I'm a little over halfway through with The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters and Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Both are really good, and I'm actually surprised at how quickly I'm flying through The Little Stranger!

I just finished ONE THOUSAND WHITE WOMEN THE JOURNALS OF MAY DODD by Jim Fergus and loved it! Now am reading PRIVATE #1 SUSPECT by James Patterson.

Deadhouse gates and so far enjoying it... Erikson does a good job so far at holding my attention... although the language isnt so intricate as Martin's IMO, the storytelling is great and the dialogues are well crafted, the action surprisingly fast paced for such tomes as malazan ones

I finished Patient Zero. It was packed full of action.

Right now I'm reading Blue Sky Days by Marie Landry. I got it free as one of those read & review things. I'm 5 or 6 chapters into it so far and it's pretty boring. the novel is not very well written and its meant to be a YA romance novel but the main characters who are 19 & 22 talk like their in their 60's! And if that wasn't bad enough, the love story is far too unrealistic, so I'm finding it very hard to connect with the characters. I think this is one novel where I'm definitely going to struggle through it.

I really liked the two books by Sarah Waters that I read awhile back - Affinity and Fingersmith. Glad to hear you are liking The Little Stranger. I'll have to pick that one up!

I'm finally reading Dead Until Dark which seems to be a very fast read. Almost done with Blood Island: A Matt Royal Mystery which definitely reminds me of the Travis McGee series by John D. MacDonald and I just started Site Unseen.

I'm reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and re-reading The Forgotten Garden. I started The Highest Stakes, but am not sure if I'll finish it- the story is good, but the author just goes on and on with endless, boring, and unnecessary details about horses and horse racing. The woman has an unhealthy obsession.

Just finished one. Death of a Man . This is a true story about the death of the writer/editor Charles Wertenbaker, by his widow, the writer Lael Tucker Wertenbaker. Unusual for the time (early 1950s) he insisted on being told the truth about his illness and making his own decisions about his final days, and his wife manages to support him in this utterly without becoming subservient or losing herself in the process. The writing is lyrical and reminiscent to me of Capote or Hellman. I read this because Garson Kanin (who also co-wrote "Adam's Rib" for Tracy and Hepburn) wrote a play based on this book which I read recently and which impressed me.

I did enjoy it. I read it for book club which we are having on Saturday. I can't wait to discuss it!

I was just at the VA Hospital and saw a box of donated books. I've always been a John Hersey fan (Hiroshima, White Lotus, etc.) and saw his name on "The Algiers Motel Incident," printed in 1968 about police violence against black people during the Detroit riots. Very timely, but a horror movie that's really a documentary. It's leaving me a little queasy, a reaction I've never really had to a book before. I'm on page six.

I'm reading Jefferson's Sons by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. It's a young adult novel about Thomas Jefferson's slave children.

Another one down (31 to go in this batch!)-- Perfection: A Memoir of Betrayal and Renewal . I LOVE the cover. I liked the book and imagine it must have been incredibly cathartic to write. The only thing I'm not sold on is the extent to which the author seems intent on hanging on to the things that happened to her, and measuring herself against them. I suspect it's largely due to how recently the events had happened to her when she wrote this but I hope for her sake she grows into the ability to shed some of their influence.

I'm still trying to finish Banned for Life (sorry Lori) - I keep hoping to get the 'gotta' with it. I know now it ain't gonna happen but I'll still finish it. I've almost got Irina and Jason off to Europe - thank god! I enjoyed the music references but cannot care about the characters except for his 'muse,' Cassady. I agree with Cassady about Jason; just leave the dude alone!

I am also reading a much more enjoyable yet major piece of mind candy, Celebrity in Death What a relief! About half way through.
