R2 TEAM THREAD: Team #4 May the 4ce Be with You [THIRD PLACE]

I agree with you all, BDB makes me blush and giggle and I'm 40!!!!! It's awesome!!! Talk about dreaming of an alter-ego.... I think maybe I'll be Beth for a day or two; couldn't handle more than that... tsk tsk :)

I'll be looking forward to your review, Daffodil. I'll be reading that trilogy for the Fantasy Baseball challenge. Ames said it was very good. Plus, I love Dexter, so I should love John too.
Thanks, Tania! "I think maybe I'll be Beth for a day or two; couldn't handle more than that... tsk tsk :) " LOL! Wouldn't that be nice!? >:)

Rating: 4 stars
Review: Much darker and more graphic than I expected a young adult/teen book to be, I still enjoyed I Am Not A Serial Killer. It's almost impossible not to draw comparisons between John Wayne Cleaver and Dexter. Both are atypical heroes, sociopaths with no understanding of emotion and determination to protect the "innocent" from themselves. Dexter has his Dark Passenger. John has his Monster behind a wall, a wall built out of rules to combat his own sociapathic inclinations and which he struggles to maintain constantly. Dexter was taught The Code of Harry by his foster father, but John has had to reasearch what constitutes bad behavior and formulate rules for himself. A big difference lies in John's unwillingness to kill at all. Afraid that letting his monster out from behind the wall to kill would totally unleash it, John struggles with what to do when a demon begins killing residents of his home town and it seems he is the only person capable of stopping it. The demonic aspect of the killer, the only fantasy element in the book, seems almost secondary and unnecessary until you take into consideration that this is exactly the impetus needed for John to overcome his reluctance to deal with the killer. Regular methods won't stop the demon and nobody is going to believe the truth, so John has to deal with the situation on his own. John, just starting high school, hasn't yet learned the surface charm typical of a sociopath, but I find myself liking him despite myself. He's terrifying and I wouldn't want to draw his attention in real life, but I still found myself hoping he would come through everything okay. I will definitely read the next book in this series.

Join us for trilogy reads, AH. >:)
Vivian, have you decided on your YA read? I'm interested in how Angel Burn was, if you chose that one.
Hope everyone's enjoying their read, whatever it is. :)

Good review Daffodil!

Man, lots of us in slumps, huh. Sucks. Maybe Angel Burn will be the slump killer. :)

Hope the slump goes by fast.

I'm enjoying Grave Peril too, but I think I just needed something that seemed like an impulse read to change things up. Trying to pick books that fit for challenges may have been bogging me down a bit.

Escape: the one thing Finn, Keiro, and Attia have yearned for since the beginning. Finn -- the lucky one, the one of royal blood -- now has it in his clutches and yet yearns for the soothing feeling of content. Outside is not the pretty paradise it’s supposed to be. Still plagued by doubts about himself and those around him, Finn, the long-lost prince, must rescue his oath brother Keiro and manage to ascend the throne that is rightfully his by birthright. As he struggles with messy court politics, Incarceron is making its own plans. It will do anything for freedom, for a glimpse of the Outside that its escaped son Sapphique has described. Sapphique: the implanter of dreams, the owner of the Glove, the answer to all this strife?
This book begins right after the conclusion of Incarceron. And although I found the first book to be a little slow pace-wise, Sapphique is action-packed from beginning to end and is definitely a step-up from Incarceron. I originally thought that the story couldn’t be extended that much further, as Incarceron already had a solid ending, albeit with some strings left untied. Well, I was completely mistaken. Sapphique is the book that ends the story and brings all the characters to some kind of peace, one way or another.
Unlike some other reviewers, I adored these characters as well. They love each other; they hate each other. They build their relationships upon jealousy and selfish desires, trust and self-sacrificing love. Their ultimate ambitions are obvious. Or are they…?

There will be no third installment, and I applaud Ms Fisher for not dragging out the series like countless other authors. Sapphique is a satisfying ending to a unique series. It has a certain... finality to it.
Tidbit of random: Whilst reading Incarceron back in 2010, I had no idea the word incarcerate had a meaning or even existed. It wasn’t until the criminal justice unit in US Government this semester that I realized. Imagine my surprise...!

Good review, Cinnamon. I haven't read those, but sounds interesting as well.
Gettin' pretty close to our next stamp, team! Way to go! Hope everyone else is enjoying their reads too.

I read the first book at the beginning of the year and loved it. I should have read it again before starting this one. I had forgot parts and I felt a bit lost in the first 150 pages. This was a great second book. Once again I found myself surprised a few times. You know like a thump to the head Didnt see that coming!!!...the ending was a KMM cliffhanger. Before I read the third book I want to read the first two again. I love this world and the characters. I find myself hoping for a movie and as I read I cast the roles.

New shelf announcement will be posted very shortly, so stay tuned!
We are doin' great, team! We have our first three stamps (2 shelves + free space) and are very close to our paranormal (7/8) and ya-fantasy (6/8) stamps! YAY! Great job! :D

I'll be reading ... for 'demons':

It's been a while since I've visited with the demons of UGH.

