O1 Books Read

Why did I put off reading this when it finally arrived? Perhaps because of the long wait until I can get my hands on the last volume (I might actually break down and buy the hardback...) I should have re-read the last pages at least of Faefever as I'd forgotten some crucial things about Halloween. I was annoyed by Dani at first, but was quickly sucked into the story again...and loved it (obviously from the 5 stars). I like the various levels of this world, and the characters fascinate and surprise me. I enjoy seeing how they develop. I also can't believe the cliffhanger ending of this! AGHH! Most definitely looking forward to Shadowfever!

Those are some serious cliffhangers. Last I heard, Shadowfever is due out in Jan, I believe.

This book has both good and bad parts, but is overall a fascinating introduction to the trilogy, and sets the stage for the next two books. The worldbuilding is not very elaborate or detailed and while this makes for a fast, easy read, it is also confusing at times. For example, I only realised the action takes place on the Moon after another reviewer pointed it out, it read like a fantasy world to me at the beginning. The premise of the story is original and imaginative, but the writing style is pure YA, and thus a bit simplistic, with unformed and unilateral characters. This is Aeriel's coming of age story and she does grow, in stature and beauty, she becomes more selfassured, but, infuriatingly, she is very oblivious and sometimes downright dumb. I liked that the story was not centred on romance, although there is a promise of it..., it made the whole book feel cleaner, fresher, retaining it's childish wonder. I think it would have been a great book to have read in my teens.

This was a disappointing entry in the series. I never felt much of a connection to Decker or Dani. I also didn't understand the time they spent on their relationship when they were searching for Dani's sister. You would think she would be a little more worried about her. The villain is kind of sad and the ending isn't very satisfying. "

Thanks. I'm not at my normal computer...yeah, that's the reason...nothing to do with my mind...

Succubus Heat is the fourth instalment in the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead.
This edition see’s Georgina sulking from a big break-up, and being out-sourced to Vancouver to assist the local Arch Demon in controlling the local dark group ‘Army of Darkness’.
When her home town Arch Demon, Jerome, mysteriously disappears she loses her life draining ways – and can live almost like a mortal until Jerome is found or someone takes his place. The investigating of Jerome is of course left up to Georgina.
I have to say I’m a massive fan of this series. I love Georgina’s lust for life (pardon the pun) – but I was so frustrated at her exploits while trying to find Jerome. I mean sure – take advantage of your stasis – but you don’t screw over people you love for a brief interlude....yeah - my hang-up – sorry for any offence caused! I was just disappointed and frustrated during that part.
Slight spoiler....I am glad to see Roman back. Ok – he may’ve been a bit evil and crazy in book 1 – but he’s kinda hot. Can’t wait to read book 5 just to see what happens to him. While I’m talking about the hot guys - I have to say I heart Carter – why can’t he have a raunchy spin off – similar to what Jeaniene Frost did for Spade and Mencheres.
Overall – an awesome book. I still love Georgina – and still will rush out to read the next editions as the come out.

Got to say - I'm a bit in the grey zone with Maddie - don't particularly like her, but don't hate her either. She's just there... And I agree - how can she have no idea at all - but then maybe she just is wrapped up in 'new love' and all that. I've been cheated on - and was clueless. I think sometimes its easy to fool yourself and ignore the obvious when you're in situations like that. So in that way, I can understand her not bringing it up.
Judith - keep going :) - its a great series. I'm still wishing Carter will get more airtime - and Roman is definitely on my radar in book 5.

City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare ****/5 finished 11/26/10
This book was pretty good, although I did prefer City of Bones more... I don't want to spoil that book for anyone who hasn't read it, but a relationship issue going on between 2 of the characters in this book squicks me out a bit, which might be why I prefer the 1st. That said, I'm looking forward to reading City of Glass soon.
