Just started a very short novel The Making of An American Quilt. It's quite lyrical and thought provoking about the role of woman and how its' changed.
I am right in the middle of The Likeness by Tana French. Its really good and I'm looking forward to finding out what the mystery is and who-dun-it.

Just finished about 6:30 this morning How to Make An American Quilt by Otto. Very lyrical, short and touching insight on the roles of women.
Patricia wrote: "I'm reading Beach Music by Pat Conroy."Pat Conroy is one of my favorite authors, let me know how that goes!
I am reading the memoir Faery Tale by Signe Pike. Loving it so far. About one woman's search for the magic of childhood in the sadly not-so-magical world of adults.
I just finished Erik Larson's "The Devil in the White City," and I feel cheated. It was very much like simultaneously reading two stories that happen to be set during the same period. I really expected Larson to somehow join the two into a larger metanarrative. Maybe he tried. Maybe he thought he was successful. If so, I must respectfully disagree.I'm hesitant to even pick a next book.

Will do, Tellulah!

Michael & Kyle,
I'm really enjoying Beach Music so far. I loved The Prince of Tides but was just so so on South of Broad. So far Beach Music reminds me of a better executed version of South of Broad. I watched a video about Pat Conroy's upbringing and definitely see it's influence on his work. I'll let you know my thoughts when I finish.
Started reading A Thousand Secret Senses by Tann-although I don't remember hearing of it before now, I think I'm going to enjoy these more than the other two I read. It deals with mental illness and culture, or so it seems so far.

Long time no post for me!
I am reading Jac Jemc's My Only Wife, which is really good. I recently finished Amelia Gray's Threats: A Novel.
Funny connections between these two books - which was completely unknown and unintentional to me:
Both are written by women, and contain a male lead character. Both male characters have lost their wives and are grieving them. And Amelia Gray blurbed Jac Jemc's novel...

I am reading Jasper Jones. Not sure why it is called a Young Adult title as it is satisfying thus far to this middle-aged reader.
Hi all! I'm new here :-)I just finished House of Sand and Fog, which I just couldn't put down.
I also recently finished The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America, and liked it a lot. I agree that the two narratives weren't well-linked, but thought they were both well done and needed each other.
I really enjoyed The Likeness too, but recommend you skip Faithful Place, which is next in the series.
.About 1/6th of the way through Zorro by Allende.I'm enjoying it,but the real reason I'm reading it is because the former tennant left the book here. Not bad taste,if not my exact taste.

Oh shoot, I just bought Faithful Place. It looks to be a bit shorter of a read so I'll go ahead and read it.
Just finished Club Dead which interrupted my reading of Beggarman, Thief, The First Excellence and Blind Instinct. Anyone else find that when they borrow a book from their digital library they feel compelled to read it as quickly as possible?

Well, hopefully you'll like it! I just thought it really couldn't compare to the first two.
Today I finished reading the wonderful book...The Bungalow: A Novel. the characters were well rounded!
Karen M wrote: "Just finished Club Dead... Finished my own Sookie book, Dead Reckoning, as I'm sure you saw in the Cozy Mysteries group. Now to await the latest coming my way from the same friend who loaned me this one. *g*
I just read on my kindel SINCE TOMORROW by Morgan Nyberg and it was pretty good. Now am reading also on my kindel THE DROUGHT by Lily White and am really loving it. Also reading for my face to face book club THE WORLD BELOW by Sue Miller.
Hello all, I'm new to this group (but not to goodreads) and thought I'd share some recent good reads. I loved The Thousand Autumns of Joseph De Zoet; not light reading but well worth it. Very much enjoyed A Monster Calls, an illustrated YA novel that tackles a tough topic. Am currently rereading A Wrinkle in Time, which I probably last read many decades ago. I need to learn how to hyperlink to titles! Am now looking for a good, meaty "summer" read. Two I really liked in recent years were The Passage and The Gargoyle. Any suggestions along those lines would be appreciated.
I just finished Loving Frank by Nancy Horan, which I really liked. I then started Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. What do they have in common? I'm not sure other than a passionate love affair. I'm anxious to see what all the hype is about Fifty Shades of Grey.
Oh, I see now. I also made an error - it's Jacob not Joseph. Doh! The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de ZoetAnd: A Monster Calls
Hi Kyle and thank you!
Just finished Zorro by Allende, which I liked alot more than I initially thought I was going to. ZorroZorro
Now I'm interrupting my regular reading with Finger Lickin' Fifteen (trying to get caught up with yet another series) which I have trouble putting down. Really needed a good dose of Ms Plum.

Gretchen,
My suggestions would be
Gone With the Wind
The Green Mile
The Pillars of the Earth
The Shadow of the Wind
Nicole, Thanks for the suggestions. I've read them all except for The Shadow of the Wind which I have now requested from the library. It might be time to revisit Gone With the Wind. World Without End is also a great, epic rollicking read.

There were so many great historical tidbits in the story, that it made it satisfying on that level, but the two main stories were tangential at best and I was disappointed.
I just finished Endless Love, by far one of the best novels I read all year. I love how authentic the characters were and how the author beautifully told the story of a young man's love for a woman. Highly recommend it to all of you:)I am about to begin Long Drive Home
Started Evanovichs' Ten Big Ones. I'm finding the humor annoying, but I understand that alot of other people think its'great. So I'll perserve for a little longer anyhow.

I haven't read World Without End yet, but now I am looking forward to it.
Just finished Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snowthis is my review www.goodreads.com/review/show/314866037

Did you time that to be able to discuss with the group? It's one of May's group reads :)

I am reading Lost in Shangri-la, an amazing book. I admit, I am a huge fan of survival stories, strong and determined charcters, WWII episodes and general non-fiction, and this book has a little bit of everything. I can't wait to see how it develops.