...it is a snow storm out here and i have a sore throat so I'll be cuddling up on the couch under a massive quilt for an afternoon of reading, house to myself....bring on the unicorn!!!

I'm almost done with my YA read, and then back to my paranormal. Now that I'm out of the slump, just gotta find the time to read...

Completed March 31, 3/5 stars
After completing this read, I really wished that I had read this right before "Eclipse". I found it hard to get into, as I forgot a lot of what I had read in the "Twilight" series. So if you plan on reading this, maybe reread that before you delve into this.
I have tried to avoid spoilers.....
Really enjoyed Bree's character which was smart, spunky and had this innocent vampire thing going. Lots of violent vampire kills, thirsts and fights; especially within this newly created vampire clan full of young vamps. This novella leads up to a face-off, which IMHO wasn't detailed enough and despite having problems getting into this book, I found myself wanting it to end differently and to pursue Bree's relationship with Diego and following their maturing understanding of what they have become.
Definitely not my favorite, but the characters held such promise!

Pasting my review, so it's a little long, sorry.
This book sucked me in from the get go. Weatherly's spin on angels is unique and pretty much awesome. These are not angels you want to be touched by. There were parts of the book I really enjoyed, and a few things I wasn't crazy about, but overall a very engaging read.
Willow is a girl with some psychic abilities and Alex is an angel assassin. They meet, run from the killer angels, and ultimately fall for each other.
We get a pretty good look at who Willow and Alex are as their relationship develops, but the romance aspect was played up a little too much, in my opinion. There are the "irresistible urges" to touch each other, proclamations of love and devotion, and pages of kiss after kiss.
Enough of the mushy stuff, let's get back to the action and annihilating those angels! There's plenty going on in that department too - car chases, shoot-outs of a sort, lots of fun action. And the angels, the way they're described, you can just visualize them sucking the life out of their prey.
While I like the writing style in general, I'm not sure I ever got completely used to the changing POVs. We get the story from both first person (Willow) and third person (Alex and others), which for me was a little strange.
I'm going to end with a thank you to Ms. Weatherly for not including a love triangle in this book.
Going to read

The third book of the Demonica series features Wraith. I was always scared of this brother - he was always self destructive and nasty in the earlier books, but in this book he shines. We get some insight into his background and why he acts the way he does. In this book I was pleasantly surprised to see a "human" side to Wraith, a side capable of love and caring. Wraith is infected with a toxin that will kill him in the next 4 to 6 weeks. His only recourse is to have sex with a "charmed" virgin and get a hold of her amulet. Not hard work for a seminous demon, but Wraith falls hard for Serena.
I loved the side story featuring Gem and Kynan. It was also nice to see the other brothers with their mates as well. I also liked the introduction of Lore.
The world building in this series is extensive. There are many different species of demons, angels, fallen angels, vampires, and weres. I'm off to find the next book in the series.

Nice review:).

I finished my book for 'demons'
4/3/11 ~ 4★

I really enjoyed this book. It was LOL funny, had some cool twists on elves, demons, vamps, shifters, angels and the talented humans that help them. I thought the heroine was decent. She was snarky and for the most part, not TSTL. She was realistic with her lust for Ion, the hottie incubus who comes to her for help finding his missing succubus sister. She's hot for him, but Duh! Incubus! But, she realizes that and doesn't try to make like it's true love, enough though it is lust at first sight. ;) The battles were cool, esp with all the different supes runnin' around. I love reading about worlds where so many different types of supes mingle and mix.
The LOL lines in this book were plentiful. Check out my status updates for some of them. I loved the side characters, as well. All very strong and hope to see more of them in future books. Phin, the horny unicorn was adorable with his butt biting and panty drawer nappin'.
I'll definitely be continuing with the series.

CONGRATULATIONS, Team!

Hi team!
We're doing so great! I'm just under one third done, so will post my review on my new iPad (Yee Haw I got it for my birthday) as soon as I am done.

And yay for the iPad - if I had one of those, I'd never get anything done...
I think I started the Demonica series once upon a time and it didn't really do it for me but a lot of people really seem to like it. Might have to give it another go some day.

5 stars.
Review: Sabina Kane is one of those ass-kicker girls, with attitude bursting at the seams. Pretty much along the lines of every other urban fantasy girl, but this is one of those rare cases where the girl has justifiable reason to have a cynic outlook on life. Her grandmother –who Sabrina seems to respect immensely for some reason– treats her like a pariah because of what she is: half mage, half vampire. And those just happen to be two waring races.

Glad you enjoyed RHS, Jo. I love that series.

And lucky Tania with an iPad, Yay!!

I'm almost caught up to everyone, finished my _paranormal read so we can get our stamp!
Grave Peril
4.5.11 ****
Book 3. I'm really adoring this series even if it causes me anxiety. Harry gets caught up in more life-threatening situations. It's just non-stop action, and I had a hard time putting it down last night to get some sleep. This installment introduces us to the different vampire courts, and Michael, a Knight of the Cross who uses faith to help Harry fight the baddies. Harry comes to terms with his feelings for Susan, and while I thought I like Murphy, her absence wasn't even noticeable in this story.
