I agree it was really good just with the exceptions of the death of Prim and Finnick.

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree Barbra I hated how Katniss said that about having kids, and how old was she if she waited like 15 maybe 20 years to have kids.

message 3: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) I think the end was bittersweet because of the deaths...I didn't like how it seemed that Suzanne Collins just skipped over so much of the end. Like there was hardly any detail at all!!! Like from the time Katniss arrived back in District 12 to the end, it felt like a blur that wasn't written in great detail. And I wish the epilogue would have had more writing about the 15 years before Katniss and Peeta had kids, like about their time together.

Although I did enjoy the part about the "Rememberance" book as I've dubbed it. It was really heartwarming! And I liked how a part of both Prim and Finnick lived on - in the roses and Katniss' child, and in Annie's giving birth to Finnick's child :) so sweet!

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

SC rushed the book. i think that's why a lot of people didnt like it that much.

message 5: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) Yeah I liked the book just not the ending so much. I mean I liked that Katniss ended up with Peeta, but the ending did feel rushed to me, moreso than the rest of the book.

Melissa | 66 comments I don't like the epilog(sorry I think i spelled that wrong) I LOVE that Katniss and Peeta ended together but to be honest I didn't like that they had kids!

It's just like happily ever after, but what happened in between? I think the epilogue really wasn't needed, and to make it better just multiply it my about three pages or so. Clear up some loose ends. ;)

Jaye (jazzy123) | 2195 comments Mod
pretty much :)

message 12: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) Yeah I liked the epilogue but I think SC should have made it longer and included more information.

message 13: by Kath (new)

Kath (zchy10) | 9 comments Yeah but not quite. Yeah because I support Peeta and Katniss. Not quite because it was kind of fast. Like real fast. And also because Prim died. :(

But all in all, it's good. It was frustrating but it was nothing compared to the frustration I felt when Harry and Hermione didn't end up together. Tsk.

message 14: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) I was so happy that Katniss and Peeta go together :)

I know Zchynard I wanted Harry and Hermione to be together from the very first book lol but she was a good match for Ron...and Harry & Ginny were so cute together :)

message 15: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tifftiffb) It was a good ending, but it was so sad with Prim and Finnick dying. I think it was nice that Peeta and Katniss were together, but i want to know what happened to Gale.

message 16: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) Yeah it was bittersweet because Prim died but then Katniss and Peeta ended up getting together.

message 17: by James (last edited May 26, 2011 03:22PM) (new)

James Gonzalez I didn't like it. I didn't mind that Katniss ended up with Peeta. I just hated how the whole ending felt very, very rushed.

I totally agree with you about the "rushed" part James! I felt like she could have written a LOT more and went more in depth about how everyone ended up!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I guess she could have, but I'm okay with the ending.

she didn't even really give us the kids names... i think that sucks

message 21: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) Yeah I know hey? I wish she would have gone a bit more in depth with how everything turned out.

It kind of felt like, to me, that she just wanted to be done writing the series and so she just quickly tied everything up in the fastest way possible.

message 22: by Jaye, If Chaos Walking and Adventure Time had a love child it'd be me (new)

Jaye (jazzy123) | 2195 comments Mod
yeah not really much depth.

message 23: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) Yeah that's what bothered me about it. I mean I liked how she kind of wrapped up the storylines, but it felt like it was only partially complete.

I still had so many questions at the end, which left me feeling a bit disatisfied.

all my friends and I agree with that statement :(

message 25: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) Yeah it's kinda sad...but the rest of the series and the books make up for it in a big way because they are EPIC!!! :)

message 27: by Allison (new)

Allison I did not like the ending at all. I feel like everything we learned about the characters in all three books, excluding the lat 50 or so pages was completely thrown out the window in the end. In addition to that, the writing was rushed, when Prim died, I had to read it twice just to figure out what happened and because of that, the death lost its weight. Lastly, I just dont buy that Gale, her best friend, just gave up and left. Blaming him for the death of Prim was stretching it a bit far for me, and not only that but the last time they talk and he walks away, she regrets blaming it on him. Even back in district 12, she thinks about Gale and is jealous thinking he might be with someone else. The only reason she even ends up with Peeta is because hes there...It all just left a bad taste in my mouth.

