Marc Johnson (marcjohnsonbooks) | 13 comments Thanks for the invite. My reviews are sporadic and erratic. I'm usually more brutal with mainstream fiction than I am with indie or small press stuff (trying to lend a helping hand) but I really don't like the idea of saying someone's book is good when it's not. So there it is. And here it is... Marcjohnsonbooks.wordpress.com

Either way. I love my work being associated with causing lazy eyes and humpback. It's my muse.

Ben Carroll (bencarroll) | 6 comments Hey all!

I'm Ben, I blog at http://learningtoreadten.blogspot.com/ about literary and comic fiction, mostly, and a bit of writing and funny stuff on the side.

I'm pretty new to GoodReads, but this seems the best place to find other book blogs and get involved in some booktalk. Am I right?

message 117: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (nataliejean) Hi Ben,
I am new here too, its a great website and everyone is very welcoming, you have come to the right place :)

message 118: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 46 comments Amy, thanks that is a great idea :o) I think for me, I am better at writing the quick to the point reviews and I try to not say too much that happens in the story.

message 119: by Amy Eye (new)

Hi Ben! Welcome to the group!! I think you have come to the perfect spot for some great booktalk! Everyone is more than welcome to add their own posts for discussion! I want everyone to feel this is not just my group, but theirs as welll. I want one big happy reading family! :-)

Natalie! Thanks for that! You are too sweet!

Mr. Steven, thanks! I used to not say anything about what was happening in the story either, but I learned, it helped people put what I was saying into perspective if I gave a short summary of the book.

Everyone make sure you keep looking around, you never know when something great may pop up! Authors, be sure to utilize this fantastic group of people who are here that could be the perfect person to review your next book, or maybe even an older one you want to revitalize!

This group is so exciting because I love to hear what other people think about books and I would love to read some reviews and get into writing some of my own, which I haven't done yet. That sounds wonderful! When you get your books finished and you would like to have some people review it for you, we do have a place here in this group where you can ask for people to sign up to review it for you! I think this group is a great way for authors and readers alike to help one another!!

Casey (goochie) | 2 comments Hi all, new member as of about a week ago! Thanks for the invite! I write a lot of movie reviews for my own blog at http://www.cinemafromage.com and http://www.bloodygoodhorror.com if you fancy some more!

message 133: by Susan (new)

Susan (bookishrevelations) | 112 comments Thanks so much for the invite to this community. I think it's a fantastic idea and I would love to be a part of it. You can find my reviews over at my book blog: http://soulunsung.blogspot.com. I'm always looking for ways to improve my reviews and whatnot, sometimes they come from feelings I get from the book and sometimes I just talk about the book in general pointing out things I did like or didn't or weaknesses or strength.

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Hi Cassie!

message 139: by Susan (new)

Susan (bookishrevelations) | 112 comments Okay, I'm having an issue. My inbox is getting filled to the brim with every single comment that everyone else is making, it's pinging off of my server and it's making me really mad. Is there a way that I don't have to receive every comment that's made here from everyone else that doesn't pertain to my own comments that I make here? Because, I get email from a lot of other sources and other people, and I feel like I'm missing out on some of the mails I should be getting due to an influx from here and I don't know what to do about that. I don't want to receive an email from here every single time someone makes a comment that doesn't have to do with anything I've posted directly on here.

message 140: by Amy Eye (new)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
Yes, you can change how you receive notifications from your groups. Go to the top of the page, in the top right hand corner, you will see your picture with a drop down menu. Select "My Account" from there you will see a page that has a bunch of tabs on it. This is your "control center" for all of your settings on GoodReads. Select the tab labeled "Notifications". From there, you can switch all of your settings on how your receive notifications to your email from your groups and just about everything else! I hope this is the answer you were looking for!! :-)

Also, in the future, whenever you join a group, it gives you an option about how you would like to receive notifications from the group. I'm not sure which ones it gives you right now, but I think there are three different options you can choose from.

message 141: by Amy Eye (new)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
I went to find out what the options were when joining a group for everyone who may be interested. These are the choices that we have when joining a group, be sure to check out the options that go along with it in your "my account" section Just in case you are having the same issues Suz is having. :-)

group discussion email settings
Digest - Get all comments on group discussions bundled in a daily or weekly email (the frequency is configured on your 'my account' page).

