anbu have to say....

Btw, i see that when u click on a book and look at it's description u will see a column on the right side "Readers also enjoyed this" which essentially is like other books in the genre which got high rating. Though it might not be exactly like what u expected, it's a helpful thing and i use it always, it's my most fav pass time on GR..
Stumbleupon suggested me this site for book recommendations:whichbook.net
It's an interesting concept, but i wish there are more parameters to set there!

Complementary beer would be a good start. I think that would be a good start in making this group more cozy.

But I have tried this link: http://www.goodreads.com/recommendati... and there are some recommendations; it seems interesting. Is this what you were looking for?
That's great find Dely, dats exactly what Sumit was asking i guess, but as mentioned in the thread, looks like it's limited to members of the "Goodreads Feedback" group for the time being. Lucky me, i joined that group long back and it sure looks great!
Asok wrote: "Acceptance of good writing for what it is worth on its own."Hi Asok.. This thread is to tell us what do you expect from this group (Indian Readers).. We are not talking about 'Indian' readers.. :)
LOL! Thanks Anbu for decoding that, i was literally scratching my head wondering what that statement meant :PI got to rename the thread.
Hey..is there a thread where newbie writers can share their short stories/ articles/ important blogs ?
Sumit, just created a new folder called Writer's corner, created three threads as part of it, one for short stories etc, one for blogs and one for published authors. Request you to create a new thread for yourselves if u plan on constantly posting ur stuff around here. Else use any of the existing ones appropriately.Hope you find it useful, let's know if u need smethng else.

Hi Guys, Just joined today. Nice to see an Indian group here. I have been rediscovering my passion for reading since last one year which was subdued due to work pressures. Not that I am free now but probably better time management! Would love to hang around with you people.
This one's simple- Primarily to discuss books with fellow readers and to learn of interesting books that i may have not heard off but would enjoy reading.

Im sure you wont be disappointed.. I got to know about so many good books thru this group only.. :)
I was a part-time before Goodreads. Now I am full time. Exploring with different genres, experimenting. The word-of-mouth advice and recommendations you get from fellas here will surely help (and some of them will bite you in the bums). Plus the GR meets are a great way of meeting like minded people and of course making some great friends (and earn you your own personal stalkers as well :P).
We have 5 moderators right? How about a teen mod? Us youth do have ideas that can improve the group ♥
I'm here because I now live outside India, and would love to know the sort of books folks are reading back home.
D. wrote: "I'm here because I now live outside India, and would love to know the sort of books folks are reading back home."The reading Progress Folder is setup for the members to share the books they've read..
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...
Also, there is a thread where the members post what they are reading currently..
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...
I think these two will give you the idea on what is being read..
I have joined the group few days back and i must say it is one of the most active groups i have come across online. The games are very creative and thank you all the moderators for adding a new life all the time to this group. Keep up the good work.
thanks, Gayatri.
Anushri you can just go through our bookshelf and even click on individual member names to see what they read and review and how they have rated books.
Or you can search for a particular book in the top box and click on the book to see the various reviews.

What I expect from this group? Nothing more really :)I think, what I can do for the group is more important than what the group can do for me.
We have rules for what we should NOT do; why not have some duties for what we ought to do? So, please consider a suggestions/duties thread for us newbies :)
Wow! thats a first :) Thanks Shrsv - that's very thoughtful of u!You can start by being active here, reading more and participating in the buddy reads/ group reads and the discussion thread..
Finally I find a site and a group where I can share my experiences as an Author with my fellow members who are also interested in book reading and writing. I asked many persons on Facebook about this but they never appeared to be helpful though I have more than 1000 friends. Now here I can expect some good response.
Hello,I am a newbie to this group, joined yesterday.
Not much of suggestions right now but I would surely add if anything comes to my mind.

Go through the reading process folder.. Each thread is by a member reviewing the boks they read.. LInk for the 2013 folder is below..
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...
There are folders for 2012 and 2011 as well.. Also, there is recommendation feature at GR itself.. You can 'Ask for recommendations' by adding the Genres of your interest and GR members will start recommending books for you... Happy reading.. :)
What about open discussion on quotation or on some particular lines..to know other's prospective as well as our's...and to put a final conclusion???
Sheetal, we have a debates folder - not been used in a while, but you can create a new thread in there for what you have in mind. Does that make sense or i got u wrong?
Aditya, actually, I am not saying about debate...want open discussion in the sense of different and fair prospective. Like, different people have different meaning of same line in their life, sometimes it remains untouched in the way of deep thinking. But on the other hand I think you are right if readers are not so interested in these kind of threads or folders, it would be worthless to create a new thread on the similar topics.
