I have been in love with reading as far back as I can remember, and while I get into a rut here and there of what I will and will not read, I always come back to the cheesy romance novels that so many people scoff! I like mostly fiction, because non fiction is too much like real life and I read to escape!

My name's Gina and I'm a book-a-holic. I don't just love reading books, I love sniffing them, holding them, and carrying large numbers around with me when I go out. There are books under my bed, in my wardrobe, under furniture, on top of furniture, and if I buy many more we'll have to move into the garage to give them room to grow. I have never been to Amazon and come away without buying something.
I am unrepentant though, and don't ever want to be cured. I might just need a bigger house.

I am Sarah and I am a bookaholic. I always carry a book in my bag and I don't go a day without reading something. I think about what I'm going to read next loads, more than alot of stuff i think about....

I don't buy them much anymore; instead I visit 3 different libraries routinely. I'm currently reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Also, I've been reading a lot of older books lately.

Last year I tried to leave this drug and nearly go crazy ... Im 23 years and most of my friends are not fond of reading so Im glad to find so many people who share this addiction. Greetings from México!

In my adult life, I suppose my love of books got drowned out by so many other things. =\ But now I am ready to remember my passion for reading and hopefully participate in some good discussions.
Take care all!

I always feel ashamed about my reading, normal people read about 2 books a month, I read about 4 books a week...other people read to relax, I read to cope with life.

Love Goodreads--and this group!

It's wonderful to find a site and group with so many like-minded people, who don't make me feel like I'm completely dull for loving books :)

Since I'm such a book lover, back in 2002 I started a book club in Philadelphia for individuals with the same addiction. Presently, we have 18 bookaholics!
I'm happy to see that I'm not alone. Happy Reading!

I read or listen to books everywhere. At one point I even had a bookcase in my bathroom. To me there is nothing more relaxing than a good soak in the tub with a good book in hand.
I live in a small mountain town without a library so I am forced into buying my books to support my habit. At this time my genre of choice is mystery/suspense books but I dabble in Southern Fiction and Art History from time to time.

..."
Auntie V, how do you read in the tub? Either you have some mad skill or I am somehow challenged. one time I took a book into the tub to read and i dropped it in. I spent the next hour trying to get the pages apart and blow dry them so I could finish it.

I'm 38 years old, married for a second time, have two adult sons (and two grandchildren) and one step-child at home. I also have three cats, two ferrets, and a dog. I worked in the computer industry for the past 14 years, but lost my job last April. I have a degree in Communications and hope to find something in that field, now that I'm free to pursue it.
But, despite all that, I read constantly. If I don't have a book in hand, then I am listening to one on my MP3 player. My husband has forbidden me to enter a bookstore again because I never leave a bookstore without spending over $100. My local library will actually call me if they haven't seen me in a couple of days...just to make sure I am ok.
Most of the time I feel very isolated because neither of my sons inherited my love of reading and I have yet to find anyone around me to share this interest.
On a side note, Kathryn, I read in the tub too. It's not that difficult. There are bathtub accessories that can assist you in the endeavor if you have a hard time keeping the book out of the water (i.e. bathtub pillows and trays).

Yes, it's sad.
Looking back, I can see that I was doomed from an early age: when I was nine my dream was to own all the Nancy Drew books then published, in matching yellow hardback, and have them all lined up in order on a shelf in my bedroom. In addition to reading them over and over I just wanted to be able to run my hand up and down the line of them.
Now that I've written it, that's actually kind of embarrassing to admit.

Fiction and sci fi/fantasy make up the bulk of my reading, but I will take on anything that sounds interesting, history, sociology, natural science, biography, memoir...
Nice to meet you.

Maybe you could consider your TBR list a goal. :)

I am Jasmine and I am 14, and a total book-a-holic. I am pretty young, but that doesn't mean I don't appriciate books as much as any adult. In my free time I somtimes browse B&N and amazon. It's annoying how much love reading because when I go on vacations I have to have at least 3 books minimum with me, even if I'm only leaving for a week. My mom gets really annoyed because I constantly buy books, instead of taking them out from the libray..I think I have an addiction to buying books...=D

I moved a few years ago and had 76 boxes of books, all packed by me. And that's after I had sold, donated or given away about 1/2 of my books. The movers weren't very happy but that's what they get paid for. :-)
Good luck with the move,
LJ

Happy Birthday, Jennifer!! You sound like me, I go to the library every chance I get and always come away with a stack of borrowed books as well as a stack I've bought from the used book shelves. I haunt my local used bookstores and love, love, love seeing my overflowing bookshelves. I am definitly a Book-a-holic too!

LOL- I thought I was the only one to read cereal boxes or ANYTHING all the time!!

Of course I come by it honestly. My mom is a big book a holic too (though she reads them just one at a time to my 3-6 at a time). My dad is a trivia hound and lovs history/religion/mythology and so on and so on. In fact my dad just published his first book several months back. SO I dont think there was a chance of my NOT being a book aholic.
I have infected my 16 yo son with the same illness and he is bad as I am in reading several books at once.
Right now am reading The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B. by Sandra Gulland, Second Touch by Bodie & Brock Thoene, LEt the Night Begin by Kathryn Smith and The Day Venus Exploded by Steve Preston (my daddys book).
I have bookselves in just about every room in the house and storage boxes under the bed and other spots where I can put them all of books.
I am so happy to be here with others like me.
Happy reading!!

I'm currently trying to finish up Diana Gabaldon's Outlander Series, I'm finally halfway through with book #5, The Fiery Cross then I'm off to read something from my growing shelf of books to read. Eenie, meenie, miny, moe....

Fortunately, my loving wife is totally understanding. She's a reader too, but not as obsessive as I am.
She bought me the tee-shirts that say, 'There's no such thing as too many books' and 'Too many books, too little time' or something like that since I put it on and can only read it backwards in the mirror.
She also bought me a lot of very large bookcases so I can NEATLY store my 1000 books (instead of piling them everywhere), of which, I am happy to say, I've only read about half since there are still so many great books to read.
I don't think WE have a problem. When I walk in peoples' homes and do not see a book, I think they're the ones with the problem.
Socrates didn't get it right. It's not that an unexamined life isn't worth living, it's more that an unread life isn't worth living.
My only regret in life is that I've already read Crime and Punishment, Jane Eyre, Madame Bovary etc. etc. so I could read them all for the first time again.

I can sit and read all day long or all night lol.. reading does not put me to sleep. I have friends that say they read a little before bed and it puts them to sleep. I have to make myself put the book down or I'm up all night. Does anyone else have that problem?