Individual Email - Get an email instantly when someone starts a new topic in this group, and whenever someone replies. You will not get a second notification email about a topic until you've visited the discussion. Warning: for larger groups, this could get a little bit out of control!

Notification only - Don't get any emails, just get notifications on your homepage of new discussion comments in this group.

None - Do not get any notifications about group discussions. You can change this later on the 'my account' page.

message 142: by Susan (new)

Susan (bookishrevelations) | 112 comments Thanks Amy, for that. I felt like a lot of my other emails were getting buried, because I was getting so many comments from here and I couldn't figure out how to make it be digest so that I wouldn't have to deal with too much.

And as for the recent email that I just sent you, I hope you don't think I'm trying to play hardball with your or be hard headed. I just feel a certain way and felt like I owed it to you to be honest, as I like to keep honesty prevalent in any relationship that I have with someone. :)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
I'm glad that I was able to help! And as far as the email goes, I have responded to you! :-)

message 144: by Susan (new)

Susan (bookishrevelations) | 112 comments Yes, I know that you have as far as the email goes, and I see that we are at an impasse because I have a very different opinion than you do and I will be shooting an email over to Christopher later this evening. :)

And yeah, I'm still getting individual emails from here and I have it marked for digest version, so I don't know what's up with that.

Steve Lowe (steve_lowe) | 7 comments Popping in to say hi to everyone, then coloring with embarrassment over the fact that I just used the term "popping in." I'm really not British.

I'd also like to use my first post to break Amy's one rule here and say that all of my reviews are stupid because they just are, and I'm a stupidhead for posting them. Fart.

message 146: by Amy Eye (new)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
Ok, Steve, that is your one time I will let you break the rule, and only because Kirk told me to let it go. Mr. Cameron saved you....

Kirk and I are tight like that because I got him out of a jam once. They still haven't found the hooker's body because I'm a professional. You're welcome, Kirky.

message 148: by Susan (new)

Susan (bookishrevelations) | 112 comments Okay, I'm still receiving every single comment. I need to not be receving them all.

message 149: by Amy Eye (new)

Amy Eye | 1841 comments Mod
It is probably because you commented on this topic, so you will probably continue to receive them. In the email that you receive states: "You're currently following all posts on this discussion, You will not get another email about this discussion until you visit it on goodreads. If you wish to edit email notifications on when people reply to this discussion, click here: " You could try clicking on that link and maybe playing around with the settings to see what works best for you.

I know if you do not go back to that discussion it will not send you anymore notifications until you go back to view, at least that has been my experience with the settings that I have set up, and I think it mentions that in the e-mail as well. I'm not sure how you have your settings so you may need to play around with them a bit until you get them the way you would like.

message 150: by Susan (new)

Susan (bookishrevelations) | 112 comments Okay, I understand now. I was getting confused there for a minute and the only reason it was starting to bother me is, because I'm getting so much mail from this particular topic that my inbox (with all of the other mail I'm getting from elsewhere) is starting to get ping-backs or some of it is starting to bounce off of the server and my box is getting too full to hold all of my mail and I'm afraid I'm missing something that could be important.

That's the only reason that I'm like gah, at the moment. If I could just get everything in digest form once a day from here, instead of several little messages one behind another then I would totally be okay with that. And I've been trying to play around with my settings and for some reason, I can't figure out how to get them set right to a point where I can be happy with them. So, I'm sorta getting frustrated with that, I hope you understand.

It's just been a really stressful week for me, with my gran's surgery and everything else going on. That, my head just feels a bit 'splodey right now. So, you're seeing me at pretty much my snaptastic worse, and I really do hate that. So, I hope you don't hold anything against me. This is normally who I am, I just have A LOT on my plate right now and it's hard to deal with it all and keep my sanity a bit.