message 28: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) I agree with everything you just said Allison!

message 29: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (zieglerae) Honestly, Allison, I felt like Peeta was better for her than Gale. Peeta was a better man. However, I do agree with the fact the Prim's death got far too little attention and was rushed past when truly it should have been something to cry about. I feel like if one of the victors had to die, Finnick was the best candidate. We all liked him, but he didn't play any major roles in the plot. For them to kill a victor we didn't like wouldn't have had any impression.

message 30: by Bri (new)

Bri (bri465) I agree with you, Ashley. Prim's death should've had more light shed on it. I think Finnick was a good one to eliminate, to keep us all on our toes. I think, however, that maybe Gale should've at least been seriously injured, so that, when Katniss needed a shoulder to cry on, Peeta would be there. Thus, their LOVE BOND would get stronger.

Allison Ashley wrote: "Honestly, Allison, I felt like Peeta was better for her than Gale. Peeta was a better man. However, I do agree with the fact the Prim's death got far too little attention and was rushed past when..."

Don't get me wrong, Ashley, I do think Peeta was a great guy, but there was irreversible damage done to him with the venom. I don't know that Peeta was a better man than Gale, but I think they both suited her in different ways. I'm more upset that Katniss didnt get to chose. Gale thought that he didn't have a chance and Peeta just hung around. She didn't chose Peeta out of love, her feelings for Gale were stronger so its just frustrating. I almost wished that Peeta would have been with the girl who first helped him remember Katniss and what was real (I forget her name, but they were friends in school). I think they would have been good together and then Katniss could have been alone or with Gale. Peeta and Katniss will never be able to have a truly harmonious relationship because he has to fight not to kill her every once in awhile.

However, I feel like Peeta will provide a much better life for Katniss. Gale was simply too violent and bloodthirsty and did not care much about having a family. He never really tried to get with Katniss until Peeta did. He also only realized his feelings for Katniss out of jealousy.

I don't agree about Gale. I think he's always had feelings for Katniss and wanted to be with her. The problem is they had such a great friendship together, and I see it as him not wanting to risk losing that by telling her his true feelings. I've seen lots of situations exactly like that and have been in it myself before.

I totally agree with you. The ending was depressing if you ask me. I mean, 'a playground on a GRAVEYARD?' Suzzane Collins could've written it better.

I really hated the ending, how Prim died.

message 41: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 1 comments Though it was very sad, I appreciated the deaths. It made the situation that the characters went through more real. I really dislike books that portray war, particularly a war in which there is so little chance of survival, as having no major casualties. The treatment of death, thirst for revenge, and overcoming the hardships of oppression were some of the best things about this series.

If I could change anything I would have liked her to take a little more time with the resolution for the characters, particularly between Peeta and Katniss, it was a very abrupt and "well you knew that would happen" kind of thing. I felt a little cheated that we didn't get to see them fall back in love, or really even have the start of that. I wouldn't have minded the "after the movie, this is where they are now, captioned" type epilogue, if we could have gotten a little more real-time resolution between the characters.

Just to comment on how long it took them to have kids.... even if she waited 15 years, she was what 18 at the end of the series, which means she started having children at 33.... which doesn't seem to be
"too late" to me. I feel like the wait was just another way in which SC was able to be more realistic to the fallout of this kind of situation than most authors.

Jill Keniston | 1 comments It is unrealistic to think that some of the main characters would not have died. I think the ending was great. Totally unexpected, who wants predictable?

message 47: by britt ✨ (new)

britt ✨ (britteeebee) I think a bunch of the main characters dying showed how the book was different from others in it portrays the realities of casualties of war.

Having some of the main characters die makes the book seem more real and it captures the readers in a greater way.

Yes, but how could I ever split up him and Annie. Finnick just isn't the type of Guy to have a mistress. I'm his sister!!!
