For me, I still believe in God when I'm hurting. I just have a harder time listening to him.

message 252: by [deleted user] (new)

What I don't understand is how people can praise God for miracles and then say it's "free will" when bad things like war and famine and crap happens in the world. It's just very meh to me.

Because God is the creator of all GOOD things. God doesn't do bad things. The devil does. So, when people do bad things to other people it is them allowing the devil to tempt them and they use their free will to perform said "evil" acts.

Laura | 911 comments God helped people win wars, though....which meant killing a lot of people in the process. :/

message 256: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments He helped the righteous win wars, when the wicked gave the righteous no other choice but to fight, if I do recall.

What about the wars in which there's no clear 'wicked' or 'righteous' side?

(Which in my opinion is basically all of them...but that's kinda beside the point.)

message 260: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments Which wars are you talking about?

message 261: by Acacia (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) I wasn't thinking of any war in particular. Just giving a hypothetical scenario.

message 262: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments God doesn't aid anyone in wars, that I know of, unless it's for a "righteous" cause? I'll have to look into it because I don't know if that's completely right, but as far as I'm aware, war is caused by man, not by God, and the only time He's ever aided a side is when the righteous have been forced into war by the wicked.

message 263: by Acacia (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) Ahhh. I get what you're saying now. Okay. :)

So hildren in Africa are starving because they let gave in to the devil, and the tsunami in Japan was because the Japanese were being wicked. I get it.

message 265: by Acacia (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) I don't think that's what Jayda meant; she said when people do bad things it's because they gave into the devil. When bad things happen to people as a result of things beyond their control (and correct me if I'm wrong), it's because the devil is a jerk.

message 266: by [deleted user] (new)

*nods* I know, I was just saying that horrible things happen to people go never really deserved it. If the devil can go around and mess up innocent peoples lives why doesn't god do something about it?

I'm going to stop commenting because I know none of us are going to move on the topic. Plus, I'm in a bad mood already and I don't want to snap at you guys. Sorry for my b****iness :)

Nooooo.

Look, life isn't fair. People die. Good people get sick. Trials happen. And yes, God is the one who allows that, but you can't have good without the bad. You wouldn't know what joy was, if you didn't know what the opposite, sadness, was.

God gives people trials to expand their faith, and in the end, it usually helps people grow stronger. We may not understand it all, but God does what He does for a reason. It's never an accident.

In the Bible, there are numerous examples of trials and people growing through them, and the other way, separating from God. Job, Esther.... They are all good people who don't deserve any of it, but God tests their faith, and look what happened? They got blessed.

Well, what I was taught is that God doesn't make it happen or choose too do it. He didn't want evil to come into the world, but he gave Adam and Eve free choice and they chose to let sin exist. In that case, the Devil can do whatever he wants, although God is superior over him. Now, I'm not a bible scholar or whatnot, so don't have an argument with me on "Why doesn't God kill the Devil" yadda yadda yadda, but what I think about the Devil's existance is that through those hard times, people need something to fall back on. In those cases, God is the best way to go. I have seen so many religious people just praising him because something terrible happened to them.

In my opinion, people blaming God aren't very Christian-ly. I do not believe that I have ever blamed him for hardship because of what I stated above. If bad things are happening in your life, why do you blame the person that could make it all better? Why blame a great refuge?

I'm not saying that the people who react that way are right, mind you. I think it's just the way a lot of people think … people who aren't "Christian-ly", as you put it. ;)

It is sick.
People my age (12) wear 'booty shorts' and push up bras like there's no tomorrow.
First off, boys my age shouldn't exactly be attracted to a girl because of those... assets.
Second of all, girls who wear 'sexy' outfits just look ridiculous and like *insert inappropriate word(s) here*.

Buying cheap, oftentimes used stuff.

Yeah, I go shopping to try and find something since I need clothes, but I don't like shopping overall.

I know.
Wow. *shakes head*
Honestly, I don't know about that. It's natural to be attracted to that, because they are human and it's...instinct? Nature? Hormonal? But girls need to be modest about it.
Exactly. People should be respectful to themselves and their body.

Shreya=Drastically Random. Find the emoticon. | 1078 comments I don't mind shopping once in a while, but when I shop for stuff I really don't need, then that starts to get boring.
And I hate stuff that's supposed to make you look "sexy". That's such a stupid term. The only person who should decide if you look good or not is YOU, not the opposite gender, not stereotypes, not...yeah.
Okay...that sounded weird.

Yeah.
I KNOW. Meaning, that I think that whatever the person looks good in and is appropriate and comfortable, they should wear. To wear low cut shirts (talking to ladies) because it's the "style" and "in" just isn't even comfortable, plus, what does that tell about you?
No, I agree with you.
Amen!

HECK YESSSS. I went thrift shopping the other day and got a ton of clothing for less than $60. It was awesome. :)

And gosh, that stuff makes me super depressed ... parents making their kids "sexy" that is. Uggghh. *Shudders" Makes me think of those creepy little-kid beauty pageants. O_O

Ugh, I knowwww. I'm never ever going to put my kid (daughter, if I have one eventually) in a little Toddler Tiara type thing. So stupid and just terrible.

YES.

Bleh, I wouldn't consider it for a second. It's child abuse, if you ask me––the way they're dressing their kids in skanky clothes and pressuring them to be perfect. It's just plain disgusting.

=D Congrats!

Ugh, legal child abuse. I mean, really. It could have drastic consequences in the future of their daughters. Teaching them to dress like prostitutes and sluts (sorry people, but it's the truth) could create either arrogant full of themselves OR self esteem issues, which could lead to other bad stuff, drugs or teen pregnancy.

Shreya=Drastically Random. Find the emoticon. | 1078 comments AAAAH THAT REMINDS ME OF SOMETHING. I watched this episode of Toddlers in Tiaras. It showed a 6 year old getting ready for the pageant thingie. She was asking her mom for something, and she went, "Mommy, can I have some.." and then a beep replaced the last word. However, then her mom said, "Sure," and gave her a can of RED BULL! RED BULL! A SIX YEAR OLD DRINKING RED BULL!!!!!

No no no. Bleehhh Shirley Temple. Jk, Shirley Temple movies are all right. They're just ... all the same. And very corny.

Little Miss Sunshine is this movie about this little girl who's in one of those beauty pageants––but she's, you know, normal. So she doesn't really fit in. And she and her highly dysfunctional family take an epic road trip to get to the pageant and a bunch of crazy things happen, and it's totally hilarious.
