E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 53 comments This is what I read about it:
Flash fiction is a piece of a story where you are thrust directly into the action and don't know the reasons why what is happening, is happening. You have to have it be less than 750 words usually and try to show as much description and intensity as possible. You have to make the flash fic understandable though when you thrust them in.

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments OH!!!!!! There's a lot of that about lately...

message 153: by E.J. (new)

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 53 comments It seems to be a pretty new concept, but i don't know if it'll stay.

message 154: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments Yeah... It'll probably get old after a while, but for now it's good. ;)

People seem to like to confuse people...

Carli (squid1998) | 35 comments Hey! I'm Carli! I know I'm sort of late joining, but I'm really excited to be part of something! I really want to be a writer when I grow up (I'm only thirteen, but I am an avid reader!) and some of my favorite books include "Kissed By An Angel", "A Wrinkle in Time", and the "Artemis Fowl" series! Oh, and I love confusing people too! Hippopotamontrosusquipidaliophia! Trust me, it IS spelled right!

message 157: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments Hi Carli! It's never too late to join anything that has to do with Goodreads! :D

message 158: by Carli (new)

Carli (squid1998) | 35 comments So, about this 'flash fiction' thing... Can someone please elaborate on it? It seems sort of random to me!

message 159: by E.J. (new)

E.J. (ejschoenborn) | 53 comments It is random! It's like a chapter in the middle of a story is cut out and put on paper.

message 160: by Carli (new)

Carli (squid1998) | 35 comments Okay...? That kind of sounds like something I would do!!! I have about nine short stories that I could do that with!

message 161: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments You pretty much just start writing something suspenseful but don't really know what it's about yet... Then you eventually turn it into a story. Most people just give it up after about a chapter because they don't know how to just continue...

Yeah, that's a good description of what it is.

message 163: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments Yeah.... and they don't know how to continue it because it suddenly becomes not-so-suspenseful and nobody cares about the story anymore...

message 164: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey Michael (jeffmichael) Hello all, I found GoodReads just a few days ago and find it very interesting. I found it when looking for an update on a series that I'm in the middle of reading. The author is a member so I checked it out. I love it, so many people reading so many different kinds of books. My primary love is Fantasy with Science Fiction a close second.

message 165: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments Hello Jeffrey! Welcome to my group!

message 166: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Baethge (22niel) | 11 comments Hi, I'm Sarah Baethge and I've just started out attempting to sell my own fiction. I have quick-published one story through Amazon/Smashwords. Most of what I write is Modern-Fantasy or science fiction. I also have always loved to read.

message 167: by Mark (new)

Mark Oetjens (MarkOetjens) | 2 comments Hi, My name is Mark and I'm new to Goodreads. Well, not exactly new. I've been a member for almost 2 years. But now I'm really trying to start taking an active roll and participating. Any direction on where and how to start using this great platform would be greatly appreciated.

message 168: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments Hi Sarah, hi Mark. A good way to start is by figuring out what you've read and want to read. If you can't think of everything at once, you'll notice other people have it when you interact with other people by looking at your friends updates, get recommendations, or see what people post as far as their favorite books. You can also take and make quizzes if you go to the explore drop arrow. You can also post your own writing if you go to creative writing under the explore drop arrow.

Have fun! I hope you all enjoy this group! :D

Sean McVeigh (seanmcveigh) | 6 comments Hi Everyone. My name is Sean McVeigh and I live in England, just outside Nottingham with my wife, two children and dog. I've been involved in fantasy since I started secondary school in the mid 80's. My fantasy related past-times have been either playing RPG's, reading hundreds of novels or writing stories. I'm influenced by R.A Salvatore, Terry Pratchett, David Eddings and Robin Hobb, to name but a few excellent authors.
I work from home spending hours each day writing, and am currently busy on my second novel in, The War on Magic series, due out in mid 2012.
In my spare time I run, take my dog on walks, play with my children and watch far too many films. I'm also passionate about VW campers and love nothing more than taking my 1973 bay to VW festivals in the summer.
I've a website, www.seanmcveigh.co.uk and can be found on Facebook.
I've posted my new novels synposis on the Authors page and added reviews. I look forward to hearing what you think.

message 174: by Paul (new)

Paul Vanderloos (paulvanderloos) | 2 comments Hi everyone, I am Paul and work as a journalist, but my love is writing fantasy. I was inspired by JRR Tolkien when I read The Hobbit and then Lord of the Rings. I also enjoyed Raymond Feist's Magician and Empire series. I love the Narnia series too, but admit only to seeing the movie versions. My own book is about an erfin (cat-like person) who is set on a mission to save the worlds from an encroaching darkness. I won't say more so I keep to your rules, and thank you for including me here.

Jefferson Davis (jeffroslammer) | 1 comments Hi all, name's Jefferson. I'm a long-time fantasy fan, but haven't been reading nearly enough lately (stupid video games!). Just joined Goodreads to find out what new stuff peeps are reading. Love Tolkein, Jordan, Eddings, Brooks; you get the idea. Hoping this group will kick me in the butt and make me read more to keep up with the conversations, also point me in the right direction on what to read next. I live in Portland Oregon right now with my wife, but moving to Maui in January.

message 181: by Sonya (new)

David (whovian223) | 3 comments I'm Dave, and I'm a huge SF fan, have been for most of my 41 years. I'm more into Fantasy than hard science fiction, but I do love the annual "Best of" science fiction collections as well.

I've been on Goodreads a while now, but have mainly been using it to keep track of the books I've been reading. Decided to jump into a group or two and see what happens!

My favourites are Jennifer Fallon and Kage Baker (RIP).

message 194: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Edgerton (teresaedgerton) Hello, my name is Teresa. If Jim (up above) is way old at 44, I must be primeval at 62. I read and write fantasy. "The Lord of the Rings" literally changed my life when I first read it at 16 or 17. I still love High Fantasy, Heroic Fantasy, Epic Fantasy ... all that sort of fantasy with its subtle, overlapping distinctions (which are not the same for everyone anyway, so why did I bring them up?) but it's not the only fantasy I love these days.

message 195: by Connor (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 1324 comments Hi Teresa! I changed my mind about my dad being way old at 44, lol... Lord of the Rings probably would have changed my life, but I didn't really have much of a life when I read them.
