"Doomed" and on your way to becoming an alcoholic.

Actually, it's easy, Tania. Just sit down, open a vein, and start writing.

Mel (the3jsmom) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Melinda and I am a book-a-holic. I read all the time, I am so grateful for my kindle and nook apps b/c I can read all the time w/o lugging a book a round. My book-a-holic love has rubbed off on two of my three kids. They can be caught in the car, store or plenty of other places with a book.

message 303: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porterak) I love catching people with a book and telling them that they are doomed because they are addicted and that they even still try to deny it. Love that! The first step is admitting the addiction right? :)

message 304: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kshelley83) | 17 comments @Amanda,

That's EXCELLENT. I was doomed a long time ago myself...

Kathy Gray | 2 comments Hi my name is Kathy and I am a
Book-A-Holic I have lots and lots of books everywhere in the house. I started reading very young. My grandfather always called me the bookworm. I can't seem to get rid of any of my books, much to my husbands' dismay. I would absolutely love to have a job either at a bookstore or at a library, or anything else that would allow me to be around books all the time.

message 306: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all. My name is Kasi, i'm a bookaholic.

Lets face it...there are worse things to be addicted to? I'm not sure if i'm actually a bookaholic or just a desperate imaginative. I may have blurred the lines a fewe times between reading, writing and attempting to live the books. At 24 i'm not sure you should actually have imaginary friends but sometimes the books seems so real? and I find that most times the best way to write is to actualy live out the characters. I hope i'm not the only person in the world who is this involved in their books? Though i'm not ashamed of it.

In the hopes to find my real friends to talk about books with i've joined this group.

Welcome to all the new Book-A-Holics we are proud to have you in our group and I hope this group fulfills your needs on expressing your love for books.

Stephanie Ann (stephanieann) Hi everyone!
My name is Stephanie and I too am a bookaholic. Unfortunately right now I am not around many people who enjoy reading or make the time to and I miss discussing the books I read. I love books and have them all over my house and some stored away but I am also addicted to my kindle because of the access element - being able to sneak and read on the computer or my phone and the book be on the page where I left off. So cool.

message 311: by Lindsey (last edited Feb 24, 2012 03:58PM) (new)

Lindsey (legidget) Hi! My name is Lindsey, and I'm a book-aholic.

I'm so excited to have discovered goodreads, and this group of fellow book-aholics!

I've loved reading for as long as I can remember. As soon as I learned how to read, books became my best friends and have remained so ever since.

I volunteer at a library and am quite obsessed with libraries. The best way to spend a weekend afternoon is browsing the aisles of a library, picking out books that you may not have noticed or picked otherwise!

I'll read anything once. If forced to choose a few favorite genres, my top 3 at the moment would be contemporary American, historical fiction and memoirs.

My favorite smell is 'old book,' and I'm a print loyalist.

message 312: by Christi (new)

Christi | 1 comments (holds flickering candle) I'm Christi and I'm a bookaholic. Addicted and incapable of passing a bookstore without stopping or hitting up Amazon without One-Clicking something (or five somethings). Just had to buy two more bookshelves for all my babies! Love a hard copy in my hands and love the Kindle portability. I obsessively keep reading lists and have way too many to-read piles around the house. Those pesky kids and job keep me from reading all day and night ...

I'm also a professional writer with one ghostwritten memoir and another in progress, with a third project on deck. Hope to add to everyone's bookshelves someday! :)

BTW I have a bunch of book porn on pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/christiprice) if you're into that kind of thing ... I'm talking book art, carved books, glorious bookshelves, color sorts, and a book cover board. Prepare to be mesmerized.

So great to find my fellow bookaholics! I look forward to getting to know everyone! Christi

message 313: by M.L. (new)

M.L. Hi, Flash Beagle here, I'm not sure if I'm a certified 'book-a-holic,' but maybe close - I went to B&N today, spent too much money, then came home and ordered 4 more books from Amazon, and in between I dropped 7 books back at the library, so I'm somewhat book crazy. I think the reading list here is great! I joined because of 1Q84 which I read and thought was fantastic and have read 2 more Murakami's since then.
Nice to be here!

message 314: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 1 comments Hi, my name is Kathryn and I'm a Book-a-holic. Got tired of trying to find places for all the books I owned, so I went out and bought a NOOK. Loving it!! :D I belong to several book clubs here on GoodReads and I enjoy talking with others about books and hearing their reviews and recommendations. I've read lots of books over the years and I'm trying to remember them all so they can be listed in my 'read book' shelf. It's a task that has become an addiction. {sigh}

