January: New Year's Extravaganza
Well Sashana the prognosis for The Hollow and Blue is for Nightmares is not good. I'd skip putting them on your to read list, unless you totally run out of good stuff to read and those books happen to be there. Def don't spend money on them, borrow if you have to. Blue was better than Hollow, though proceed with caution. ;)
I'm going to get in on this I believe. I'm going for the Easy Level 1-4 books.Progress: 4/4 Finished: 01/25/11

1. New Author - Devoured by Darkness by Alexandra Ivy --Read 01/12
2. Old Author - Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs --01/02/11
3. On TBR List - The Darkest Pleasure by Gena Showalter --Read 01/25/11

I'll definitely avoid them, I don't think I'll have a shortage of books to read. Thanks for the heads up, Brandi.

Congrats, Shannon! Is this your first completed challenge?
I don't think I'm going to get four books done by the end of January so I decided to shrink it down to three for this challenge. I hope that's ok!
Thanks Namita, right now I'm working on my last book for this challenge and another book for another challenge.
This is the one I'm working on for this challenge.
And this is the one I'm reading for another challenge that one of my other groups is doing.I'm also reading five other books but none of them are for challenges.
Mostly romance, manga, and yaoi manga I also like YA novels but it's been a long while since I picked one up.Paranormal romance, contemporary, historical and m/m romance are what I've been reading for awhile. So what do you like?
New Year's Extravaganza ChallengeJanuary 1 - January 31, 2011
Difficult - Read 8+ books.
8/8 Done (+ 1!)
- Read an equal number of books from Old/Favorite authors and New/Never before read authors.
New:
Favorite:
- Read one or more books which celebrate the New Year.
- Read one or more books that have been on your TBR (To Be Read) list for a long time.
I like: manga(havent read much tbh..), Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, YA, (starting) Paranormal Romance, Historic War Stories,Thriller..anything really! Depends on the story to be honest..But, I tend to not like reading Non-Fiction too much- unless Im trying to find something out that I like. What Manga have you read? And, have u watched any Animes??
Oh Sailor Moon, Vampire Knight, Descendants of Darkness, Her Majesty's Dog. A little too many for me to remember all of em.
Kool- Ive read/watched Anima+, Naruto, OnePiece, Fruits Basket and Ive watched Vampire Knight too (well, a little bit. Im kind of banned atm..)!
I haven't watched Vampire Knight I didn't know it was an actual Anime, I've a little bit of Naruto kind of because my brother wanted me to, I don't think I've seen Fruits Basket either, loved the manga though.Have you ever heard of an Anime called Nightwalker:Midnight Detective? It's not a show but it is available on dvd.
Totally horning in on the conversation here. I heart Furuba (Fruits Basket), both the anime and the manga. I wish they'd finished the anime series after the manga series stared again. Only 1 series of anime makes me a sad panda. It's too bad about Takaya's accident. The quality of her art went downhill.
Gabrielle, I loved Nightwalker! That anime started my still-strong obsession with Buck-Tick and Gessekai has been on my top 10 song list for over a decade.
I have the Vampire Knight manga but I haven't read the recent books yet. I've also got the anime but I haven't watched them yet. Good series but it was getting confusing for me.
Throwing a few more favourites out there - Rurouni Kenshin, Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi no Ceres (manga only, the anime blew monkey balls), Mars, Anatolia Story/Red River, Bleach.

Horn away Sans! (that sounds really wrong!) Was really into Rurouni Kenshin, haven't read or seen Fushigi Yugi, and I only read one vol. of Ceres.
Mars was awesome although I think I might have to see if can find it again because it's been awhile since I've read it.
Trying to get another copy of both Nightwalker movies as soon as I can, loved em both!
To Gabrielle and Sans:Ive only read furuba(not watched it)- I love it too!! I havent finished it yet..Nope, havent come across the anime (Nightwalker:Midnight Detective), whats it about??
And waaa? Takaya had an accident?!O.O (sounded a bit wierd there xD)- and no probs on the hornin! (again, wierd..)
Ive heard of red river and Bleach, but im completley lost on the others- which would you recommend?
Have you seen OnePiece by the way? My friends introduced*coughForcedcough* me into it...its fairly good! and Getting better.
Yeah, Takaya was in a car accident or something and busted up her drawing arm. That's why the manga was on hiatus and why they made the anime, as a kind of filler to keep the fans warm. Once she got back on her feet, you could tell something happened to her. Her art just didn't feel the same.I read One Piece on and off when I was getting the ShounenJump magazines back in the day (I took Japanese for a couple years in high school/college and used the manga to practice) but it never really caught me. I tried the anime but didn't watch past the first episode. I think I still have the first season fansubs somewhere. I'll have to check it out again.
As far as recommendations go, it kinda depends on what you're in the mood for. If you want shoujo, go with Mars or Red River (Red River is a time travel romance so it tickles several of my buttons at once).
If you want shoujo with paranormal go with Ayashi no Ceres or Fushigi Yuugi (the original was really good, but I'm preferring the new series, Genbu Kaiden more) or Vampire Knight.
A great shounen historical action and drama is Rurouni Kenshin (I adored the anime until they skipped the revenge arc and did some OVAs of it instead - lame). Don't let the first several volumes put you off, the art gets loads better when the Kyoto arc starts. I still have a freaky crush on Saito.
If you're looking for straight up action, go with Bleach (though what the hell happened to Kubo's drawing style lately is beyond me. Looks like shit these days).
Damn, now I want to tear apart the garage and find all my old manga. Oh, some others that I read and enjoyed (all shoujo) were Kaikan Phrase, Card Captor Sakura and Tsubasa (I need to get back to this one, haven't read any of the new stuff). I'll post more if I can remember them!
Sounds good to me.As for Namita's question Nightwalker basically stars a Vampire named Shido who doesn't have very many memories as to whom he truly was before he was changed, he solves supernatural crimes with the help of a little fairy named Gunni, a female cop called Yayoi, and his female ward named Reho also a vampire.
It's pretty good I think you'd like it, unfortunately there's only two movies.
Hope I didn't tell ya too much don't want to spoil it before you decide whether or not you want to see it.
Yeah to the Anime/Manga thread- Thanks for the recommendations aswell! Yeah, OnePiece anime is kinda noncatching at first..you just have to bear with it a while- thats what some of my friends said, anyways. xD It gets better. Honest. And Aw to the crush on this Saito guy xD You know Furuba? sometimes, I wish the guys in my class/year were like that. Then I realise it'd probably get too complicated. x.x Do you two ever wish that??
And to Gabrielle(still lovin ur name lol xD but im happy with mine also...), It didnt spoil anything- Ill be sure to read the story!
Well, I was ambitious but in the end, only got three of the five I'd chosen for this challenge done. I'm in the middle of the fourth but we're well and truly into February now! (I read other books in January but they were for other challenges.)Watch on the Rhine/Lillian Hellman
The hasty heart/John Patrick
Dream girl/Elmer Rice
