Bridget (americanxgirlxluvrx386) | 157 comments Yes, the ending was a perfect bitter-sweet moment that I very much enjoyed and in reality you can't just suppose that no one in the book will die and they will all live happily ever after becuase life isn't that way. Some moments are better, some are worse. Like when Finnick died that was depressing, but than again there were happy moments in the book.

Kyle (kcon13) | 16 comments I agree that it was very sad when Finnick and when Prim died. However, I think those parts are necessary. I almost cried when Prim died, and I'm the tough/no emotions kinda guy. But I think those parts add emotion and are a gauge to how into the story you are. I also believe that they separate Mockingjay from the realm of a "chick flick". It is by far the most into the love story in the series and those deaths are kind of a kicker from that path. So it stayed with the "bittersweet" (from Jahlia, message 55) style. On top of that, I think the deaths were a way of saying that not all of the great people survive in war. Some of the best and least deserving die. That's just the way it is.

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, I know they're nessesary, but I'm ever so slightly obsessed with Finnick. I <3 him!!!

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

Its not because he's hot! Underneath that act he puts on to protect himself, he's just so sweet and nice. In book three when Annie was having trouble at the lunch table, and covering her ears, Finnick talked to her and comforted her and coaxed her back into the real world basically. I love him so much for his personality. I honestly don't see a hot Guy in my mind when I picture Finnick. I picture the guy who has a Chernobyl melt down of the mind when his love is in danger. Oh Finnick...

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah i agree
i was crushing on gale as well

I agree with you Diana. I crushed on Peeta HARD :D If only he was real... <3

message 57: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) It was nice to see Finnick's sweet sensitive side with Annie in Mockingjay. That was nice. But I was never crushing on him.

For me it was ALWAYS Peeta <3 ...Even at the beginning when Gale was the main guy.

message 58: by Serena (new)

Serena (acesatiretomecretin) | 1 comments Katniss is blind!!!! Peeta loves her. I think Gale is just selfish, self-absorbed and jealous. He doesn't even see Katniss until HG. Mockingjay...what can i say? It was depressing. SC could have ended things a little differently. What was that about 5-10-15 years about?
Doesn't she love Peeta enough to have his children???!!! I felt that Katniss never did choose Peeta over Gale. It felt like...if Gale didn't cause Prim's death Katniss would have chosen him. Peeta just picked up the pieces and leftover or something
:( super sad for Peeta. Katniss doesn't realize how much Peeta sacrificed for her. Peeta's family is DEAD. He only has one leg. No the metal one is not real. It's fake so it doesn't count. He was brainwashed for god's sake T.T SC should have given Katniss some epiphany that the one she loves is Peeta and Gale is just a cold hearted jerk....why was the novel rushed!!!??? There was no detail of what happens to them after...i felt cheated:( Oh! and Finnick shouldn't have died. didn't the girl he was in love with have enough being crazy??? I did like that...Katniss said, "What
I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I
need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The
promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta
can give me that."............

She should have elaborated more on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lynne | 1 comments I know why some people may have not liked the ending to Mockingjay but I feel like it fit the books to leave it so sad and a tad depressing. Personally, I really liked how she tied it up.Yeah, the ending was a little abrupt like she wanted to finish it as fast as she could with limited desciptions. It would also have been nice to find out what happened to some of the other characters like Gale in more detail but i still liked the end. All three books were not the most happy, sunshine type books in the world and thats one of the reasons i liked them so much. If she gave them a super happy ending at the end i feel it would have been weird. Those books were awesome and if she gave them a cheesy wam fuzzy feeling ending that would have been wrong. At least Peeta and Katniss got together.

I agree-if no one died, and they all lived happily after and Katniss ran away with Prince Peeta or Gale or whatever to live in a sugar castle with licrocice trees, cotton candy bushes, and furniture made of bubblegum it would be the worst book ever. The ending suited the series, and Suzanne Collins tends to write sad books about poor people, and if you don't believe me then read Gregor The Overlander and the rest of the Underland Cronciles. It would be weird if it weren't the way it is and i LOVE it-so that is a fine reason why Suzanne Collins chose to end the Hunger Games Trilogy the way she did

Alexa (at414) | 7 comments no i hate the ending. she killed prim and just about made gale disappear! i loved gale!! humph. they had so much history, so they should have at least kept in touch. sad... and then time goes by so fast and i have no clue what she's thinking at all. and the epilogue was too short.

