Sandra Pulliam (sandypllm) Hey all my name is Sandy and I am a book-a-holic!! Love this group what an awesome idea. My husband is always telling me I need to "go to a meeting" about my book disability;-) He actually dreads when I go into a book store because I spend no less than $50.00 each time. I don't like getting the books from the library because I like to keep my books and marvel at how many I have collected and read. I have about 10 books sitting on my night stand ready to be read but I refuse to start another book until I'm done with the one I'm currently reading. Considering I have 3 teenage boys the only time I have to read is before bed. Can't wait till school starts back up so I can catch up. So many great books coming out that I can't wait to read. "Mokinjay" by Suzanne Collins for one and "Clockwork Angles" by Casandra Clair, so excited! I look forward to chatting with you all.

Mounir | 5 comments HI, MY NAME IS Mounir AND I AM A BOOK-AHOLIC, and like many people here I have no intention of getting treatment ! I love books, love reading, love browsing library shelves and it is my daily habit to check the newspaper stand for any new books or magazines which may appeal to me. The house is becoming increasingly stuffed with books everywhere. My list of books i wish to read is always much bigger than those i have already finished. And i am also fond of re-reading books i had previously enjoyed. So i am always questioning myself, when will I stop buying books, and how can i read all those books in my lifetime ?

Stephanie (skiblue1737) Hello. My name is Steph and I am a book-aholic. I have an overflow of books at home, and I still go out and purchase more when I have the money. I absolutely love to read. I just recently joined this website, looking for an online community where I can share book reviews and recommendations. I'm very glad to be here.

Kristopher | 10 comments Hello,

My name is Kristopher and I'm a Book-aholic. I have a ridiculous back-log of books on my TBR pile, and still continue to get more in from Amazon.com and any used book store I happen to stumble across. I'm trying to tone it down a lot, as I will be leaving my job in a couple of months and going to school full time. Won't have as much time to read then! (I say that, but am currently working full time and taking 9 credits, and I still get in time to read every evening.) Anyhow, it's great to see some like-minded people on here.

Kristopher

Lisa Hi, my name is LIsa. I am addicted to Goodreads (a book-a-holic) and I have to quit joining these groups! I just find it so interesting to see what other people are reading! My TBR shelf is now out of control! I have "True Colors" on my bedside table with about 30 others waiting to be read. Maybe I can catch up!

Bert Edens (bedens) Hi, my name is Bert and I'm a Book-A-Holic...

**waits for the crowd to reply "Hi Bert!"** :)

Yeah, I'm an addict. One look at my over 3000 books in my Goodreads bookshelves will be evidence. I know I won't read all the ones in my To-Read list, but I love such a variety of books, I have to add them when I see them, or I'm afraid I won't ever remember them again.

Before I go to the library, I go to my To-Read list, set the order to Random, and print out about 10 pages. Then I will just go through the list and get what the library has. :)

My family doesn't understand my obsession. I have books with me everywhere I go. I have three at work, and so many at home I don't have enough shelves for them all. Whatever you do, if you drop me at a used book store, don't leave me with a credit card :)

Good to see so many other addicts! :)

Hi Shelli, I bought the Kindle about six months ago and I absolutely love it. I put all my books on it and it is so easy to handle. You can just bring it everywhere with you. When you finish a book you just start another book. It's great. I hope you love it as much as I do.

I have a feeling that when I get a Kindle (some day :), I will love the luxury of having a ton of books at my fingertips.

