Cast out of his family for being gay, Drew is a werewolf without a Pack. While traveling to his new home, he saves a strange, winged man who is being chased through the woods. He doesn't expect to fall in love. Half-fae, half-demon, Ciaran is an outcast among his people. When he's summoned to the human world, he doesn't know what to do. To him, Earth is complicated and scary, and he soon finds himself dealing with unexpected feelings for his rescuer. If they can find the courage to take a risk, two outsiders may find a home at last.
By day, I am a middle school teacher. I spend much of my time grading papers, filling out paperwork, and trying to get 6th- and 7th- graders to read.
When I am not at work, I can generally be found at the computer, dreaming up stories about men falling in love. When I have spare time (which is unfortunately not too often anymore!) I read romance of all kinds. Occasionally I pretend to do housework, but my hubby isn't fooled!
3.5* Really sweet story..about a werewolf out for a run and finding a demon being chased by the humans that summoned him. Sounds more complicated than it is...it really is a cute tale, Ciaran has been living in isolation and totally without any kind of love all of his life, he is in some ways very childlike, Drew had to leave after telling his family he's gay... These two lonely men found each other... I liked it a lot, it just lacked a little depth..but there are two more in this series...so I'm hopeful!
4.5 stars Drew is a werewolf, he has been shunned out by his family for being gay. One the way to family cabin, he stumbles into Ciaran, a "Bat-boy" (Drew description due to Ciaran's black wings and pointed ears). Ciaran turns out to be half-demon, summoned to the human world by people who ended up hurting him. Drew then takes him to his cabin and they start their life as roommate and friends -- though Drew also develops strong feeling for Ciaran.
If I have to sum up this story by one word, it will be "awwwwww". Yes, this story is sweet and tender. Ciaran is like an innocent kid, he only learns about human from books, and it's sweet to see him trying to understand this new world. Love reading his thoughts as well as Drew's view of him. It's cute to see that Ciaran learns about two men kissing from watching soap opera (I guess thank God, for soap opera, huh?).
It actually takes time for the story to grown -- so the kiss and the love making doesn't even appear until the end. But the journey to get to there is so worth it. I love it!
This is very simplistic, the writing seems geared to a younger audience. Cieran reads very childlike in nature and innocence which makes Drew's instant fantasising feel inappropriate and creepy.
Write a winged character but loose the wings almost immediately (though not to put the jacket on) seems an odd choice.
This was a cute read about a wolf shifter, Drew, who stumbles upon a half fae/half demon creature, Ciaran, that is running for his life after being summoned by strange men. After helping Ciaran run from the men, Drew takes him home and helps him get accustomed to an unknown world. During their time together, they both develop feelings for one another and live a rather domesticated life even though they are scared to share their feelings.
While not much happens within the story, I thought it was sweet. Ciaran is so innocent and naive when it comes to humans and such because he lives in another world, hidden away from all other creatures. He's damaged in a way that he thinks he's shameful and walks on eggshells so that he doesn't get thrown out of this new life he's created with Drew. Drew is nice in the way he takes Ciaran in without any hesitation. He helps build Ciaran's confidence and treats Ciaran like he's special. He lets Ciaran be free and make his own choices which goes a long way to bringing Ciaran out of his shell.
I'm glad this is a series, though. I felt like it was too short and didn't answer any of the questions I had from Ciaran's old life, how the men were able to summon him and even Drew's family. I'm hoping we get more information about all that and also what Ciaran and Drew's life will be like now that they are officially a couple.
Overall, the story was still cute. It's a simple, easy read and one I enjoyed very much. I liked that they were dancing around each other and how oblivious Ciaran was while Drew tried to hide his attraction. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
This was a very sweet & fluffy romance. 99% of the book is about the lead-up to their first 'night of passion' so don't expect heavy erotica from this one. I'm not sure if I will continue with the series because I didn't really become heavily invested in the characters. The story was too shallow to allow for that. If THIS book had included more about Drew & Ciaran's pasts instead of just glossing over the difficulties they had faced prior to meeting; more about how Ciaran was called into this world; and more about Ciaran's physical differences instead of neatly folding the wings away, never to be seen again; I might have found the effort of reading more worthwhile. It's sweet. It's undemanding. It's an easy HEA.
This was a really sweet story right from the get go. Drew, a werewolf on his way to a new home after a falling out with his father and pack, comes across Ciaran, a half-fae, half-demon, who is on the run from the group who summoned him. Ciaran is super sweet, really cute, and it is hard not to instantly love his character. Drew is big caring sweetheart, who takes Ciaran under his wing and helps him make a new life among the humans. As Drew helps Ciaran adjust to his surroundings, their relationship blossoms and they fall in love. Looking forward to the next installment in this cute series.
