@Everyone: Totally check out Heather's blog...It is fabulous!!! And her giveaways are awesome!!!
Did I mention that I just won a fabulous contest on Heather's blog??? No? Well I did. Heather Hildenbrand who wrote Dirty Blood (note: a review from me will be posted soon!) is going to name one of the characters in her next book after me. LOL. Isn't that fun??
Anyway--Thanks for joining Heather!

nightlyreadingheather (heatherhy01) Thanks Cambria...and that was a really exciting giveaway for me also. I loved the book!!!

Jenn!!! I am so glad you joined! You don't have to have an invite to join although, I probably would have sent one eventually. LOL. I have heard such great things about NaNoWrimo....but I haven't done it yet. Although, I did just finish writing a book in 30 days....my brain totally turned to mush and I have been taking a few weeks off from writing to recover.lol. And you should definitely call your self a writer....just keep working at it and someday you will love what you write!!! Thanks for joining!!

Hello to Jen and Heather!! Great to see you guys on here! I hope you both find some fun things to do on here, and some useful tools as well!

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 34 comments Hi all,

I am new to the group and have been really excited about the support and the interesting things that I have seen so far in the threads.

I'm a mom of two grown boys... one surrogate grandson....two male dogs and one male cat.... can you say that I am surrounded by testosterone???

I have a blog that I would love for you all to visit and follow if you like...... you can find me @ A Journey Into Reading .

I read all types of books, but tend to stay away from straight romance and sci-fi. My blog is a variety of genres from historical fiction, contemporary, young adult, classics, paranormal.......... just about anything.

I look forward to getting to know you all and following some new blogs!

Hi Kat! Great to have you on here, and be sure to add your blog in our blogging section so everyone will be able to find it there too!!! Welcome!!

Maybe you will be able to get your dose of estrogen while you are here!! :-)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Hey Kat!! Glad to see you! You have a lot of men in your life!!! I would think reading is one way to escape all that testosterone! lol. I can't wait to check out your blog and to see you around on here!
Do you write reviews for your blog? What kind of things do you talk about on it?

I do Cambria. I am an eclectic reader so you will find reviews including all different genres. So if you have a favorite genre, you are likely to find a review on there. I also have my yearly reading challenges there, which I desparately need to update.

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 34 comments Thanks Amy! Any place that I can escape from the men in my life is great!

I think that is what draws many of us to reading, it is one of the best escapes I can think of - other than a nice massage on the beach..... :-)

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 34 comments A massage on the beach performed by Gerard Butler...... ok, wait.... now I'm dreaming! :)

Ah, a well read woman!! I wish I could claim to be as diverse....maybe someday. :)

message 216: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Hahaha. Ladies....now we are talking....although where did Gerard Butler come from??? This is a BOOK review group....shouldn't we choose men to do the massaging from the books we liked best???
NAH forget that. What was I thinking, I don't discriminate. A hot guy is a hot guy. Bring on the beach.
I'd like to propose a conference for Creative Reviews group....in Hawaii. Who's in?

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 34 comments Ok Cambria... we can still do that with Gerard Butler :) ..... He has played "Dracula" ... he's played "Beowulf".... and of course one of my all time favorites.... He played "The Phantom" from Phantom of the Opera.

Those count....right????

Now back to my massage on the beach performed by him...... ahhhhhhh

message 218: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments I loved phantom of the opera....I saw it on broadway when i was a teenager. It was good.

So Kat - I will say you have EXCELLENT taste and I say we go with your idea!! :-)

message 220: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments I love it too. I think it is a beautiful story....have you ever seen it performed?

message 221: by Amy Eye (new)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
Yes - and when I was in high school - I paid to go see it twice in one summer at the Fox Theater in STL. It was GORGEOUS!!

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 34 comments A couple of years ago, I took my best friend and her daughter to see it on stage for their birthday. My youngest son was taking French in school at the time and he decided he wanted to go too.... He loved it! We now have the book and the movie here at home. It lasted almost 3 hours and we all thought it wasn't long enough!!!