But I will never lose the love of the feel and smell of a paper book...

message 215: by Jessica (last edited Sep 09, 2010 10:59AM) (new)

Jessica Hi everybody!
My name is Jessica, I'm 25, living in Germany and I joined this group because I truly am a book-a-holic. I'm getting a monthly delivery of about 10 to 15 books and my appartment resembles a library. I am ALWAYS carrying a book in my handbag because you never know when there might be a great opportunity to read a few pages. I'm working a lot so it often happens that I spent a whole weekend just reading. I never go to bed without having at least read a few pages (like a few hundreds of pages actually) and I'm secretly dreaming of being locked up in a book store over night like kids are dreaming of spending a night in some toy store. All my friends think that I've got a serious problem so I agree with Marie. I'm happy to have found people who understand me. :-)

message 216: by Marcia (new)

Marcia Haskell (meb1938) Hi, I'm Marcia and definitely a bookaholic since I typically read a book every 2 days. Just finished Susan Mallerys 'Perfect' series and need advice.
I have these books waiting to be read and need to know which to read next:
Christine Dodd's 'Into the Shadows'
Debbie Macomber's '1022 Evergreen Place'
Louisa Edward's 'Just Oe Taste'
Stella Cameron's 'Out of Mind'
Susan Wiggs' 'The Firebrand'
Barry Eisler's 'Rainfall'
Sherryl Woods' 'Dragon Mender'
or Kat Martin's 'Bold Angel'

Suggestions Anyone?

It is so bad that my husband and I use to get in fights over the fact that I spent money on books that I never read. Do to other circumstances we are not together right now, but I can go to a used book store and spend $20 a week if I have that urge and if they don't get read right away then no one knows but me.

The Air Force? That sounds interesting! I'm always listening to AFN Eagel...

I actually am German :-) I joined goodreads because I'm solely reading English books and preferably ones written by US authors / with a story playing in the US.
Through goodreads I got my hands on a lot of good books in the last few months...the only problem is, that there's nobody to discuss these books with me as my friends aren't reading English books and very often the books I'm reading are not even published in Germany yet...

Richard (corruptedfortitude) | 6 comments Hello my name is Richard and I'm a Bookaholic. Everyday since I was young I usually wake up to a pile of either books I bought or books I checked out from the library each day. Every time I go to the bookstore its very hard to resist not buying a whole series sometimes. And since my mom works at the library she's usually annoyed when I check out a stack of books taller than me.

message 224: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) Hi Everybody, I'm Flora and I too am a book-a-holic. I also come from a line of book-a-holics--both my parents and my brother are book-a-holics and I seem to have passed the book-aholic gene onto my children as well. I can't ever remember not being a book addict.

I've been trying really hard lately to not buy so many books. My bank account keeps rebelling in these hard economic times. So instead I make regular trips to the library and I have lots of free books on my ereader. I really need to stop checking out books and catch up on what I have at home. So far that hasn't happened tho lol.

Welcome Flora!
Oh, I know the feeling. Currently I've got 20 books at home (which I have all bought) and I really have to force myself to read these first before I order new ones. It's just that I always need a widespread assortment of different books at hand.
I just can't bring myself to check out books from the library. Books are my trophies and I have to own them...I truly am an addict...

message 226: by Flora (new)

Flora Smith (bookwormflo) I understand what you mean about loving to own the books that I read. But I was running out of room and the bf was begining to complain and my bank account wasn't too happy either. Since there is no way I'm giving up reading I decided to compromise and buy fewer books and check more out from the library. I've also been getting books off bookswap here at goodreads. Plus getting books from the library and goodreads is more environmentally friendly so I'm doing my part :)

message 227: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Uh, tell me about the complaining boyfriend! It's the same here :)
I guess I'll have to give the library thing a chance sooner or later...

Emily (toofondofbooks_) Hello. My name is Emily and I am a book-a-holic. In the year 2010 alone i've read over thirty books averaging 3-5 books a month. i keep a list because i'm just that crazy. i want to get to fifty before the year is over. I have books stacked everywhere and i do not currently have a book shelf to put them on. I have them lining up the steps and on top of my dresser drawers...also there are books in every room besides just those places. I get annoyed if i don't have something to read, which doesn't happen often.