When lone wolf Drew finds himself in a situation where he has to help a young man, he does not hesitate – he thinks quick and moves just as quickly to get them both out of a rather sticky situation. When the dust settles Drew finds on his hand a man unlike any he has ever seen before, any he has ever heard of before but not one he intends to leave on his own to the nefarious intend of others.
Ciaran is that young man - from another place and time he takes baby steps to trust, but he has to take a chance and trust someone and Drew is that person because he is the first one to really reach out and touch him on a whole other level.
With a whole lot of things to adjust to and new feelings to deal with both men makes the best of their situation – but new emotions finds than questioning how important each is to the other.
Every time I come back to Ms Gold work I slap myself for not making a decent go and get through her backlist. I love her fun style and sweet characters and SAVING CIARAN is no different.
The two main protags are good together and after reading this first book I’ll just say it was really an introduction book to the Outcast series and as such it was info about both parties lifestyle, background and experience and where they are today.
The setting is not over elaborate and the language and scenes are quick paragraphs that make me want to just read on.
While there is time passing in terms of being together, there is insta love in this book which was not a problem for me as there are two other book in the series so far with the same characters, and I am hoping for more time to develop on their relationship. There is also some mystery and even some clock and dagger stuff to ensure that the second book is already on my e-reader.
If you are looking for a quick paranormal read that just hits the spot without reinventing the whole paranormal genre – this is it. Fans of Ms. Gold’s work, you will love it.
Drew is a werewolf without a pack. Since coming out to his family he’s had to make his way on his own. One night after a run, he encounters a supernatural creature running from something or someone in the woods. Unable to abandon the innocent, hurt man, he takes in the mysterious Bat-boy. Ciaran’s been shunned his whole life for being a half-demon in his home world of Faerie. Abandoned by his mother and raised by a negligent grandfather, he’s never had so much as a friend. When he’s summoned by humans for purposes he knows won’t lead to anything good, he manages to get away and is saved by Drew.
Drew is a man who has had to keep who he is locked up for a long time, so giving into his feelings for Ciaran is hard. Not only does he believe that Ciaran is straight and won’t reciprocate his feelings, but he also doesn’t want to pressure him into thinking he doesn’t have a choice in the matter since Ciaran has nowhere else to go. As a result, he holds out for a long time and it takes him and Ciaran a great part of the book to get together.
Ciaran has grown up surrounded by books and little else. He’s never found acceptance before, so as unused as he is to experiencing love, it takes him a while to realise what his feelings for Drew are. I loved Ciaran. He’s more than a head of curly, black hair and big violet eyes, he’s brave and smart and his wonder at his new home and everything he encountered made him an easily lovable character.
This story was short and sweet and I’m so glad I got all three books in the Outcasts series at the same time so I won’t have to wait and wonder what happens next.
This was sweet, but I was kind of hoping for more...action (not THAT kind of action-the fighting kind)? What ever happened to the summoners? I was left wanting more. HOWEVER, I just saw this is a series so maybe I will get my answers in the following books?
What I didn't like? When Ciaran was referred to as "demon". For me, that rubbed me wrong like he was still being judged by that half of him.
I'll be jumping into the 2nd of this series now :)
This book was way too short to be rated more than 3.5 stars. The plot went too fast and there isn't much story, but I tried to ignore it in my rating since there are 2 more books in the series. All starts with Ciaran being summoned in the humans world and almost getting raped by the men who want to enslave him. He fights and is able to escape, and while running in the woods he meets Drew. Andrew or how all call him, Drew, is relaxing in the woods after one of his worst days. He told his family he was gay and he was disowned by his father, then the older man had decided to attack him. They had fought in their wolf's form, yes Drew is also a werewolf, and the younger man had won. In the end Drew had decided to leave his family and now at 28 years old of age he is alone and searching for a new home. Or to better say he is trying to reach the cabin his aunt left him in her inheritance. While walking into the woods he wasn't expecting to meet the most beautiful man he has ever seen. He wants to protect the man and care for him, and he knows this will come back and bite him in the ass, when Ciaran will not need anymore his help and will start his life with someone else.
In the weeks they spend together, Drew teaches Ciaran about humans and their culture and they start to fall in love. Bcs yes also if Drew doesn't know, and our half fae-half demon, never had any kind of relationship, they both feel the same.
Ciaran can't understand this feeling he has for Drew, being a child born from a rape and an experiment, and being half demon, he was hidden by his noble grandfather all his life and his mother never wanted to see him. He missed affection, friendship and love, but he is finding all of this with Drew. He knows that he wants to be with the other man, but he is scared of losing the only friend he ever had, and he is too shy to act on his feelings, the only way he finds to express himself is writing a song for him.
Drew is sure that the song isn't for him, and his heart bleeds a bit when he thinks that Ciaran maybe is using the song to tell him that they should only stay friends.
