Shannon (frencett) | 96 comments Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy, #6) by Richelle Mead

Finished Last Sacrifice today 15/1.

Rate it 3.5 stars

This is the final book in the Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead.

The story follows on from the cliff-hanger ending left in book 5 where Rose has been imprisoned, accused of Murder.

Although this final book was beautifully written as usual, Rose grated on me a bit and I'm not a fan for predictable endings - hence my 3.5 stars.

There wasn't the normal intensity and turmoil as found in previous books, however it still was captivating enough for me to read it straight through.

It's actually 1 of my favorites... but then again, I like almost everything Richelle Mead does (all 3 series)

I actually also just finished Last Sacrifice and gave it a full 5 stars... I agree that it wasn't quite as intense as some of the other books, but it was good enough to keep me up until all hours of the night (or should I say morning?) to finish, hence the 5. :)

NOTE: This shelf is a doozy! It holds 100,000 books. Remember: Instead of flipping through every page of the shelf listing to find a book, you can check your books for the shelf. This thread explains how to do that search, if you need help, just holler. :)

Happy Reading, Everyone!!

I did enjoy the VA series - I'm not sure if I'm ruined for all because I have discovered Night Huntress, Guild Hunter, Mercedes Thompson etc :) I just felt this book was kinda rushed. It was ok - just not as good as some of it's pre-decessors.

The series over all is good - it is YA.... so no hot and heavy stuff, and definitely some school yard themed stuff - but still worth a read.

Guess it just depends on what works best for you. Don't forget about Judithe's "Challenge Addicts 'R Us" challenge. That's a great way to track them as well.

message 377: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, Shannon, have a look at the Member List threads at the bottom, just above events and members. Various members list their challenges, probably a couple of different ways so you can have a look and see which way appeals to you.

Also a good way to keep track is to join Challenge Addicts' R Us!

Ditto what Steph said! Now, I mostly use a private site I opened up here on GR...it's a convenient way to track challenges and other stuff I do here. I started my challenge tracking with a list on a member's list section, and just having a post for each challenge in one place makes it a lot easier!

And of course, our own Challenge Addicts' R Us is a great place to track them...and find more to join!

Judithe | 6566 comments Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid, #3) by Richelle Mead by Richelle Mead1/17/11 4*

Oh...what to say without spoiling it! He's a wanker. If you've read it, you know, if you haven't...READ IT! I could barely put it down, though I did want to throw it across the room a couple of times because I thought "DON'T DO THAT, STUPID!" But, I had to see what happens next.

So, Georgiana's life is complicated as ever and she deals with it quite well most of the time. I laughed and wanted to cry as I was reading it. As soon as I finished, I IMMEDIATELY dug out the next one, and am still reading...and he's still a wanker! Though I do have a smidge of empathy...just a smidge!

message 388: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! I haven't read it, but LOVE the line "he's a wanker". I need to eventually try to return to this series. I stopped 1/2 through book 2. Just couldn't get into it, but we were moving from AU-JP at the time and I had a few other things on my mind. :)

message 389: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Just a few! LOL...read it. I'm really enjoying this series...can't slow down on Succubus Heat at the moment....I HAD to read it immediately! You will undoubtedly agree with that line...SO READ IT! no pressure...no pressure!

message 390: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! no pressure at all. :) I'll get back to it eventually, promise.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments I will be reading The Man With the Golden Torc (Secret Histories, #1) by Simon R. Green

for the wishlist shelf, since I started it yesterday and thanks to Steph's handy dandy shortcut, I found out 8 people have it on the wishlist shelf.

message 392: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments That looks really interesting! Just added it to TBR...and am eagerly waiting to hear what you think of it!

message 393: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Diane, I'm looking forward to your review too. Hubby & I have read most of his Nightside (1-9) and really enjoy it. Although the most recent stories are beginning to feel a bit cookie-cutter for me, I'm still continuing the series though. I've had that one for a while and haven't gotten to it yet. Wondering how it'll compare to NS.

message 394: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments Well, I just finished The Man With the Golden Torc tonight (1/19/11) and gave it 4 stars.

My review:
Wow, that was a thrill ride. This book is almost non-stop action taking place over only a couple of days. I always wondered how the people survived intense times like that. I think I'd need about a 6 month vacation to recover.

What I enjoyed:
* Eddie/Shaman is a great lead character. He is the rebel of the family (whose mission is to protect the world) and has his own sense of justice and a good sense of humor.
* Molly is awesome. She can hold her own and is delightfully wicked without being evil. I love that she and Eddie had tried to kill each other multiple times in the past.
* The characters in general, from the Drood family to friends to enemies.
* The Drood defenses and legends. Very cool.
* The secret. Wow, I wasn't expecting that.

What could have been better:
* Some of the characters seem really similar to ones in Green's Nightside series.
* The ending was a bit too tied up in a bow perfect...
* A couple inconsistencies with the characters

I've only read the first 5 Nightside books so far. Some of the characters seem to be recreated (Razor Eddie? comes to mind as one). But otherwise it is a distinct world set in London where most people don't know about the supernatural. Since you like The Nightside series, I'm pretty sure you'll really like this one as well.

Shannon (frencett) | 96 comments Bone Crossed (Mercedes Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs

Finished Bone Crossed 19/01

Rating - 4.5 stars

I am a full supporter of the Mercy Thompson fan club! I love how tough and honest her character is. It draws me in and keeps me enthralled.

Bone Crossed sees more vampire trouble for Mercy! She has barely recovered from her fae encounter when she starts having trouble with the head of the local seethe.

The action in this book had me hooked from the start, my only tiny complaint was final climax was over and done with too quickly. I was reading it at midnight, and wanting more.

Please mr postman...bring me 'Silver Borne' asap :)

message 399: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! Hope he gets there soon with the next one. I love that series too. Glad you're enjoying it. :)

message 400: by Miss (new)

Miss | 259 comments Great reviews everyone, I'm considering trying new authors, lol, like Simon R. Green.
Yesterday, 01/19 I finished Last Sacrifice and I must say I agree with Shannon on this one, gave it only 3 stars, reading it felt like expecting a feast and getting cold porridge (bland and hard to digest, lol).
My review:
Wouldn't have thought that Richelle Mead could ever disappoint but she did with this book. It couldn't hold my interest. There was action but it didn't suck me in and Rose was really annoying. The revelation of who did it left me cold and the happily ever after was just bleh. I felt this book lacked emotion and soul. I hope the author doesn't bungle up Georgina's happy ending as well, i love that series!