Hi Emily! Do you keep a book journal, or where do you keep the list of books you've read? I write the book titles on the calendar - on the day I've finished them. Then I keep the calendars (I had 5 or 6 years worth but got rid of them after posting what I'd read here)! I love the image of books piled up everywhere in your house! I hope you get a bookcase for Christmas so you don't trip on a lounging book as you're going up or down the stairs! :)

message 230: by N (new)

N Bonjour! My name is Susanna-Cole and I've been a book-a-holic from the age of three (or so my mother says) and can't remember a time in which I wasn't obsessed with reading and books.

I knew I had to join this group as soon as I saw the opening quote by Desiderius Erasmus, as I myself have always said the same. Food may nurture the body, but books nurture the soul, after all.

I write sometimes, and keep a blog where you can read some of my writing, if you like, http://girlmeetsnyc.blogspot.com.

More of my interests listed on my profile, perhaps, we'll have something in common besides being book-a-holics.

message 233: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Hello everyone. My name is Bethany and I'm a bookaholic. I enjoy buying them sometimes more than reading them. I love the smell of new books. I never need to be left alone with money in a book store. My two best friends are also avid book readers one is my roommate. At one point in time there was a book in every room house..even the bathroom. We have books everywhere. Both my roommate and I love to re-read books but recently I've been trying to read new ones. I have also decided, according to my pocket book, that buying second hand books also isnt bad although I prefer new ones.
A new second hand bookstore opened about an hour away from me near where my parents live and it happens to be on an exit on the way to my parents house. I have already made a pit stop there and planning on another for the thanksgiving holidays. The last time I was in there I bought 9 books....but only spent about $35. I was in book heaven. Now its been about a month and i'm almost finished will all of them and 2 more. I can't wait to go back. They buy back books too so I'm selling some that I have either read and didnt like or never planning on reading them.
I tend to like sci-fi/fantasy..I've been stuck on vampire supernatural books lately..and reading three series about that. Now i'm trying to branch out a little. (They are getting too predictable as far as the supernatural lore) So that's me.

Tyler Banks (capital_tea) | 7 comments My name is Tyler and I am a Book-a-Holic.

It all started reallyw when I was in college and one of the girls that I was seeing was into Manga... Next thing that happened was you rarely saw me without a comic in my fingers... and that just escalated when I got into the service... Now when you open my Rack I have to devote a good 3' X 4' section of my very very limited storage space to Graphic Novels; my christmas gift for myself was an E Reader... Man, that was a Great Gift right there! got a stack of a good 30 or so total books that I got to burn through... about 50 50 graphic novels to traditional horror/mystery/Pulp Fiction novels.
It does not help that I live on a seculuded Island in the middle of the alutian chain in the cold north... nothing like a hot coffee, a comfortable seat, a sweater blanket, and a good story to burrow into!

message 236: by Tyler Banks (new)

Tyler Banks (capital_tea) | 7 comments is it bad that I don't think about picking women up at a Bar or a gym, but I can't help but consider Comic Book Stores and Coffee houses with comfortable chairs and a lot of good coffee table books as fair game?

message 237: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello my name is Shay and I am a bookaholic! My personal library is in what we call the "creepy" room. We think its haunted so my hubby doesn't want his football card collection in there. Besides my dead tree editions I also own a Kindle and a Nook. Why? Good question. I am not a hoarder though. I donate a lot of books each year. If I am not reading I am writing, playing video games, painting or shopping for books. I was recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and have been on the hunt for good books on that subject.

I've recently received a kindle and I'm reluctant to read on it for fear I'll stop loving my lovely scented, thick, page filled volumes, but I've realized that it wasn't possible.I enjoy writing short stories and poems in my spare time.

I own too many books to read and still buy more. Found a gorgeous 24-hour book store and sometimes forget to go home. My family is usually not impressed during those times. Oh well.

I keep books in my handbag, my work desk, my bedside table and every other flat or stable surface I can find.

I am perfectly thrilled to have found a place where there are other people who understand this need and indeed obsession for books.
