Stand alone/ out of order series?

I'm pretty much solely reliant on my library for my PNR, which has incomplete collections of series, and they aren't always available in order (I'm still waiting on a couple titles from the middle of the Immortals After Dark and Lords of the Underworld series, and no way could I hold off the rest of the books until they came in!). So I'm hoping for some recommendations of paranormal romance whose books pretty much stand alone. Like, the Black Dagger Brotherhood doesn't really work out of order, but I've felt that for the most part, the Dark-Hunter series could be read out of order so long as you stay relatively close to where you're at in the series (say, within 5 books - going from Fantasy Lover to Acheron would be confusing!). I think IAD and Lords stand alone pretty ok too. Any other series that can be read randomly? :)

Hmmmm. Off the top of my head, there's:

*Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series. There's ongoing plot lines but each book is basically about a different hero & heroine.


*Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series is pretty much stand alone until you get to book 4.


*Lynn Viehl's Darkyn series. Again, there are ongoing plot lines but I read most of this series out of order & had no trouble following along.

You can probably read Jayne Castle's Harmony series in random order. It starts with which sets up the Ghost Hunters' world, but there's enough background info in each book to make sense of the world.




There's also the new series by Zoe Archer. I've read the first two that are out and really enjoyed them, and I read them in reverse order.

Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series can be read as individual books or out of order. The series starts with . You get more if you read them all in order, but you don't lose much if you don't.

Jayne Ann Krentz A.K.A. Amanda Quick has a series she writes under both names that can be read like Armstrong's.


Mercedes Lackey has two series that can also be read out of order: The Five Hundred Kingdoms starts with and The Elemental Masters starts with

Rebecca York has a series "The Moon Series" that can be read out of order. They are werewolf love/murder/mystery tales. They have a couple cross over characters, but each book is completely stand alone. Basically each main wolf in each book is related to the main wolf from one of the other books. There are references to the relatives and sometimes they show up in the books but you don't miss anything or need to know anything from any of the other books. I personally loved all of the ones I have read so far...

What about Christine Warren's The Others series? Wolf At the Door is the first, but really, they don't have to be read in order (and there are a TON of them out--well, 11 or so at any rate.) :oP
