There was a five or six year wait between books 4 and 5 - hopefully it'll be significantly less than that before book 6 makes it to the shelves!

message 853: by P. (new)

P. Sorry I'm behind but a blog I wrote got posted early and I have to monitor. I'm reading the Song of ice and fire - I actually finished all 5 but was so taken with the perils of pauline chops of Martin that I started the first one again. I'm also reading The Book of J by Harold Bloom [NF] and another NF Travels in the Ancient World. What are you reading?

message 854: by Susan (new)

Susan Been "hookin'" for a while - I'm old! LOL
I bet I've made a couple hundred crocheted "blankets" over the years. Good for you!
Have you ever read the book "Camel Crochet"?

(figured I should talk 'book') to keep with theme!LOL

message 855: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Lol, I've only just learnt. I'm making my first one. I'm really proud, I keep telling everyone how I'm doing lol. No I haven't.

(Don't worry about it, we never do. lol.)

message 856: by Susan (new)

Susan CAMEL CROCHET was supposedly written by an older gentleman - he discovered a way to crochet FASTER. I ordered it years ago, but abandoned it for some reason. I also NEVER use the same pattern twice! Makes it more of a challenge after all these years of crocheting.

message 857: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Lol, I can only do one stitch. Mainly because it's the only one my mum could teach me. XD

message 858: by Susan (new)

Susan I can look at a completed project and determine the pattern! THAT only comes with experience (and love of crochet) I sometimes crochet xmas wreaths too - EASY and fun.. and very appreciated by the recipient!
I only crochet what I WANT to... never take an order! It will take all the fun out of it! Crocheted 'baskets' were interesting also

message 859: by Susan (new)

Susan If you can single, double and treble, you can make a wreath.

message 860: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) That's awesome! I want to be able to do that! It probably won't happen but I can hope.

message 861: by P. (new)

P. It was years and years and the grumbles from fans! But I never heard of the series until it started on HBO [which I don't get but saw a bit] and decided to give it a try. The Winds of Winter [I think] is the next and he's written 500 pages the last I heard.

message 862: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) I learnt to crochet thanks to youtube. It was the only thing that could make me understand :P

Char (CharmaineElaine) Jeshu wrote: "I learnt to crochet thanks to youtube. It was the only thing that could make me understand :P"

Awesome! I'm finding a whole group of crocheters.

message 864: by Susan (new)

Susan Char wrote: "That's awesome! I want to be able to do that! It probably won't happen but I can hope."

hope is a good thing! LOL

you will recognize stitches as YOU create them.. then as OTHERS crochet them... you be able to say "I know that!"

message 865: by Susan (new)

Susan I'd like to think there are more of "us" out there but are afraid to look "old" by their peers. I was afraid it would be a dying art for a while. I taught a class once with 4 "girls" who thought it was only for old ladies! They loved it.

message 866: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Haha, but I'm left handed so learning is more difficult. I'm not going to pretend I'm a crocheting diva. XD

message 867: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) Char, I totally understand how you feel. I'm left handed too, and learning was hell! I almost gave up, but I managed to learn in the end

message 868: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) It was so bad. I'm glad you learned! It's so awesome.

i'm a "hooker" too! i've actually been trying to find books that has easy ripple baby blanket instructions!

oh, and i really liked Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . i forgot it was YA until she mentioned she was 16.....i liked the world of divergent, where life was based on your temperment...(bad teacher! misspelled that!). some parts were predictable but i didn't mind that...it made me feel smart. :)

for some reason, i could NOT get into 1984 by George Orwell

message 870: by Susan (new)

Susan Lara wrote: i'm a "hooker" too! i've actually been trying to find books that has easy ripple baby blanket instructions! ..."

oooo ripples are tough cookies! I've done them a couple of different ways. My first kept getting wider and wider... I was adding stitches and didn't realize - riiiiiip - out came over 20 rows! aaaurg

I bet I've got some good and easy instructions somewhere - you should SEE my craft room! I have more pattern books than I could ever make in two lifetimes!

Cate, I have asked you before. Can you please stop posting your blog links. If you continue ignoring me, I will delete every post on this thread where you've added your blog link. This is for what you're reading, not what you've just reviewed.

If anyone thinks I'm being harsh, if you check the previous post, I have told her before.

I'm not reading anything because I've head a headache that will not leave me alone for the past two days... But I've now had both Dune and Clive Barker's Books of Blood 1-3 by Clive Barker thrust upon me with orders to read them. Looks like I'll be starting my Hallowe'en reading a little early if the bf gets his way.

I'm not much of a poetry person either. I admire it but I don't really read it and haven't written any since I was an angst-ridden teenager *cringe*. The last poetry anthology I read was Rapture which I did enjoy.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry. I totally missed that first message. And no, it's totally fair of you to reprimand me. It's my mistake and I apologize.

Thomas Wilson (StorytellerTDW) | 9 comments I am reading Ishmael, and I wonder why I just now am finding this diamond in the rough. It is like reading the Psalms in that you have to read a bit and then think about it and digest it. I Love Intelligent Books. This is one that the more experienced and educated you become the more you will get out of it. I highly recommend it so far, not finished reading it yet.

I've moved on to Madame Bovary, which, so far, is better than I expected it to be!

I'm coupling it with Ragnarok, which is about the Norse myths. It's written like myths, too, very detached - I have to actually pay attention to make sure I don't miss any details or I can't keep up with it!

message 893: by Susan (new)

Susan Just finished The Help - the only NON PNR I've read in a long while. Ehhhhh - it was OK.

It was the authors FIRST NOVEL! And now it's a movie?! WOW

The ending was unsatisfactory. Not a cliff hanger, just not a "real" ending.

I agree. I didn't see the point of this book. She should have just published Rapture and left it as a trilogy.

I didn't like P&P&Z anywhere near as much as Dawn of the Dreadfuls. It was pretty average IMHO.

Dierdra just above the comment book there's a thing that says "add book/author" if you click that and type in what you're reading you can either have it come up as a link like this: The Book Thief or as a picture like this: The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Hope this helps. :)