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

Is anyone else seeing the comment box at the top of the page?

message 68: by Lish (new)

Lish I hated the ending, i felt cheated in some way. I complete LOVE the books i just feel that they deserved such a better way to wrap them up, then it was. Firstly concerning Prims death i would have thought there should be a more poignant scene concerning the bot of them, Like there was with Rue. After all Katniss did risk everything for Prim, i just think there should have been a little more justice to their relationship.
Also i thought when we found out that Gale just got up and left i wanted to scream and shout, because i seriously couldnt believe he would do that! it was as if everything we had learnt about his character was thrown out the window. And as for Katniss then going on to have CHILDREN with Peeta, well that was just like a massive slap in the face. All we heard about in 3 books was how much Katniss didnt want kids and them BAM shes got some. I was just left feeling that towards the end she was writing for writings sake and wanted to stub out all possibilities of writing out another book. I personally from reading the books, and what i got from the characters can't believe that Katniss would have eneded up with Peeta and they would have had children, but thats my personal opinion. I also would have thought it would be important to follow Peeta through his highjack recovery, and see how we would have gotten to the stage were he and Katniss could be together and go on to have a family.
I just ended up closing the book on a massive downer, and feeling a little let down.
But anywho i love love love the books so forgive its shoddy finish.

Abi (abigail-but-you-can-call-me-abi) | 20 comments i just can't believe they killed Finnick!! why?? it was just unnessecary! decapitation as well! and she totally just rushed the peeta thing at the end .They could've just gotten together with didn't need the Harry Potter style epiloge. which didn't mention if they went ahead with the capital games or Haymitch. I guess i was expecting more:(

message 70: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes!!!!! I can't believe she killed Finnick off either!!!!!! (Barbra! Post a sad/cry face for me!!)

I don't like how Mockingjay ended. I don't feel like you get to enjoy it completely. You start to go AAAAAA, but then you're cut off and don't get to go AAAAAHHHHH. It feels like a cop-out.

message 80: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe it wasn't Suzanne Collin's fault though, maybe it was the editor...

message 83: by Twana (last edited Jun 11, 2011 10:22PM) (new)

Twana (ms_twana) | 3 comments Hello everyone. I'm a newbie to GR and this is my first post in the group.

I liked Mockingjay, but it took a turn for the worse to me. First of all, I hated the whole district 13 setting. I wanted more Katniss and Peeta. I felt the same way about New Moon (I wanted Bella and Edward). I HATED that Prim was killed. I HATED that she just kind of silently exited Gale to the left. My biggest HATE of them all was that Katniss was exiled back to District 12 and labeled insane instead of a HERO for killing Coin. That made no sense to me what so ever.

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

If someone killed your political leader who you thought was saving you from a tyrannical government, don't you think you would exile them, or even execute them?

message 85: by Twana (new)

Twana (ms_twana) | 3 comments No one ever even heard her side. They just kept her in the room the entire time. She could have told them what was going on, but they didn't even give her a chance.

I didn't like it, one bit.

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I know what you mean, I didn't like it either. It went way too fast. But it isn't too far from what would have happened. They were in the middle of a revolution and with all major political leaders gone, there wouldn't be much organization, or fairness...

message 87: by Twana (new)

Twana (ms_twana) | 3 comments Thanks for the welcomes!!!

Ratch, your thoughts from the other side makes a lot of sense. It was just hard to see that for my hero. :-(

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I actually didn't think of it that way until I typed it up. I just wish, i dunno, that there was something more to the end of the book, it was a real disappointment.

message 89: by Mr. Never Smiles (new)

Mr. Never Smiles I hate the ending! But, it was the logical thing to do and probably the happiest she could make the story without making it laughable. At least Peeta and Katniss survived.

message 90: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) I did think it was unfair of them to exile Katniss back to District 12 after she killed Coin. I think it happened because the majority of people didn't know just how much Coin was actually like Snow. She was basically in line to become the next President Snow and Katniss saved Panem from having to go through that ordeal again. No one gave her a chance to explain why she had done it, they just deemed her mentally unstable and sent her back without so much of a thought.

I also thought it was weird how they made the commander from District 13 the new President. Like it just seemed like the most random decision on SC's part. Although there might not have been any other options, because it wouldn't have worked if she would have made Katniss president. It just seemed like she randomly picked that commander from D13 to be the new president without much thought.

message 91: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 12, 2011 01:17PM) (new)

I don't think that Coin was a random pick at all. She was leading the revolution after all. If you think of other revolutions in world history, isn't it one of the people, or the main one person, leading the revolution that become(s) the new leader?

message 92: by Mr. Never Smiles (new)

Mr. Never Smiles Coin was probably planning on making new Games for the Capitol and intended to become President for a long time.

message 93: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) No I meant like once Coin was dead and they picked that other woman to be President.

I knew they'd make Coin the new President and I agreed with Katniss that she couldn't take that position. If she would have become President she would have run the country the same way as Snow, or maybe even more ruthless and dystopian. I was happy that Katniss took Coin out, although it was surprising how it happened!

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

I was happy too, though a bit shocked. Then bow snow drowned on his own blood... that was just weird.

message 95: by Mr. Never Smiles (new)

Mr. Never Smiles i almost thought Katniss was going to go with it. THANK GOD SHE DIDN'T. Prim wouldn't like it and Prim is always first in Katniss' minds.

message 96: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, ok, yeah, I guess I need to reread them if I'm getting stuff mixed up, but anything is an excuse to reread them!

There's lots of other dystopian books out there! Have you ever read Matched by Ally Condie, that one even has a love triangle!