Later that night, when they meet back home, he finds out how wrong he was.
They kiss and from that moment they become a couple.
I liked how the sex in this book happened only after the love confession and weeks after the MCs had started living together and started knowing each other. Drew takes care of Ciaran, he knows that all of this, even a kiss, is new for the younger man, and everytime he does something he asks the fae if he wants it. Let's say that Ciaran may have been a virgin, but he wasnt shy in taking what he wanted... ;P
This book ends like this with them becoming a couple, and if I liked them together, I still missed the actual plot. Nothing more is said about the men who tried to rape Ciaran after summoning him or about Drew's family. We don't know why these men summoned Ciaran, if someone is searching for him, why his grandfather had forbidden anyone from touching his grandson, or why someone was making half fae-half demon babies.....
A lot of questions that don't find an answer and made me drop a little the rating....
1 of the 1st M&M Series that I read during my Sophomore Year. It was an amazing story. The Books in this Series is short to read, I remember finishing all the 3 books in a month. The story is fast paced and has a lot of "Love Scenes". It was brilliant (for me atleast during that moment) to showcase a Tender Love Story between two Outcasts.
The novella is quite nice, a mix of western yaoi and romance, even if the yaoi component is not so strong to maybe discourage the M/M readers who are not fan of that type of novels.
Drew is a renegade werewolf, he was kicked out of his pack at 28 years old when he finally decided to come out from the closet. Drew is not an old fashioned shapeshifter, he is an website developer and so he has no problem at all to pack his things and move to an isolated cabin near a small town. And so he jumps on his bike and heads toward a new life. On the trail, he stops to do a "change" stop, means that he needs to shift, and he stumbles upon a strange creature, a young boy with silverly skin and two little black wings like a bat. The boy is frightened and shocked, and Drew decides to help him: astride Drew's bike, with Drew's leather jacket covering the bat-boy's wings, they ride toward the sunset.
Ciaran is an half-fairy half-demon who was summoned on earth. Till that moment he lived a secluded life on Fairy Land, his grandfather raised him only since he had not the courage to kill him as an infant. Ciaran's mother, a fairy, was kidnapped by a demon, and Ciaran is the result of that dramatic event. He is a shame for his fairy relatives, and when he is summoned on earth, the men who did it wanted to treat him like a slave. So Ciaran is quite skittish, and when he meets Drew he is all big black eyes blurry and frightened.
Drew and Ciaran start a cohabitation in Drew's little cabin that is almost a marriage: Drew works at home to gain the bread, and Ciaran cooks and cleans, and during his free time, rides a bicycle up and down the hill (see where I see a bit of yaoi influence, other than in the big black eyes?). Even if Drew is gay and attracted by Ciaran, he doesn't do nothing to frighten more the boy, and Ciaran, not used to human or fairy contact, his totally unaware that there can be more between two men than sharing house and meal... at least till the moment he doesn't see a soap opera on television and he starts to wonder.
All in all the novella is a sweet romance, with barely a kiss and something more at the very end of the book. But it's nice and tender, and I like the hybrid that is Ciaran, even if the demon's side of him shows only in his wings, there is nothing of demoniac in him other than that.
Cute, light-hearted, and sweet ... those are the perfect words to describe Cassandra Gold's "Saving Ciaran." There are hints to darker treatments in the past on Ciaran's side [he was an outcast among his own people and locked away in his grandfather's home since birth, no contact, no friends:], but it is made clearly as past-tense.
Drew, the werewolf, and Ciaran, the Unseelie/demon hybrid, make an adorable couple that borders on being too sweet/angsty but not enough to make it a bad read. I wish I could come up with another way to describe this short novella, but the only word that consistantly comes to mind is "sweet" and "cute," so I guess I'll just leave it at that.
Definitely one I will read again, when I yearn for something short and light-hearted to balance out some of the more serious reads I enjoy.
Cast out of his family for being gay, Drew is traveling to his new home (a cabin left to him by his aunt), when he comes across a "bat-boy" who is fleeing a summoning.
Ciaran is also an outcast because of his half-demon blood. He has grown up hidden away by his grandfather without friends or kind words. When he is pulled into the mortal realm, he is lost and confused.
I thought this was such a cute short story. The author managed to pack a lot into this little story in my opinion. I liked both the characters and the fact that two outcasts found each other and created their own family was really sweet. I also appreciated that while the story was really short, the author did not rely on insta-love.
Sweet, short story with paranormal elements that add an interesting twist to the romance. I liked both Drew and Ciaran. I especially liked Ciaran with his vulnerability, sweetness and beautiful violet eyes. I will definitely read the sequels.
Really sweet story, I just wish it was longer, after getting to know the characters and when they found to each other the story ends and all the issues are left unaswered.