Naomi (naominaoko) | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Naomi and I am a bookaholic! And I think that is a healthy addiction. I work part-time of after school so I could get the must-have books with great book reviews.Hope to know more wonderful books from this group! :)

Irene H (beansk) | 1 comments Hi! My name is Irene and I am a bookaholic! I work the graveyard shift at a hospital and all the nurses and doctors come to me to find out what they should read next!
My favourite books are:
To Kill A Mockingbird
Ender's Game
She's Come Undone
and
1984

message 319: by Lorri (new)

Lorri | 1 comments HI, I'm Lorri and, well, I'm a book-a-holic. I prefer buying books from thrift stores and library or other sales, but that even makes it worse. I think, if these books are $1, I can buy as many as I want. I have too many that I haven't even read yet. I'm working through them but keep buying more! Need help! hehe

message 320: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porterak) I have that same problem. I have all these books that I should be reading and I just keep going out and buying more and more and more. I'm trying to be good and read what I have but its hard when you go out and find a book at a really great price.

message 321: by Kristin (new)

Kristin Hello Wes and everyone else....I have never introduced myself. From the posts that I see though, I think I am in good company! My to-read shelf has graduated into being double stacked and I have a bedside table whose drawers are full of books too. I can't leave the house without two books that I am reading and if I go shopping I usually come home with a new stack (my favorite haunts are thrift shops...YAY GOODWILL!) and so I suddenly before I know it am in the middle of four books.

message 322: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Curtis (nstaubin84) Hi my names Nikki and I'm a book-a-holic.

Before I got my e-reader, I was buying books all the time, even when I still had a plethora of them to read on my book shelf. It's a nasty habit. (But the best habit of all time!)

Then I got my e-reader, and my book collection nearly tripled in size. The best part, I can carry all of them around with me. nearly 600 books in my backpack/purse at all times. Before, I'd always carry a paper back or two with me, now ... well you know. I'm glad to be here though. I only recently found out that good reads has groups, so I'm glad to finally have an active place where I can discuss books.

Anyone have suggestions? Let me know. I, of course, am not particularly picky about what I read as long as it's written well. A lot of books have gone unread because I felt the need to throw my book (or Nook) across the room because the first page alone took me an hour to read because I was fixing errors in my mind. (Yeah, OCD ftl.)

message 323: by Tash (new)

Tash Lea (nlg97) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Natasha and I'm a readaholic. It's not that I buy to many books, because I usually borrow them from friends, but I can't stop reading. I tell myself 'I'll only read one chapter before going to bed' but five hours later, I'm on the third book in that series. I visit the library almost every day and take about three books each visit.

Kelly (kshelley83) | 17 comments I'm with Natasha. I'm a library addict. My dream involves working FOR my library system.

message 325: by Valeria (new)

Valeria Kogan (valeriakogan) | 4 comments Hello. I am Valeria (pronounced Val-air-ee-ya) and I'm a bookaholic. It takes every once of self-restraint to stop myself going into every bookshop I pass, and even more to stop myself from spending all of my rent on books when I cross the theshold. I get a little sad if I don't have a pile of books waiting for me, and am a helpless spine-breaker, so I kill every book I read. You can tell which books are my favourites just by checking whether they're falling apart more or less than the rest.

message 326: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porterak) I wish I could learn to go to the library instead of spending all my money on books. My mom freaks every time I come home with a new book. And then drags me into my room and says why did you buy another book when you have all of these that you have to read. You are losing your mind. I said but it is a book and I just had to get it. She will never understand that a book will always be a must buy! :)

My husband bought me a kindle for Christmas and said "now you have this Kindle please can I have my wardrobe, drawers, cupboards, tabletops and shelf space back?" lol!! I do like my Kindle but for some reason the best thing for me is to hold a book, I have not got rid of any of my books and don't intend too but I still keep buying them..................... I just can't help it....... :)

I'm Ana and I'm a bookaholic. I guess i was a bit in denial for a while but I finally accepted my status when I received as presents for my brithday 4 books from 4 different people that I had already read! My friends' advice was 'you're obviously reading too much...maybe you should quit it for a while' :)However, instead of quitting I decided to join a group where I can find other '-aholics' :)So here I am...:)

Even though most of my book colletion has been read there are some that I have yet to get to but that doesn't stop me from buying more books no siree. I am just as bad with my nookcolor, once I read one nookbook I go right back to buy another and am constantly browsing the nookbook store. And now I am thinking about even getting a Kindle.

