One more done, 26 to go. Finished As The Pig Turns
and was busily congratulating myself that I'm all caught up on this author when I found out she has published not one, but two more Hamish MacBeth since last I checked. Sigh. This one wasn't bad. She's been phoning them in somewhat the last couple years but still highly readable.

I just had 2 books in a row that I couldn't finish, which never happens.
and
.But I just learned that Christopher Moore has a new book coming out and I can't wait!
Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon by Jorge Amado- very rich and colorfull, I feel like I'm really in Brasil.... I like this writer already from Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands
When you want to add the cover...click add book/author above this box and it lets you search for the book you want to add. You can add cover...or link, but they both take someone who clicks on it to the book.
I've Got Your Number and The Spaces BetweenTwo very different books! :)

Currently in the middle of Friday Mornings at Nine
and Last Car To Elysian Fields
from my enormous current reads batch, and about to start on Death by Diamonds
, Crocodile on the Sandbank
and Deeply, Desperately
. Once those five are finished, I'll have 21 left in this batch. Making headway!
Right now I'm reading
,
and
(because I had to see what all of the fuss was about.) Of these, The Language of Flowers is the best one so far.

In general I liked it because I loved the whole series, but Mockingjay was my least favorite of the three. It took me a lot longer to get through it, partially because it was just so different than the first two and also because I didn't really want it all to be over, if that makes sense.
Finally I got a hold of on books from my written to-read list (I also have mental to-read list and anything to-read list which is included any books from some writers I read a lot of anything that they produced)]. So, this book from my written list is The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and I love it so far (I'm about 1/4 part right now). Many book resently I liked from beginning (like His Other Wife: A Novel by Deborah Bedford ) but it was getting worse and worse during progressing to the end and by finishing I already didn't like this book/sBut I already have experience with other Atwood's book "The cat's eye" and I liked this book, so I hope I will not have my opinion from positive to negative also about book I'm reading now

Oh... so glad to hear you like CAIN. I gotta get my hands on that one. Saramago is one of my favorite authors!

It was my least favorite of the 3 also, but was still good.
Finished reading The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly before work this morning (great suspense!). Am about to start Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford.

77 Shadow Street. A lackluster effort by Koontz, this novel is disappointing on many levels, in my opinion."I read 77 Shadow Street also and liked it pretty well but haven't read any of Koontz's other works, so nothing to compare it with. I have heard that others didn't think it was that great either, compared to his earlier books.
Kyle ( Rebel Leader) wrote: "Believe me, Claire, 77 Shadow Street is not the best Dean Koontz has to offer. I found it over-long, depressing, outlandish and populated with characters I cared nothing about. His earlier books..."
I used to like Koontz's work unconditionally.... But I'm agree, I also was disappointed in some his latest works
Another one down. 25 to go. Finished Last Car To Elysian Fields
. James Lee Burke never disappoints.
After discussing the American Literature Renaissance in my U.S. History class today, I'm feeling the urge to tackle some James Fenimore Cooper (The Leatherstocking Series) and revisit some transcendental poetry from Thoreau and Emerson.Getting in touch with my American roots is always a gratifying feeling. :)
I have just finished One Day by David Nichols really enjoyed it, still currently reading Dark Matter By Michelle Paver and Personally, I blame my fairy godmother By Claudia Carroll

I've heard that Odd Thomas was one of his better ones. I'll have to put that on my list. Kyle, can you recommend any of his others that you thought were good?
I'm reading The Moneychangers which is a paperbook so it's slow going. On Kindle I'm reading The Lord Is My Shepherd which a cozyish mystery and I just started to reread The Enchanted April.
listening to:
by Elmore Leonardreading:
and getting ready to start:
Heliopolis for my atwi 80 books challenge.
Paula wrote: "I'm reading
. Very interesting so far."I just finished that book, Paula. It was utterly fascinating.
I sent The Secret History of the Pink Carnation back to the library without finishing it. I got a third of the way through and just did not care what happened. Now I'm reading Beneath a Silent Moon, which so far is not as good as the first in the series. Maybe I need to stop reading until I get over this sinus infection and strep throat, nothing seems to be making me happy, LOL!
I am currently reading The Night Circus, which is proving to be a really interesting novel. I normally wouldn't have read it, but it was so highly recommended that I finally gave it a chance. Really glad thus far that I have. I am about 200+ pages into it.
I just finished "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," which my book club discussed last night. Interesting. I also finished "The Dyslexic Advantage" and "Proust and the Squid" this week. Up next is "The Hunger Games," which wasn't even on my to-read list but should be quick and good for discussion.
I'm also listening to "Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony" with my son, and I'll begin listening to "Devil in the White City" this afternoon on my commute home from work.
I just finished Strangers: A Novel, it was outstanding, perfect description of loneliness.I am about to begin
, I love this author's wit in her other novels.

Maya wrote: "I have just finished One Day by David Nichols really enjoyed it, still currently reading Dark Matter By Michelle Paver and Personally, I blame my fairy godmother By Claudia Carroll"Love One Day!
Just finished reading 'The Social Conquest of Earth' by legendary biologist E.O. Wilson. The book charts the biological and cultural evolution of our species from the time we branched off from the chimps to the dawn of civilization. It was really excellent. I've published a full and comprehensive summary of the book at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com if you are interested in this topic.Cheers,
Aaron
I just finished How to Talk to a Widower, it was witty but unsatisfactory.I am about to begin Man and Wife

I haven't read the the last, say, five of them, because they started to seem like the same book over & over. But its been a while & I might pick them up. Gosh, now I'm in an Amelia mood!
Really enjoying "The Pursuit of Cool" by Robb Skidmore. Its a coming of age novel set in college in the 1980's. Its very well written and enjoyable. Check it out at The Pursuit of Cool
Jennifer wrote: "Two more down, 23 to go-- finished Deeply, Desperately (loved it-- did she really quit writing this series??) last night..."Jennifer: Sadly, the publisher cancelled the series after three books--despite reader demand--but Heather Webber has written a fourth book available in ebook format soon.