This coming fall...we are going to see Les Mis... one more to add to my favs

Kat (A Journey In Reading) (ajourneyinreading) | 34 comments Oh and Amy..... anyone should be able to tell what my fav is....all they have to do is visit my blog :)

Oh my gosh, Les Mis....another that is just beautiful, I use the song, "On My Own" for a lot of theater auditions, it is such a beautiful song!

message 225: by J.A. (new)

J.A. Clement (jaclement) | 1328 comments Have you ever read the book of Phantom? Gaston LeRoux I think - really interesting read. Not the same as the show but good.

Has anyone seen "Love Never Dies"? I read a really snobby review slating it;said there was a particularly silly scene where the Phantom takes Christine's son and is teaching him to play the violin and all skeletons jump up and start playing the violin, and wasn't that ridiculous?

I read the review and thought "Skeletons playing violins?!? WANT TO SEE...!!!"
heheheh

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments I have never seen Le Mis of course I hear it is great. There is something really beautiful about Phantom of the Opera....I love the music. We saw Beauty and the Beast on broadway too. It was nice.

message 231: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (bookishevents) Okay so I didn't know where this fit, but I thought being a review group I'd share the info I just learned for other reviewers in the group that always post their books around on the different bookseller and reading groups. Did you know Amazon won't let you post a review of a prerelease book even if you can prove you've already read it? I won a copy of Hexed pre-release in a Goodreads giveaway and you know with those you aren't required to, but should post a review on those because that's the whole point of the giveaway so I was doing my rounds to the different sites I'm on and when I went to post to Amazon there was no button so I got on chat with customer service and they told me I couldn't post my review even if it was a positive review and I cold prove I read the book until it was officially released on June 7th. Barnes and Noble and Borders will let you post reviews early, but not Amazon. It's really irritating because I can almost guarantee that by the time June 7th gets here I'm going to totally forget to post the review.

Yup, I'm not really sure why Amazon will not let you post a review before the release date, but they refuse any early reviews - sometimes they have their own group of early reviewers review certain books before they are released, but I'm not sure how that program works. Most other places (Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc) are more than happy to accept them beforehand. Maybe set something up on your calendar on your phone to remind you to post the review. That is what I do!! :)

message 233: by Jenn (last edited May 29, 2011 06:04PM) (new)

Jenn (bookishevents) Amazon's group Vine is by invitation only and is based on the amount of reviews you write and the amount of helpful votes you get on those reviews. I don't know the exact requirements of reviews and votes, but I know that much. I kind of have a goal of getting invited to Vine, it's part of the reason I've gotten so interested in reviewing. I just think that being good enough at writing reviews to be invited to a major site's review group would be too cool. Right now I've got no where near enough votes or reviews but I keep hoping. It's why on my blog in my little about me box I ask people to mark my reviews helpful on Amazon if they enjoyed reading them. I really want to be invited into that group.

message 234: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Thats a really great goal to have Jenn. Keep writing the reviews and you will get there someday!

J. (jgunnargrey) Hello, everyone, may I introduce myself? I'm both a writer and a rabid reader/reviewer, and while my favorites are mysteries and histories, almost any genre short of erotica is fair game. I do prefer to review indie and self-pubbed authors, and must admit to giving preference to those I know (although I'm always honest in the review). Here's my blog:

http://the1940mysterywriter.wordpress...

Oh, and I also blog about forensics through history and host a series of guest blog posts about epublishing, written by those authors actually doing it.

Thanks!

But the opportunities for writers is great too. I am a firm believer that a good book can find readers if you put yourself out there.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) I don't think I ever introduced myself. I'm not a writer, just a reader who loves reviewing. I've been reviewing since the late 90's (that makes me sound so old!) and review here and on Amazon and have reviewed for various websites over the years. Currently I'm trying to put a dent in my own tbr pile and reading whatever catches my eye. I don't have a blog, it sucked up too much of my time and I prefer spending my time here or reading instead.

I admit, I didn't look to see where you are from but from the email you sent me the other day when you said it was 'tea' time I wondered if you weren't in the US. Are you by chance from England?? I have told my hubby for years now that I was meant to live in England.... :)