Mandy Hello my name is Amanda and I am a bookaholic. I love books. Walking into a bookstore is like heaven to me I can browse all day and never be bored. I honestly have no idea how many books I owned or how many I have read. But I love the way it feels to open a new book and smell pages. And I am very happy to say I have a husband that likes books and understand my love for them. And little boy who loves books as much as I do. Which probably why we have books everywhere, absolutely love books!!!!!!

Erin Merchant | 1 comments Hello, my name is Erin and I am a bookaholic. I will read just about anything and I will buy books no matter what. I must have something to read at all times. I re-read books frequently as well, given that my authors do not produce books at a rate consistent with my rate of reading.

message 339: by Patty (new)

Patty | 4 comments Hi, I'm Patty and I'm a book-aholic. There was a time during my 20s that I would call in sick to work because I couldn't put it down. I'm now 40 and I've since gotten the beast under control. Sure, I'll still sneak one into the stall during a bathroom break, but it's nothing I can't handle. At home, I have three floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, four short-stack shelves, and various landing posts for the overflow. Fiction, of course, is alphabetized by author, and non-fiction by topic. I LOVE my books! I enjoy sharing recommendations, but rarely lend out a volume. Somehow, they never return and I always feel the loss. I will read ANYTHING, any genre, that is well-written; I have a feeling you all know what I mean. Jean Auel, Orson Scott Card, John Irving, Christopher Moore, SM Stirling, Connie Willis, Kurt Vonnegut and so many other in between! Anyway, so so happy to find a group of like-minded readers!

message 340: by Christy (new)

Christy Rotunno | 1 comments Hi, my name is Christy and I am a book-a-holic. I currently have over 4000 books in my possession, packed in boxes because i do not have a room big enough to display all of them. I do have an overly large bookshelf in my sitting room with over 200 books on it, waiting to be read, half read, already been read, or just because. I look for books out of print mostly from the 70 and 80, and i prefer paperbacks over hardcover. If it is an author i cannot wait for, i will buy hardcover as soon as it comes out, otherwise i wait until paperback version is out. I keep a database with all my books, cataloged by author, title, and genre. I will sell or trade with anyone interested. I love to find a book that i have searching for, and unless i am to the breaking point desperate, i will not order online. The excitement in finding a long searched fir book in a bookstore is one of my greatest joys. I would love to have my own brick and mortar store someday, but in the meantime, i will keep visiting and buying from existing ones. I am not fond of audio books, and i find it difficult to read electronically (although i will do both given the circumstance). I love the smell, look, and feel of paper books, and my true drug is walking into a used bookstore and taking a deep breath. My favorite genre is romance, with horror (true horror, with ghosts and monsters and scary things under the bed horror) as a thisclose second. I also love historical fiction and stories that are very deep and moving. I however, will read anything that is available if i didn't have a choice, and have been known to read the dictionary on occasion. My favorite authors are Stephen king, diana gabaldon, Roseanne bittner, dean koontz, bentley little, deborah smith, and sarah addison. I am a true blue book lover and life long reader and can think of no other way to be.

message 341: by Shelby (new)

Shelby (gyngersf) Hey, everyone! My name is Shelby, and I am a crazed, obsessed, insane bookaholic. I have shelves and shelves and stacks and piles and bags and boxes full of books. I have a few *ahem, 75* books on my kindle. I am probably one of my library's most frequent visitors, and I have checked out about 65% of the kids and YA books they have. I have long, long, long lists of books to read, and an even longer list of books I have read. Ynfortunately, there's only one or two bookstores in my area that sell books/novels (NOT TEXTBOOKS!), and I am prepared to do whatever I can to change that. I am soooo happy to be in a group that understands me! Thanks!

Erika Rominger | 2 comments Hello, my name is Erika and I am definitely a bookaholic, I am actually searching for a book that I read when I was younger. It was about a teenage girl who didn't know how to swim, but one day when she was going to the lake she saw a boy who knew how to swim really well. Throughout the story she learns how to swim. And she tries to impress him one day by borrowing her older sisters swimsuit, and on her b-day her sisters buys her one of her own. In the end she gets upset about something and goes to the lake during a storm, but almost drowns but the boy saves her. Does anyone know what this book is? I don't even know any of the names. I know kind of vague but.....

message 345: by Pat (new)

Pat Adeff Hello, fellow addicts. My name is Pat and I'm a bookaholic. I do not have a fav genre. I tend to like any book, if it's well-written. I'm also a writer (romance novels, 13 plays, 1 screenplay, short stories, etc.) Not sure which I'm addicted to more: reading or writing. I'm currently working on a short story (SciFi Romance) that I'll be submitting to the Writers of the Future contest. Haven't written Scifi before now, so am having a very fun time!
