Cheryl (smmrgrl) | 6 comments Hello all - my name is Cheryl and I am a proud Book-a-holic.

I have 13 hardcover books waiting on my shelves to read, and I have about 30 sitting on my Nook that have yet to be opened. I can't help myself - if I see it and I like it, I buy it.

I also like to live at B&N - I show up at opening time, and stay for at least 8 hours, just browsing, sitting in those comfy chairs and reading, or eating lunch while I flip through a magazine. I love the smell of that place and I love handling the books too - this is one desire my Nook does NOT fulfill. LOL

Primarily, I like emotionally heavy stuff - books like Columbine, Still Alice, Revolutionary Road, The Road, The Poisonwood Bible, etc. Biographies run a close second - but they have to be about a person of some cultural significance, not like, say, Russell Brand. (Sorry to all you Russell Brand fans....) ;)

I'm currently reading A Widow's Story and hope to dive into The Pillars of the Earth once done.

It's great to be here, and I hope to chat with a lot of you as time goes on. :)

Kim (BritishLass929) (britishlass929) Hi. My name is Kim and I am a read-a-holic. I just turned 40, so next year will be the first anniversary of my 40th birthday! I am currently reading "Philadelphia Noir", a collection of short stories. I own a Nook which is always charged and overflowing.

I prefer to read fiction, but will delve into nonfiction occasionally - usually biographies. Right now I do not have as much time as I'd like to read as I'm undergoing chemotherapy and that scrambles my brain, but I'm almost done.

I was the geeky girl in the back of the room who never went anywhere without a book. I love almost all genres of fiction; although chick lit tends to grate my nerves (no offense to anyone) and I haven't been able to get into sci-fi. In college, I was such a lit nut that because they wouldn't let me take lit as a freshman, I took introduction to theater. I also thought it was a good idea to take a 400 level English class with a 400 level history class, so I read pretty fast.

Favorite authors are Stephen King, Jodi Picholt (misspelling I know), Janet Evanovich as a guilty pleasure and I'm starting to get into old gangster stories.

Sharon | 10 comments Hi Soad, where in the world do you manage to hide 600 books? I have at least that many and they take up half the garage!

Kim (BritishLass929) (britishlass929) Try putting a few hundred books into a one bedroom apartment! I have all my clothes in storage bins in the bedroom because I refuse to move the books from the closets!

Kelly (kshelley83) | 17 comments Hi I'm Kelly and I'm a bookaholic. I think I've gotten more upset over the closing of Borders than over some of the deaths in my family...We've just had some good times together. I'm happy that my local library is alive and well and feeding my habit though. I'm in between semesters right now and also off work so I've been cycling to the library weekly to somewhat keep myself satiated. I'm going to miss this tremendously when I have to go back to classes!

Whitney Rasmussen (whitras) | 1 comments Hello my name is Whitney and I am a book-a-holic! My favorite thing to do right when I buy one is to crack open the spine and smell the pages. Mmmmmmm. Best smell ever! I love immersing myself into the pages of a great book. I have boxes upon boxes full of books. Next thing on my list? Build a library in my house comparable to the one on Beauty and the Beast, floor to ceiling ladders included.

Shevon Higgins (never-enough-books) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Shevon and I am a book-aholic. I have an obsession with books of all sorts, though I have only recently journeyed in to the world of the classics. I love the feeling of a book in my hands and the smell of the pages make me feel at home. I love the places and times and worlds that a good book lets me explore. I mostly read fantasy and am currently writing my own 'sci-fi/fantasy' novel.
Thanks for a group that I know will be a good home.

Kim (BritishLass929) (britishlass929) Welcome to the group all!

message 275: by Ara (new)

Ara | 3 comments Hi everyone! I'm Ara and I'm a bookaholic. I'm only 16 yrs. old but I have already read over a 100 books just out of leisure. My bookshelves in my room are already filled that I had to transfer my other books in the attic. I love going to book sales and buying books for a lot less. When I don't have anything to do, I keep myself busy by reading books.

message 276: by Jessaka (new)

Jessaka Hi, my name is Josey, and I am a bookaholic. Whenever I can I get used books, and sometimes I feel one comes in the mail almost every day. Or I go to yard sales, used book stores. I keep having to buy bookcases, and now I have books on the floor. Like someone else on here I will buy books over clothes, but certainly not food.

If the library shuts down, it won't matter because I have enough to last me the remainder of my life, and if only I could read them all. I try, and then I take them to the library for their sales, but if they are really good I keep them.

I guess this is better than some addictions. ha.

Nina (marshnina) | 6 comments Hello everyone. My name is Nina and I am a bookaholic. I have been reading since I learned how to read and probally before that! I had a lot of books but have since gotten rid of them because I bought a Barnes and Noble Nook in July. Since then I have read I don't know how many books! Love my Nook! I go to the Barnes and Noble web site and look almost every day and will always check out the Free Friday Book

I am happy to have found this site.

Lisa Nienhaus (lisani) | 2 comments Reading all of your comments makes me feel so much better! My name is Lisa and I am a bookaholic. I don't think I ever want a Kindle as I love holding a book in my hands. I hope real books and libraries never go away. I am saddened by bookstores closing in my part of the world, and yet, I am a self admitted Amazon addict. I cannot stop buying books! I have about 100 I have yet to read, and still buy more books as they interest me, knowing "someday" I will get to them. I read on average 40 books a year, as that is all I have time for. My goal is 52 books a year. But I can't read as much or as often as I'd like to. So until I can retire into a reading oblivion, I must work to help pay for books! It's been a pleasure reading about other bookaholics!

message 286: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (porterak) Hi my name is Amanda but every one can call me Porter and I am a Book-aholic. I recently have come to find Goodreads and feel madly in love with the site. I have more free time in my life these days because of no school (which I know is not an excuse). Love all kinds of books really. Haven't come across one that I haven't like or hated. There may be small things in books that I don't like but it doesn't stop me. Love recommendations for books to read and will take friend request to see if some of your books might interest me.

message 287: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1 comments Hi...my name is Samantha...and I am a BOOK-A-HOLIC. LOL Books are my happy place. I've got books in every room of my home. I was going to say we don't have them in the kitchen, but yes...yes we do. We have a lovely basket of various genres in the bathroom. Bookcases brimming to overflowing in the bedroom. Piles on the end-tables in the living room. You get the idea ^-^. I started reading around the age of 3 and never looked back. I have two book-a-holic dreams: the first is to have a home library like Belle has in Disney's Beauty and the Beast *don't we all?!* and the second is to one day own my own little bookstore for people just like me...who live in what I like to call "bookish squalor". I'm a very neat person but I build book forts on my husband's side of the bed when he is away on business trips LOL. In any event, that will have to wait until I am healthy enough to do more than read all day *I'm disabled*. I prefer physical books but due to my medical issues I've accepted that having an ereader was a must for me so I now have a Kindle and am slowly filling it with my favorites so I can take my books with me when I leave. I go through "phases" with my books as far as what I like to read but I read all genres *I just might be stuck on one for long periods lol* Well that about sums me up. I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one who has piles of books in every room ^-^ <3<3 and happy reading!

message 288: by Anne (new)

Anne | 1 comments Hi, my name is Anne and I am definitely a book-a-holic. Or as a friend once commented to another friend; this is Anne, she eats books. I am 55 years old, and live by myself in Oslo, Norway in a flat with books in every room, plus in 18 boxes in the basement (the shelves couldn't take more books and the rooms couldn't take more shelves). Last year I bought a Kindle and I love it, but still I buy books in paper as well. My favorite thing to do is browsing in bookstores, that is what I do when I am happy and when I am sad and everything in between :)I just recently found goodreads and I am feeling like a kid in a sweets shop. So many books and so many people who love to read!

message 289: by Ingrid (new)

Ingrid Hi, my name is Ingrid and I'm a book-a-holic. I have books in nearly every room of our apartment. I too like to build up piles of books in the rooms. Just looking at them makes me very happy. Anne's words could have been mine, I love browsing in bookshops. Even on holidays bookshops are our favourite, so we mainly visit countries where there are many! I'm a volonteer for the library, I take books to people who can't go to the library themselves. It's very hard to browse around in the library for them and not take any books out for myself. I have an I-pad with loads of books on them, but I notice it hasn't changed my habit of buying books, fortunately.Happy reading all!

Ronald Jr. (mrgriff757) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Ron and I'm a bookaholic. I have a library in my house and books are everywhere. I have also just published my first book on July 6th titled Prepare for the Worst and Pray for the Best: A Layman's guide to Surviving a Nation gone bad I hope that my first attempt at writing my own book is worthy of so many bookaholics.

cazdoll | 2 comments Hi everyone my name is Catherine an I'm a Book-A-Holic, I love browsing book stores on my day off or the library choosing my books carefully, I counted my books last week after re organizing them on the book shelf, and I have 167 in my bedroom :) I love books

message 292: by Michele (new)

Michele | 3 comments Hi my name is Michele and I am definitely a Book-a-Holic. Between myself, my husband, and my kids, we own literally thousands books. I am a school librarian, but I think that only makes it worse as I read a lot of reviews and have an excuse to go "shopping." Just tonight I stopped at a bookstore looking for a present. Of course the Barnes & Noble did not have the book I was looking for...so I wandered into another section and bought the third book in a series I haven't even started yet!

I only use Amazon to buy my books. I don't a amazon visa, could that possibly be why I am not receiving the ponts? I use another visa instead.

message 294: by Coyote (new)

Coyote (vampire-bottom) Hi, my name is Gus and I'm a filthy book-a-holic. I'm a lifelong reader dedicating the rest of my measly existence to 18th/19th-century literary studies at whatever school is willing to fuel my addiction.
Aside from the obvious, I also enjoy MG and YA fiction, children's literature, and medieval romances; I'm always willing to expand my horizons, though.

Dylan (dylanmmg) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Dylan and I'm a book-a-holic. I collect anything bound, even the stuff I bind together. I <3 hardcovers for I can keep them on my bed (when I lose shelve space)without them getting bent up. I love buying books dirty cheap. It great when you can get a hardcover book for .25-2.00 so I keep my eyes open for book warehouses and book sales. I like to take all the annoying sales labels off my books when I buy them. I hate it when they don't come off =o.0=

Trisha Hi all, my name is Trisha and I'm a book-a-holic :-)
I think me and my library are on a first name basis and I'm not ashamed to say that I am helping to foster this addiction in our two little munchkins by letting them check out library books each week as well!

message 297: by Tamara (new)

Tamara (bookruckus) Hi, my name is Tamara and I'm a bookaholic. I work in a bookstore :)

I have a kobo ereader, so most of my books are now in epub format.... However; I still have a couple bookcases of my favorites (most in Hardcover), and any ARCs or good bargains I've found. I carry around a little notebook with a list of books that I want to read, and their publication dates. I've always loved reading, and always will.
